Seems like pretty much obvious choices until the superhero section.

Some Notable Entries:

>Oh Joy Sex Toy
>Black Panther
>Watchmen
>Calvin & Hobbes

Would be a good list if they take out all the garbage genre faggotry.

>no One More Day
list discarded

>until the superhero section.
And you didn't raise am objection Image shit that's just as worthless?

Maybe, but they feel so standard. Like Walking Dead is a massive series, but it's garbage.

But The Vision, Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl and a very recent Black Panther? That just feels like they googled Marvel comics and picked out what was going on right now.

>Watchmen
>Graphic novel
It's a TPB, for Christ's sake. As are most other titles listed under that section. Fucking hipsters.

The current Black Panther run is wretched. How the fuck is this on a list of the best 100 comics and not Lee and Kirby's FF?

>But The Vision, Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl and a very recent Black Panther? That just feels like they googled Marvel comics and picked out what was going on right now.
They did literally that for Image with dogshit like Monstress, Wicked Divine and Bitch Planet.

>One Piece but no Dragon Ball

Yeah nah

Do I even have to read it to know that it's going to be shit and piss me off?

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is listed

>Pluto was from the Villian's POV

I suppose even basic research was too much to ask.

>weebshit
>recent shit
>and a litte inbetween
Christ, how incredibly horrifying.

>One Piece yet no Bleach
Yeah, nah my dude.

I was surprised to see capeshit on this list.

>The Walking Dead
>No Mort Cinder
Fuck off.

Jesus the colored pencil one in the webcomic section was shilling her comic for this when the survey was sent out. That's how I heard about the survery. I ended up reading it and there's mostly scenery porn in that thing. Just fucking pages and pages of nothing but trees and shit posted one at a time as an update. And every fucking character is LGBT despite being at a jesus camp.

I think maybe one comic I listed got on there.

My favourite part is that some of the panelists either wrote, or produce some of the comics on the list.

npr.org/2017/07/11/536452412/summer-comics-poll-meet-our-expert-panelists

It's a really ecliptic list, and the cape sections just sucks, but they state is just a list personal favorite and not an attempt to create a semi objective best list so i can give a pass.

Is 1001 Comics to Read Before You Die still the go to list?

Instantly too confused by calling Megahex and Blacksad GNs and not series. Also no superhero comic from the past 27 years deserves to be in a top 100. Not even a top 100 list of superheroes.

In for NPR's defense, they did make a open vote for this list and well, this is what people voted for

I still feel slightly disappointed in the list thought most of it is just the stuff you first read then drop to read better things

Honestly not that bad. Except Squirrel Girl. A lot of good stuff for most of the categories.

>Is 1001 Comics to Read Before You Die
>Gets curious and search for the list
>First page has The Art of Flying, and A Taste of Chlorine
Okay, i like this list already.

Did you anons know that Moz's Doom Patrol is a Graphic Novel but Dark Knight Returns isn't?

>no jojo

Jojo is hot garbage and has always been hot garbage.

Just because it's the only manga you know about doesn't make it good. Just because you like it doesn't make it good, either.

Why don't you try reading a real manga, like Dungeon Meshi, before you start claiming old shounenshit is the best thing ever.

>muh elf waifu

It's a NPR reader's poll, so of course the NPR base is going to have boring sensibilities and taste. I will say though, do people go to these types of lists just to see if stuff they like or dislike is on them? Because most times I just use them to see if there's new stuff I haven't heard of or read yet. I tend to not give a shit if something I like is on some list or not.

>Dungeon Meshi
It's a fun series, but no better than Jojo.

Eh, it's all the series you'd come to expect from a list that uses "graphic novel" instead of comics.

It's better in every way.
Jojo is just a retarded trainwreck that somehow works.

where's corto maltese?

Pretty shit but I give them props for including Mary Perkins On Stage. Truly one of the last great newspaper comics and represents the format at the height of its potential, but gets no credit because it's a "romance comic".

>weebshit
Yeah they should've filled all 100 slots with faggy American autobiographies and capeshit runs nobody cares about.
I mean let's get real, if you wanted to make a top 100 of the best comics ever and included ZERO from Japan, you need to get your fuckin head checked

Reply to this post with something that was left off the list so they could include FIFTEEN FUCKING WEBCOMICS

I'll start: Kirby's F4

>fucking Homestuck

THIS LIST DOES NOT INCLUDE ONE JACK KIRBY COMIC

THIS LIST DOES NOT INCLUDE ONE JACK KIRBY COMIC

THIS LIST DOES NOT INCLUDE ONE JACK KIRBY COMIC

Ditko's Spider-Man

I love Mort Cinder, but has it even been translated?

> that banner art

why. seriously what is the reason for the enduring appeal of this artstyle.

...

The whole thing should be manga :^)

>no sin city
>no noire of any kind
and into the garbino

As much as people want to pretend otherwise, webcomics should have been included on the list. Maybe not that many, but picks like Nib or KSBD are good enough.

I didn't expect them to get KSBD. It's still pretty weird though that they missed Unsounded and somehow included Oh Joy Sex Toy (a comic people only know about because of the "proud to be a cuck" meme) over Oglaf.

It's not bad as an intro list for people new to comics, except for the Marvel, DC, and Image stuff. There's still a few questionable choices but on the whole it works.

Subjective.
Seems to be based on Google results as opposed to people reading the actually books. The fact Bitch Planet, which is not a good book at all, is on the list along the side of Transmetropolitan and Mouse Guard is insulting. Also, the fact any manga is on this list is gross and made me puke a bit in my mouth.

You are in the wrong neighborhood faggot. Go back to Sup Forums you pretentious weeb idiot.

Top crimes against comics in the article:

-Squirrel Girl
-Black Panther
-Oh Joy Sex Toy

And the #1 reason why this is a bullshit list
-No mention of Achewood

I would argue that over the past 20 years, Achewood has the richest level of character writing and interpersonal dynamic building of any comic, print or otherwise.

>no noire of any kind
But that's wrong, Blacksad is on the list.

It's not really when you figure who shared the survey with their fans.

Fucking Iron Spike was on the Panel choosing the list and she publishes two of the comics there and promotes many of the others.

There's a few turds on the list (Squirrel Girl, that Marjorie Liu book, Bitch Planet, etc) but it's a solid list.

Aside from the webcomic section, I mean. That list is almost pure garbage, but that's pretty much what I was expecting once I saw the "Web Comics" headline.

Yeah, they just got the most popular, not the best.

Alas, I am sorry to see that Zebra Girl didn't make it into the webcomic section.

I was happy to see that I've gone through about a third of the list though.

Normies should literally not be allowed to have an opinion about comics, manga, anime or whatever the fuck.

Punpun on that list is the biggest joke of all. Pointless misery porn about an unlikable jackoff that tries to pass off ambiguity as profoundness. Solanin is the only good thing Asano's ever written.

Anything Yokota Takuma or Douman Seiman have done shits all over Jojo you memetastic fuck.

Maybe I'm retarded but I've spent like 10 years trying to "get" Achewood and it's just never clicked with me. Nedroid being left out of the webcomics section is probably the biggest crime.

That and It Hurts!!

>no Unsounded
>no McNinja

>Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

>Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

The list was selected by their staff. The only public participation was for nominations.

Yeah, OJST surprised me in it's conclusion. I honestly thought a comic like Octopus Pie would've made the list over a webcomic like OJST.

inclusion, I meant
