Doctor Endless: A New Genderfluid DC Comics Character For Suicide Squad Based On Neil Gaiman’s Sandman

>Doctor Endless: A New Genderfluid DC Comics Character For Suicide Squad Based On Neil Gaiman’s Sandman

Okay, so this we were not expecting. Were you? Doctor Endless. We understand this is the new DC Universe’s first genderfluid character — and a familiar-looking one, too. Doctor Endless pulls their look and powers from the Sandman’s Endless characters, as created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg.

The character will appear in Suicide Squad: The Black Files #1 out in August — one of a number of new characters in a story written by Jai Nitz and drawn by Scot Eaton.

Sebastian Faust, the U.S. government’s top arcane operative, has gone rogue! To track down America’s most dangerous magician, Amanda Waller assembles a special ops team unlike any other: an expendable coven of dark arts experts including El Diablo, Enchantress and Gentleman Ghost. They are Suicide Squad Black, and they will take you to places where even the dead can die!

We’re told that DC Comics intends this to be a strong book for retailers to sell to both Sandman fans and those with an interest in LGBTQ matters.

Isn't this what you faggots want? It's a new character not replacing anyone that the creator made because they wanted to.

Hot. Porn when?

>Doctor Endless pulls their look and powers from the Sandman’s Endless characters, as created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg.

Oh that's retarded. I thought you guys said dC was good.

Literally tumblr the character. It's doa. But as says, it's nothing worth getting worked up about.

No, they want everybody to look like Cap or Batman

Its clearly not enough for some faggots but what is

I don't think anyone is against it as long as it's a good story and character. If it's a bad story and character that takes resources from other books, that's an issue.

So...what? They're like some kind of amalgamation of all the Endless?

Looks like Aaron Diaz' cyborg waifu

Could be really interesting, as long as they're written and a person who is gender-fluid and not defined by their gender-fluidity then it should be good, but I doubt this will be the case as it looks like Tumblr tan

That's the problem with a lot of more diverse characters, they're pushed with the greatest of intentions, but they're then defined solely by their race or sexuality or whatever, I look at Jane Foster and I see Female Thor when I should just see Thor. Ms Marvel worked because even though her culture was a big part of her character, it wasn't her whole character, so I don't see Muslim Ms Marvel, I see Ms Marvel, in the same way I see Green Lantern, not Muslim Green Lantern with Simon Baz. Them being diverse isn't the problem, it's then being written as shallow characters defined by arguably arbitrary characteristics leaving a hollow and boring character than ends up doing more harm than good, even if the intentions are good

What the hell even is genderfluid?

Wait, is genderfluid the new codeword for "chick dressed up like a dude"? I can never keep up with this newfangled terminology.

Fancy word for LARPer.

Its someone who identifies as male or female or neither depending on the day the week.

wasn't desire genderfluid? I don't see the problem that an endless knockoff has stuff the endless did

Gender changes based on how you feel, it's fluid as it flows from one to the other

Desire male or female on a whim

Okay, but how come it almost exclusively comes up in conjunction with a chick dressed like a dude?

I am unsure qhat to think of this
>First genderfluid character
How do you say that and mention the endless in the same fucking sentence.

Isn't that just bipolar disorder?

Looks like a good idea.

I like the design, but what can he/she/it/they do?

If it makes sense for a character to be genderfluid, it's for one related to the endless.

sandman was vertigo wasnt it

I don't know what to think ...... they do this but then tease the Endless appearing in JLA with Destiny talking to Killer frost

I prefer Felix to Sebastian, but beggars can't be choosers.

Gender in the First World has become a fashion accesory now, not unlike clothing.

bitches be crazy

No, bipolar is to do with behaviour and mood, gender fluid is only gender, though I would assume most of it is based on feeling so you're not far off the mark

Okay, so they're genderfluid because they are literally an amalgamation of different male and female characters, and will resonate more strongly with certain ones at certain periods, so it could actually physically go between being male and female within the very same sentence depending on their mood and thoughts. Because that's what it is, it's literally different people in the same body. Not some random guy/girl playing a part or some kind of brain chemistry thing, it's magic fusion.

You know what? I'm actually down for this!

Yes! Actually! I can't believe it but DC just said "Here's a genderfluid character" and played the 'progressive' card, but hey! It's a unique character, it's not replacing anyone, it's got a reason why it's personality ties into it's unique powers, and it's in a side book like Suicide Squad. If it catches on, fantastic! If not, okay! Testing ground to see where the pros and cons of the character and powerset are and an eject button in case they fuck it up.

This is good! This is what Marvel should be doing, less "Your favorite character is a new person because you only cared about power and superhero name right"? More "We got an idea let's make some fucking magic."

Still counts.
Still I am going to believe dc genuinly feels it does not count and are not just doing the first muslim hero bullshit Marvel pulled.
I also hope this character turns out as good as kamala did.

Was that deadman book any good? I only got round to reading the first issue so far.

Is that his actual look? A literal rainbow trench-coat? I mean, isn't that a little TOO gay?

They could have just reintroduced the Endless and did a solo series for Desire, it could have carried a book with all of its machinations and plotting.

But no, we get Doctor Endless, who has the powers of Death, Destruction, Destiny, Desire, Despair, Delirium, and Dream
>original character do not steal

If he's a cool/fun character I won't give two shits about the gender thing. But if it's preachy and bad he sucks

>that the creator made because they wanted to.

That doesn't save a character from being crap or forced or wanked off or so OP and better than everyone and everyone loves them and they're just the best. Bad OC's in long running series are pretty much par for the course.

That said, anyone who claims this guy is any of that is just trolling until we see it happen. Every character started as an OC at some point, it's sticking the landing that matters.

Are they also connected to killer frost?

they do have the Tease of Destiny in JLA but I guess Tumblr the Character is more important then the originals

I'm not big on the concept of genderfluidity, but given the fact that this character is meant to be mystic and magical, I can buy that they're a shapeshifter that does not adhere to strict gender boundaries.
It also helps that they are an original character (even if it's an Original Character Do Not Steal), as opposed to outright replacing an established hero with a legacy character that is genderfluid.

That being said, I'd love some kind of comic to try and recreate the Scramble Suit.

but remember, when Marvel does it, they get crucified for publicly announcing it unlike DC

Wait.

So this is all six of the Endless who retained their powers combined?

Because I'm only seeing Desire, Death, Dream, and Delerium.

If Dr. Endless here has Despair's ring and never touched the ground like Destiny then that would be all of them.

Dr. Endless shouldn't have anything Destruction based.

I don't mind the genderfluid shit but I hate his power source. It's fucking retarded.

We get this but not any endless stuff in final night.

yeah actually. if he's awful I can just avoid him while the characters I like go about their normal non genderfluid business.

Because it's usually replacing some other character.

in after Sup Forums morel panic thread

Whatever happened to that transsexual DC was pushing during the nu52. Ystin?

I thought it was what they wanted. Are people complaining about this character even existing?

Then again, my only thought on the whole thing is 'I want that coat'.

>It's a new character not replacing anyone that the creator made because they wanted to.
All well and good on that end, but given how this character was "created" all the same it's really just one of the many corpses stemming from the death of creativity.

If it's some cosplay/tribute faggot leeching off some small aspect of the Endless, I'm okay with that. If it has any influence on the Endless themselves, you can stick it straight in the trash bin.

I think it was Tumblrites who pushed Ystin as a transsexual. From what I remember, she just disguised herself as a male in order to be taken seriously.

Captain Marvel, Richard Rider, Peter Parker, and Tony Stark don't exist anymore?

its degeneracy. you shouldn't be shoving gays or trannies down kids throats. they are .0001 percent of the population why is every character a quiltbag

It's an advanced magical user who has meditate on the nature of the endless.

Is Shade, The Changing Man gay?

What if we just made a super that was genderfluid because they were and they didn't stuff it in our face, nor have them be relevant to something else?

My beef is not that it's a genderfluid character; that fits both the concept of the character and the fact that Desire, one of the Endless, is basically genderfluid. I just don't think it's a particularly creative character so I think the core idea is sort of lame.

How it's executed, however, remains to be seen.

> interest in LGBTQ matters

So they're going after islamists?

>kids
>reading comics
Kek, get outta here Sup Forums

I want OC characters. It'd be nice if some of them just happen to be gay, but it should be incidental to who whey are as a person, not their entire identity (as the design in OP's picture suggests might be the case).

>This is what Marvel should be doing
Well, America and Moon Girl are just that.

In general though Marvel's terrified of not leaning on the crutch of names already on lunchboxes and in movies. They have that little faith in their own creators.

>We understand this is the new DC Universe’s first genderfluid character

I don't think this is true. Like I feel like a number of shapeshifters have suggested the sentiment?

And it's not even someone who is experiencing what real people would. They are pulling from multiple personalities in one body. How is that different from, off the top of my head, JL3K1's Guy Gardner (though that was quite messy)?

DC had a genderfluid character a couple years ago (Porcelain in New 52 Secret Six) and didn't advertise it at all

something with Sandman connections is infinitely more marketable, to be fair

You haven't read Sandman have you.
Rainbows are one of Delirium's traits, the ankh Death, the white hair Despair (or the second Dream) the fluidity Desire, etc., etc.

>Doctor Designed-by-Sup Forums

>Well, America and Moon Girl are just that.

Well, then they should try doing that, but actually good.

Wouldn't Death alone count as genderfluid considering the Black Racer and Black Flash are aspects of her? Or are they not male enough to count?

>sandman was vertigo
It was still in the main universe. The JL met Death and Daniel. Daniel even gave Kyle a pep talk.

I don't think a story focused on Desire would fit DC's main universe. It'd literally just be a continuous orgy.

>We understand this is the new DC Universe’s first genderfluid character
Is this true?

>the ankh Death
You mean Eye of Horus? He doesn't have an Ankh.

maybe by "new DCU" they meant in Rebirth?

>Moon Girl

Nobody tell him.

Eh. Don't really care, but that white hair tuft shit is getting to be a trend.

I liked it but I sort of saw the twist coming.

Doesn't she always wear an ankh necklace?

They're way more than that amount and there's not sex involved.
Are you completely retarded?

America too is a Miss America legacy

Do we have a definition of genderfluid to go by. Cause people always move the goalposts in these things.

Acrata from Batgirl and Comet from Supergirl in the 90s comes to mind.
Actually, the 90's had a shit ton of genderfluid characters in DC and Vertigo.

>Genderfluid
>literally the adult term for playing dressup

>We understand this is the new DC Universe’s first genderfluid character
But Porcelain in Secret Six came first

Who wrote this article so we can tell them they're wrong?

IS THIS SHIT FOR REAL?

...

Well Sandman after the first arc didn't focus so much on Dream as it did people who were touched by Dream. Sandman was just as much about Rose Walker, Barbie, Hob, and other humans as it was about Dream and the Endless.

A Desire series could focus on it using people's inherent desires to spark situations, fuck with Daniel, its relationship with Despair....you can do more with the character than just sex sex sex all the time.

If they're black or a woman, sure.

If it's something retarded, well...

Death? Yes.
Dr.Endless, doesn't seem to be unless it's tucked under or in his pocket. Which seems an odd practice given you'd want to show a sign not hide it.

As long as I get to see him crossdress it's fine.

Reminder that Killer Frost is an Endless

I just wish the hair was different.

yeah I misread, sorry friend

So......it can switch from being a dude to a chick?

I'm ok with this. Make Xi a character that is just looking into the laws of the universe and how the Endless work in it. Coming across a lot of the concepts.

Sounds like a good idea.

Looks like Desire, who is already trans

My first take was some variant of Shade the Changing Man.

We also want it to be good. This sounds like a terrible idea, but if Gaiman was writing, I'd be on board. Who's piloting this shitheap? Ii have no idea who they are.

Functionally, it's a subset of it, as social behavior regarding gender is obviously behavior. Every genderfluid person I"ve met was either on MAOIs, or really needed one.

he's FABulous.

>My first take was some variant of Shade the Changing Man.
Yeah the coat with the rainbow ooze is quite Shade.

I miss Shade.

I wonder what Neil Gaiman may think about this?
