Give a character their own spinoff

>give a character their own spinoff
>completely change their personality
What's even the point then.

$$$

Marquee value.

Casuals don't care.
By the time they do, the production company has enough episodes to sell the syndication rights.

We got big boob June, Patti and Donna out of it.

because viewers will go
>oh, I remember that guy from that other show
and then watch it regardless of quality.

fpbp

Seth MacFarlane can't stray away from his money making formula.

Do you think any of his supporting cast besides the wife will appear in Family guy? The redneck with the fat wife and the bear were pretty underwhelming, but I kinda liked his dad.

No, the most we got out of them was Cleveland saying that Donna's mom died. It was a part of some joke, but that was it.

They tried to keep Cleveland's personality early in the series but they realized it wasn't working. It wasn't that much of a big deal tbqh, he was much better at being Peter Griffin than Peter himself.

this is weapons grade autism

The entire series was an exercise in removing all the shitty parts of FG and making a better show out of it

At least it had classic Quagmire
And also this was the only good joke

Most people didn't care.
Cleveland's staying the same as he was in FG as a support character didn't work like you think.

>the only good joke
>They just had Quagmire say "giggity" a lot

Repeating a catch-phrase isn't something I'd even call a "joke"

Well compared to most of the jokes in the show, this was somewhat of a refresher.

Didn't they cancel king of the hill for this abomination?

How is it that the characters in American Dad are actually attractive but in other MacFarlane shows they all look kinda horrifying?

2 reasons. Cleveland didn't really have a personality on FG as did Peter, Joe, and Quagmire.

Also MacFarlane probably wanted more viewers from the minority (blacks) so why not do a show about Cleveland. (Which failed) in honesty, AD and SP a popular black show.

But now Chamberlain Heights taking over.

>People in this thread blaming MacFarlane as if he's was involved with any show post 2008
That's when you know everyone's underage

Yes but it was a blessing in disguise. Koth was starting to decline and wasn't too far away from becoming mediocre. It's best it ended when it did. Cleveland show also got good towards the end, shame it was cancelled.

>that gif holy shit

You made my afternoon

It's lame. They finally got over boring-ass Terry, and they made the doctor guy an interesting character.

He voices half the characters on Family Guy and American Dad. He voices a few characters on the Cleveland Show. He's a producer on everything. He's part of the team in the writers room.

TV writing isn't like novel writing. It's a collaborative process. The person credited as writer is just the one who did the most work on it. Other writers and producers in the room in pitch jokes and plot points. Seth influences all the writers even when he's not credited.

>AD and SP a popular black show
Yeah, AD seems to actually get black culture way better than the Cleveland Show ever did.

Under normal circumstances you'd be correct but not in these shows. Don't be naive, MacFarlane is just a brand now, that's why he gets a meaningless title like producer. He cashes in his checks and let's everyone else do whatever they want. He's wanted to end family guy for about a decade but it's Fox's cash cow. It's a pretty sweet gig. The only effort MacFarlane puts in is the voice work.
