That's wrong. Animation is a word with that definition correct but when talking about the art of animation, puppets are not it.

Stop motion is frame by frame animation. Using puppets correct. Just because it has puppets doesn't mean it's not animation.
CGI is a new medium. Yes it is animation but it probably wouldn't have been called such when animation first started out. You don't call live action animation even though it uses frames.
