Bettie Page just got a new comic

Bettie Page just got a new comic.

I haven't read it yet, but it looks nice.

And I mean REALLY fucking NICE!

It's all tits and ass and vintage cars, and it's just cool looking shit is the point.

The covers in particular are works of art.

So let's all check it out.

BUMP IF YOU'RE READING

I don't even know if it's an ongoing or a mini though.

There are a couple photo covers as well.

The funny thing is Betty from The Rocketeer already was Bettie

Seriously, they need to bring photo covers back.

There are 12 covers for this total! The digital rip only contains 5 of them.

And here we go...

What does Sup Forums think of the interior art?

I'm kinda digging it.

bitch is insanely overrated and her tits were never that big

The whole vibe of the book is "refreshing", for lack of a better word.

The inking seems rushed as fuck though.

I think the writing's appropriate for the character and setting though.

And the humor's exactly what you'd want from a campy T&A schlock book.

Thanks for that hot take. Really groundbreaking stuff

All in all, I'd consider it one of the best releases of the week.

The "faux-traced" "realistic" style look of the comic is kind of weird, but I think it works for what they're trying to do.

Helps that the artist can actually draw females.

What other comics did you guys read today?

And what was your favorite?

And what are you still waiting on?

Was this drawn with a marker?

Or maybe it was watercolor?

Anyway, is Stokoe Aliens out yet?

Is Shaolin Cowboy out yet?

bump

Y'know, one thing that I don't get is how Bettie Page licensing works.

Like does she actually have to approve of shit or is her image public domain?

Plus she retired decades ago and I doubt she even keeps up on Bettie Page merchandise.

And that's that.

Not the sexiest art ever, but I dig it for sure.
Never been shy toward realistic looking.

BEST COVER

Pretty cool thanks!

SECOND BEST COVER

WORST COVER

Was Bettie page the Elvira of the 60's?

This is nice.

Try 50s.

Nice pic.

>California is farther than I go on a first date.

heh

This dialog is pitch perfect for this kind of comic.

Some of the line and detail work looks like standard felt pen, but some of the shading and coloration definitely has a definite watercolor vibe

LOL!

What are the odds that I can pick this up without the guy at the LCS thinking I want cheesecake instead of campy spy adventures?

It's a mini.

>That's not a question.

This is actually pretty solid dialog.

Nice, I was just wondering if someone was going to storytime it. It's good campy fun.

This art is really impressive.

Her estate has to approve stuff like this that uses her name and image. The Rocketeer series gets away with it because the Bettie character in that has a different name and sometimes doesn't look like Page depending on the artist.

well that was unexpected

Speaking of Elvira and celebrity comics, Dynamite just announced they're doing an Elvira comic in October. The first official Elvira comic since DC's House of Mystery in the 80s.

Just say you like campy spy adventures if he says anything.

I don't expect him to say anything, it's judgmental silence that I fear.

Just play it cool, just pick like one or two other comics and pretend like its no big deal. I believe in you, user.

My pull list for this week has like ten other books, anything new I pick up will stand out.

It's like buying Playgirl

>I'm just getting it for my girlfriend

You're worrying too much about this, it's issue 1 of a new series, as long as you don't buy the nude photo cover, no one will think anything of it. I'm sure the comic store guy has no idea who Bettie Page was (depending on how old he is).

How many issues?

I think it's either 4, 5, or 6.

>Dynamite

So it'll be shit. Great. Why is it so hard for horror anthologiesthese days to get good writing and art?

Sounds cool.

What makes you say Dynamite is shit?

Their track record.

This book is Dynamite and it's good. Centipede is good. Magnus is good. Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys is good. About half of their Shadow books are good. Dynamite is actually turning things around recently. I used to absolutely hate them for things they were doing with pulp characters, but now I think they're on their way to surpassing Image in quality. Many of the books that I'm most excited for each week end up being Dynamite, even though that's mostly because they've started playing to my tastes a bit.

No problem.

>This book is Dynamite and it's good

It's passable at best.

Like?

Bumpin' because this was a fun comic.

The Shadow, mostly awful.
Green Hornet, outside of Year One, no good.
All Superpowers (i.e. public domain cape books) relaunches like Black Bat, Masks, Black Terror, etc. turned out pretty bad.
Bettie Boop, not outright bad but not good either.
Alice Cooper horror anthology? Dreadful.
Xena, trash.
All Army of Darkness comics almost 100% bad.
The Spirit, entirely dull and forgettable.
Vampirella, remember when they tried to redesign her?

Granted, they put out so much stuff that occasionally you do get some good titles by accident, but that's usually due to the talent rather than the property. Like most Ennis books will be good, unless it's the Shadow. Wagner's Zorro was excellent. The Bond comics have been surprisingly decent for a licensed comic.

Her breasts were a lot smaller in real life.

Yea the thing could have more vibrant colors too.

>All Army of Darkness comics almost 100% bad.
The main series is pretty shit since it got cluttered with crossovers and continuity errors, but the reboot "Ash and the Army of Darkness" was by far the best series they've done with that property.

Ah, yes. Another Dynamite book that rules you in with gorgeous cover art only to deliver rather uninspired interior art.

>That last panel
This is almost as bad as the recent issues of Marvel's Star Wars with the photoshopped film stills on cartoon bodies.

Accidental unibrow in one panel.

This is the cover I grabbed.

Would be cool if they try to replicate her really heavy southern accent in her dialogue.

Really? I thought they were bigger then themselves. Crazy!

>Vampirella, remember when they tried to redesign her?

Didn't they drop that and go back to her old look?

Yes.

You're thinking Red Sonja. Vampi looks like this now.

Nah, it looks kinda cool.

That is the worst looking thing ever.

Did your LCS have the nude cover?

If they did, it wasn't on the shelf.

>then

bumping for others

Dynamite has a history of putting ZERO effort into getting quality writing or art for their books. FFS, they don't even have front page credits for most of their series! But that situation seems to be slowly, gradually improving, fortunately.

>Centipede is good

Really?

I guarantee the LCS guy buys some real weird porn comics for creepy regulars that he keeps hidden in their folders. This is nowhere near the worst thing he sees during any given week.

Both of the Atari books are good (Swordquest and Centipede).

By the guy who wrote Foolkiller.

There was also Leth's relaunch attempt. It's a shame the new Vampi book sucks, I was expecting more from the creative team

I didn't realize those were even both Dynamite.

Looks like an ugly Catwoman

It just looks ugly period.

I've tried to read it, it's as awful as you'd think.

You can barely call it a Vampirella book.

reading....

This.
LCS guy know where all the yaoi is hidden.
