Admit it, them making good movies is a rarity

Admit it, them making good movies is a rarity.
It's only recently that they started being decent.

>1st avengers lack luster
now hold on just a minute ther-
>The Incredible Hulk lackluster
fuck you. just fuck you.

Iron Man isn't that good

People just like it because it had the highest novelty value, being the first

The entire third act is a snooze fest. Whenever I rewatch it, I basically turn it off after Tony gets done with his dogfight vs the USAF

Can't really disagree with that picture.

...

>thor 2 and Iron man 3 were not bad
Shit eater

>Admit it, them making good movies is a rarity.
>posts a selfmade picture where well over half the movies would be considered good or better
lol?

I think it's telling that the best possible rating this image gives is "Great" and the worst possible rating is "Lackluster".

Marvel movies are at best, 7/10s, and at worst 5/10s. I've never walked out of a Marvel movie and felt like I wanted to see it again immediately, and I've also never walked out of a Marvel movie pissed off about how shitty it was. They're fun but vapid.

Who cares, I just want to have the comfy feel of being inside the MCU again.

I don't think anons realize how good we have it with capeshit these days.

Iron Man 3 was one of my favourites. What's not to like?

>inb4 it sugged because they ruined muh mandirin.

I don't think you've seen a BAD movie.

Personally, there were several things about each movie that I liked.
They have nothing to do with the plot, but I don't hate either film. I'd much rather watch them than fucking Thor 1 or Iron Man 2.

>TDK and Spiderman 2 (2004) in the same tier

extremely based, no irony. excellent taste for that call alone

Wait a second, where hell are Blade & Blade II? (i assume Blade Trinity goes in the lowest tier)

>them making good movies is a rarity
>more than half of the movies is good/great
>rarity
lmao

I agree but not in the way you put it.

A "bad" marvel movie is as rare as a "good" one, most of the time they shit out decent movies you have a fun time with, not good enough to make you want to rewatch it over and over again nor bad enough to completely despise it.

Having said that I mostly agree with your pic, you have surprisingly good taste.

9 to 7 is a good track record.
Especially when the early movies had issues due to a lack of forward thinking, hindsight and cohesion.

I'd move Avengers to great, Hulk to good, Iron Man 3/Thor 2 to bad.

What's up with everyone desperately trying to convince Sup Forums that Marvel movies shouldn't be enjoyed?

Sup Forums is contrarian by nature and the MCU is popular, just put two and two together.

The problem is that people aren't even trying to convince them they are bad, like everyone has it totally wrong. It's just that in the last few days i've seen so many "It's not REALLY a 6.5/10, it's more like a 5.2371/10"

Ant-Man and Doctor Stange were IronMan but shit. Captain America was bad too. Iroman 3 should go to Good and 2 to Bad

Pretty much this. To me, they're not groundbreaking pieces of cinema, but most of them aren't unwatchable either. They're just a couple of fun flicks that I think are either 'great' or 'meh'.

put everything to bad except Iron Man 1

>Iron Man 3
>Not a good movie

>Guardians of the Galaxy
>great
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This is growing sentiment and I find it to be wrong. So many people here are so afraid of just saying "I like Marvel movies." I think it's an achievement all in it's own to make extremely entertaining blockbusters. I would rate Iron Man 1, Winter Soldier, GotG, and Avengers 1 all 8/10s or even higher with more thought; all on the premise that they had excellent set pieces or managed to create cultural icons. No one would ever judge you if you say your absolute favorite movie is one of the Indiana Jones movies, even though they aren't all masterpieces of any kind.

And it's not just the Rotten Tomato or Metacritic "critics" that like Marvel movies. Even YMS rated Spider-Man Homecoming a 7/10, a rating he has given out to movies like Silence, Creed, Get Out, and Kubo and the Two Strings.

It's literally just Sup Forums (or Sup Forums) that try so hard to make it seem bad to say you just simply like Marvel movies or to think they can even be fantastic.

>Even YMS rated Spider-Man Homecoming a 7/10
I liked Homecoming but why would I want to listen to a man who supports bestiality?

>It's just that in the last few days
Look at Wonder Woman's tomato rating and gross; then look at Spider-Man's. Do the math.

It literally gets worse with repeated viewings. It's almost admirable how he managed to do that.

Oh, no, I never said I didn't like them! They're (mostly) fun and enjoyable-- the only exception I can think of in recent memory is Dr. Strange, which I fell asleep on a plane while watching and missed twenty minutes of the first act. I know taste is super subjective and I'm prepared to be judged for mine, but there's nothing about Marvel movies that make me want to go back and revisit them. Going to sound like an autist here, but I compare that with some of my favorite movies, which I've probably watched ten or fifteen times. And not high cinema either-- Pacific Rim and Hellboy 2 are both on that list.

The only thing you said that I take major issue with is: I think it's a little disingenuous to say that the latest retellings of characters/stories that have existed for decades "create[d] cultural icons".

Also all three of the Indiana Jones movies are masterworks of pop cinema, so I'm not really sure what it is you're talking about. I think it's a false equivalence to compare a film that still holds up 40 years later with a franchise that's only a decade old.

Dr. Strange wasn't that good on my first viewing, I had to be on acid real bad before I understand what it was going for. Now I'd say it's probably Marvel's best movie and most consistent character. I'm gonna be heartbroken when they ruin him.

>It's literally just Sup Forums (or Sup Forums)
Pretty much.

>ad hominem
cringe

I'm just saying other people besides Sup Forums have no problem saying they love Marvel movies and can put them in line right with independent or dramatic movies. Why can't Sup Forums?

No, he's got a good point there. That's a question that deserves an answer user.

>admits to watching Pacific Rim more than once
>not just skipping to the fight scenes
Seek help, senpai.

wow your opinion sure holds so much value

I don't think Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is anywhere near as good as the other two

>samefagging
Cringing Intensifies

He's not the user you replied to. I should know. I am that user.

>anywhere near as good as the other two
>as the other two
>two
I see what you did there.

...

I'm a completely different guy. All I want to know is why that guy has to listen to a dude who wants to fuck animals.

refer to

what the hell, I'm anonymous. Same poster.

Pacific Rim is maybe a loaded example for me. I included it because it's a comic book-y movie. I actually really just like del Toro as a director, too (both Hellboys are solid and Pan's Labyrinth is another one I revisit again and again). As far as Pacific Rim goes... I had a brother I was extremely close to that I lost. Whenever I'm missing him a lot, I watch the movie as a reminder that I can move forward with my life in a healthy way, even if the feeling of loss never goes away.

Wow, I'm getting real on the chinese cartoon website tonight.

I think it's less iconic but still extremely good. The violence in comparison to the other two originals does make it tonally different in a subtle but palpable way.

>not ranking The Crow
Plebian as can be

Ant Man was fucking great and in the top 3 MCU movies

Pan's Labyrinth is one of the best movies ever made. Del Torro can do great stuff sometime but not all the time. He went to spain to make the movie and wow. It made a difference

Well, it was a movie about the Spanish Civil War. It would have been weird to film it in Los Angeles. Agreed though-- I love his willingness to commit to whatever he wants to make, without feeling pigeonholed into one genre or style. It lets him actually articulate his style in a meaningful way. I love how even in Pan's Labyrinth he still stages scenes with giant rotating gears in the background.

Hyped for the Shape of Water-- it looks like it'll be another great film, and Doug Jones is always exceptional.

if you had to be on drugs to "get it", it's probably not that great

>flawed but entertaining
>neither of the Ghost Riders
>no Spiderman 3

>No one would ever judge you if you say your absolute favorite movie is one of the Indiana Jones movies, even though they aren't all masterpieces of any kind.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, you can't be "above" Marvel movies if your favorite shit includes Star Wars or Bond or something like that.

Spider-Man 3 belongs in OH SHIT NIGGER etc tier

Why? It's like Revenge of the Sith, an unintentional comedy movie.

Legitimately patrician taste right here.

Its refreshing not to see company wars bullshit on Sup Forums.

>Doug Jones is always exceptional.
He is also one of the reasons i have hope for star trek discovery

>Memes of the Galaxy
>Great

/thread

Only thing is Spider-man 3 isn't in Flawed But Entertaining Tier

my rebuttal

When will you grow up and realise that The Avengers isn't a good movie? It's an entire two hours based on the novelty of seeing actors from different movies stand in the same scene

Maybe "great" isn't the right word then. More like "I like it this much". I understand your point but I do still genuinely look super fondly back on that movie when I watch it now.

What's so wrong about it, user?

>Dr.Strange on the same level as Civil War and Ant-Man.

Swap GOTG with SM and Hulk with CACW

I don't get it.

I just don't get it!

Yeah, Thor: The Dark World, compared with other MCU movies is disappointing, but I for one would rather watch it ANY DAY over Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3.

How on earth are both of those consistently ranked as being better than it?!

Sup Forums is for kids. What do you expect? Personally I think TWS is one of the best action movies in the last 10 years.

I thought Iron Man 2 was ok but IM3 is by far the worst Marvel movie to me. Thor 2 > Thor 1 but I hope Thor 3 blows everything else away.

100% this

This place is just a bunch of contrarians circlejerking themselves over how superior their taste is over casuals.

You get ripped apart here if you dare mention why you think the MCU is great. It's like nobody is allowed to like them.

I agree it's like Revenge of the Sith, but both movies are only funny if you extract certain scenes and make memes of them. There's literally zero reason to actually watch the film.

Ant-Man has the best third act of any non-sequel solo film.

This should have an Average tier for Cap 1 and Avengers. Avengers is great for what it is, but it's not that special as a movie on its own merits

Now do X-Men

>TMNT, Judge Dredd, V for Vendetta, Sin City
>Capeshit
>No The Incredibles

Get the fuck outta my sight

are we just going to ignore OP's totally wrong statement?

>good movies is a rarity
literally more than half of his own rated movies are good or better

>Now do X-Men
Not OP but

Antman is nothing special.

Guardians 2 should be in "Great"

fix this

that's bullshit for Apocalypse and you know it

How is a sentiment wrong?

So many things wrong with this

First off, a sentiment or opinion can't be "wrong", it's not an objective thing to say the MCU is either great or OK or terrible.
Second, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a masterpiece
Third, well handled set pieces and cultural icons do not a great movie make
Fourth, don't use YMS in your argument ever for anything, not because of the bestiality thing but he is not a respectable critic
Even if you go on Reddit, one of the biggest supporters of the MCU, most will admit that few of the films can be called truly exceptional and that they are mostly dumb fun films. I personally am a fan of even the lesser Marvel movies (Iron Man 3, Thor) but I have no illusions about the type of films the MCU are

Name one MCU movie as good as ESB/ANH or Goldfinger/Casino Royale. I'm waiting

Ant man
DocStrange
Gotg2

Are shit tier

It is like Ocean's eleven

It's more like the MCU raised the bar for the average cape flick, our standards are way higher from the days of Fantastic Four and X-Men.

Sure there was Raimi and Nolan back then, but they were the exception. We take the MCU for granted now.

lmao
not a single MCU flick has reached X2 levels

What? That movie was horseshit. I thought everyone actually agreed on that.

Not that user but the first Iron Man is better than ANH. Not the rest of them though and that's the only one I could say that about.

Move Doctor Strange and Ant Man to Lackluster.

Move Thor: TDW, Iron Man 3 and Avengers AoU to Bad.

How can you make this post when the image shows those exact three movies as Great and none Bad?

What is your point besides trying to pretend to yourself that you're "one step ahead of the curve" while regurgitating the exact opinion others have said before you, minis the pretentiousness?
