Is this any good? I loved Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea.

It's not even out yet jackass

>hey little girl, how old are you?
>t-twelve...
>nah, nevermind, too old

the puppet scenes give me strong Persepolis flash backs.

Hurtful.

It will be interesting for us to see a film that acknowledges the good and bad of Muslim culture.

Like that Habidi book from the guy who did Blankets. "Islam is a religion of art and learning with scripture full of poetry and wonder. It's also an as backwards desert culture that embraces pedophilia and slavery. Bit of a mixed bag."

>Islam is a religion of art
it's against their religion to art, you can only draw inanimate objects, no animals or stuff like that, specially humans

That's boring.

You didn't even skim the Wikipedia page did you?

but if you are into tiles then you have some good porn

What happened to pic related? For anyone who doesn't know, it's Emara: Emirates Hero. Basically a Arabnime

That's kind of a stereotype. They do figure drawings and sculptures, just very rarely any religious figures. Idolatry and all that.

Shut up you fucking mudslime apologist. You shouldn't even be allowed here, since literally everything related to Sup Forums is banned in Islam.

I really don't use wkipedia, I read that from a book, I guess the book could be wrong or stuff changed during this last decade so I dunno. what I know it's all the art I've seen from islam there's only patterns and some representations of plants, pretty sure I've also seen animals but never humans, I know there's a rule about that.

>It will be interesting for us to see a film that acknowledges the good and bad of Muslim culture.
Persepolis is an animated movie that already did this.

Old Islam didn't have such restrictions, it wasn't even against the rules to portray Muhammad, that was a law that came into being several hundred years after Islam was founded.
Religions go through many reforms, sadly Islams reforms have largely been violent and restrictive. This is added onto a religion that was very 700 AD to begin with in terms of personal freedom and human rights.

Islam has also not had modern reformations save small communities of extremists that are about as Muslim as an atheist and just use Islam as a window dressing.

Oh man, I remember reading these books back in 5th Grade. Wonder if they'll shy away from how graphic they were...

Thanks! My girlfriend is Muslim and we're both into animation.

At the risk of sounding really stupid, will this film offend her? She's kinda of a Christmas and Easter Muslim, but I don't want to take any chances.

>My girlfriend is Muslim
DEUS VULT

You got a lot of anger buddy.

Nah, put the swords away, she's a fake Muslim. Not worth bothering about.

>swiggity swooty

Obviously not, if you're worried she'd get offended by a cartoon.

They literally riot and go on shooting sprees over cartoons.

I'm already vulting her deus

>Christmas and Easter Muslim
kek

also, Persepolis wasn't really about showing "the good and bad of muslim culture". It was more political than anything.

It's about one person living during the Iranian revolution and its aftermath. It doesn't really say anything about Islam itself and the closest it comes to "the bad" of "muslim culture" is portraying an extreme religious oligarchy as a bad thing. which it is. because of the "extreme" part.

I'm not worried about it offending her religiously. I just don't want it to be a situation where she thinks I'm like "look honey! A cartoon about islam! Aren't I tolerant?"

it's not about islam at all, really.

it's about iran.

I think I remember hearing there is a specific teaching that at least some of them interpret it as they're not allowed to draw or visually represent people or even living things at all. Something about not drawing God and people being made in God's image.

I went to school with a muslim girl and I remember during art class we were asked to draw our family, she said she wasn't allowed to draw people so the teacher asked her to draw her house and write the names of her parents and siblings, she was okay with it.

The girl in the movie says she believes in God, and in dream sequences (film is pretty steeped in psychological realism; that and it being a comic adaptation are probably the only reasons it's animated to begin with), although God appears as a drawn entity so I don't know how that floats with mainstream Islam. She usually only wears a hijab when she's in Islam-dominated environments and isn't afraid to break with those traditions when outside of their grasp. I still think it's a fairly spiritual, introspective movie though, just juxtaposed against political and social turmoil.

>hoping for a new trailer
>it's the old trailer again

oh

Isn't this Breadwinners?

>it's against their religion to art
>implying poetry, calligraphy, architecture, and nasheed aren't art

Persepolis is just plain a good film (and comic). Nothing wrong with wanting to watch it. Breadwinner looks like it's shaping up to be good and is from a good studio, so same.

But whatever you do, don't make her see the animated Muhammad: The Last Prophet. That's from a studio with a really bad history of turning out shitty films and would probably very much come off as a "look at how tolerant I am!" movie.

next you are going to tell me videogames are art

>implying painting the world red with the blood of infidels isn't an art

Show her "Innocence of Muslims", then. That's a good movie, and won't make you come off as "tolerant".

If she's South Asian or Middle Eastern there's a good chance her parents are plotting to kill her

Islamic "architecture" is just Visigothic architecture they stole from Spain.

The only other Muslim animation I can think of is this "Bilal" thing I heard of one time from the UAE. It seems like a fantasy set in Muslim folklore and I don't even know if its obtainable in America.

that was due to shithead """scholars""". Muslims would draw people and animals in the early years of islam.

>im still butthurt over 911
get over it fatso

ffs whats with the pol infestations on other boards lately? i just want to enjoy my comics.

>he thinks only Sup Forums dislikes people who follow the teachings of a genocidal child rapist

Do 1001 Arabian Nights animations count as muslim? Because then there are a lot more.

As far I can remember, Achmed only has one window dressing reference to "Allah" and the rest of it is general fantasy. It's Muslim in the way most JRPGs are Christian. Not familiar with how any other animations do it though.

>globalist New York bagelberg MUH DIVERSITY propaganda
Why does hollywood obssess about casting non-white actors in everything? Pathetic cucks...

I almost feel like that comment was a parody of a /pol comment.

it's scary how people communicate only in buzzwords now

Why does Sup Forums love responding to such obvious bait?

Sup Forums is too stupid to figure out if something is bait or not.

I stopped reading that book because everybody who was not the main girl or her adopted son was an asshole. I can see the "tough times to live in" angle, but to suggest EVERYONE except 2 people is either evil or stupid, is a bit much to accept.

What are the chances this wins the Oscar for Animated Feature, considering everything else this year looks mediocre or shitty?

Also because some anons really want to "btfo" out of pol or "pol", simply because they think it's a good idea to do that.

from what I've heard on Sup Forums, it's actually 4+4 chan been coming on lately.

They outright end the movie with all the characters praying the "the prophet" and allah

>Implying oscar voters even watch animated films

>The girl in the movie says she believes in God, and in dream sequences (film is pretty steeped in psychological realism; that and it being a comic adaptation are probably the only reasons it's animated to begin with), although God appears as a drawn entity so I don't know how that floats with mainstream Islam.

In the book she identified as Zoroastrian (as a child, anyway) and only ever wore the hijab for safety's sake. I don't know if that was ever mentioned in the movie.

All language are just abstract, intrinsically meaningless sounds that we've collectively agreed stand in for a specific concept. Buzzwords, when used in a community whose members agree on their meaning, are no less legitimate than any word Shakespeare used.

Sup Forums is too stupid for any smart person to comfortably assume a stupid post could only plausibly be bait.

kek/10

>Islamic "architecture" is just Visigothic architecture they stole from Spain.
other way around buddy

if its stupid just don't reply

t. The Tilefucker.

But seriously, if I were into tiles, I'd be all over that shit.

There's enough fuckers who enforce it with murder, and deliberatly go around destroying artwork with human figures. And even in relatively liberal places, like, say SE asia, it's tough to get life drawing classes off the ground without the imans getting in your face.

The fact that she's willing to date you in the first place without the brothers at the mosque fucking your shit up imply that she's probably OK enough with it.

>although God appears as a drawn entity so I don't know how that floats with mainstream Islam.
It doesn't at all. Assume it's murder time until proven otherwise.

Islam is pure evil batshit lunacy. It must be purged with nuclear fire.

why is it called breadwinner?

>inanimate objects, no animals or stuff like that, specially humans
dude that´s just figurative art and they made up with the most amazing caligraphy in the world
also not every muslim counrty banned figurative art

Yeah, that's pretty stupid but you're also stupid for thinking that you can only make art of animals and people.

I'm assuming because the little girl becomes a reverse trap in the absence of her father and becomes the man of the family, aka the breadwinner of the family.

I haven't read the book and don't know a lot of the plot details though so that's just a guess.

Congrats, that is exactly the reason why.

Are they going to show the part where one of her Friends legs get blown off from a landmine?

Use spoilers for fucks sake.

Books been out for 17 years, sorry you dont read.

There's no statute of limitations on common courtesy.

It's still getting made, they are just trying to fin a channel to host it on.

Don't remind me about that shit.

What about Memri TV?

...

No. Art... is an EXPLOSION!

>hanks! My girlfriend is Muslim and we're both into animation.
>My girlfriend is

Are you not?
Does she know you aren't?
You're going to get her stoned by her family bro, not cool

You're already willing her god?

Does it end with
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT

There are some good guys, like the librarian and the beggers and the guy who creates stuff out of the trash he fishes out of sewage.

It's actually already finished (I think it's a six episode mini-series, and the last episode or two was animated by the guys who did The Reward) but the UAE channels wouldn't air it because they wanted to be paid to air it. Last I heard they were trying to see if Netflix would take it. I hope it gets there, so I can make a shill thread for it.

Is Pixar making anything this year? If so, then no.

There's burka avenger, that one Chinese x saudi arabi joint made one and then Amona Al Mazyona. There are others but those came of the top of my head

Pixar made Cars and that was BTFO by that dancing penguin movie.

>guy has prominent nose
>girl just has a line going down her face

when will this meme end

What is up with that dude's face?

his face is... tired

Look at all these sandnigger-defenders. 9/11 was one of the worst events that happened to the USA. Death to the idea of Islam and a nuclear bomb over Mecca.
