How come Kang the Conqueror has been showing up in so many games lately? Marvel: Contest of Champions, Marvel Avengers Academy, Lego Marvel...
By now, it's pretty much accepted fact that Marvel has an embargo preventing FF characters from showing up in videogames and merchandise. They've been loosening up the embargo on the X-Men, but it remains for the FF.
Thanks to James Gunn, we know for a fact that because he technically debuted in FF, Kang's rights are at Fox and Marvel Studios can't use him. So how come he's exempt from the FF embargo in other media?

wait, is kang basically just brainiac? or is it the other way around?

Contest of Champions came out pre embargo so they can use anyone. As for the other two Marvel might have negotiated the rights back since James Gunn made that comment.

Kang isn't really like Brainiac at all. He's a guy from the future that got bored after he succesfully conquered everything, so he went around conquering things throughout all of history looking for a challenge. His Empire thus spans several millenia and several timelines.

They're nothing alike, really. Brainiac is a collector, Kang is a conqueror. He relishes battle and strife, and his ultimate goal is to have his name echo in the universe, across all of time and space.

They aren't even similar. If anything I'd say Kang is a time-travelling Mongul. And that's not very accurate either.

>Contest of Champions came out pre embargo so they can use anyone
CoC came out pre X-Men embargo, but the FF embargo was in full effect by then. After over 3 years, still no FF members and no Doom.

The embargo is self-imposed and mostly means "characters Fox might use" are off the table rather than "all characters Fox has rights to"

Brainiac's just some nerd with a shrinking fetish. Kang conquers for glory and glories in conquest.

Maybe Fox has Rama-Tut but can't use Kang, but Marvel Studios can't use Kang either.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes Kang was a great character.

>That Jonathan Adams voice.

What's even weirder is that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who actually have been used in the MCU, are absent from this and other games because they fall under the "mutant ban." But then why use Kang?

It's possible Gunn was confused of course.

Weren't Pietro and Wanda in Lego Marvel's Avengers?

WUZ

KANGZ

Yeah, but that was an exception since it was impossible to do an adaptation of AoU without them.

EGYPTIAN PHARAOHS

Lego Marvel's Avengers also managed to sneak in one FF character: The Wizard. Pretty weird.

Obligatory.

>It's possible Gunn was confused of course.

I doubt it. It got reported a lot and someone would've corrected him in public if that were the case. Plus there was that time when days before Gunn said MCU can't use Kang, that Trank or someone close to him went on to Sup Forums to say the Fant4stic trilogy would include Kang.

Is Kang related to Apocalypse?
Most blue people look alike to me.

>By now, it's pretty much accepted fact that Marvel has an embargo preventing FF characters from showing up in videogames and merchandise.

Just because Rich Johnston keeps shouting things at you in between downloading horse porn for his boss doesn't mean those things are true.

It just means you're being bullshat.

There's always a chance that they pulled an ego and traded someone for kang. I wouldn't look to much into it just because they're using him in a video game though.

He tried to find Apocalypse while he was Rama-Tut

So were you paid to post that or what?

>because they're using him in a video game though.

It's not just one video game, it's video game as OP pointed out.

The t-shirts with the Secret Wars covers editing out X-Men and F4 characters are real.
Spider-Man Unlimited removing the Fantastic Four logo from the Bag-Man suit was real.
Diamond Toys reporting that they couldn't do more F4 stuff at the time was real.
Mondo artists being told not to use Fantastic Four characters for their posters was real.
Marvel's cancellation of the F4 was "low sales" is laughable considering its sales in its final year were still better than a lot of Marvel titles today.

The facts don't change just because Rich Johnston lies about things.

So, is Chronopolis gonna be like New York from Marvel Superheroes 1, the planets from Lego Batman 3, or the Islands from LEGO Jurassic World? I really, really hope it's the first one.

It's gonna be like New York, and different areas are added/unlocked as you progress though story mode. You can fly/walk/swim from one area to another without hassle.

Namor is also under embargo, he hasn't been in any Marvel game since 2006.
Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 has LEMURIA instead of Atlantis in it, so I expect we'll get Attuma but no Namor just like in Avengers Academy.

dunno but i'm loving all the attention my boy is getting

Racist.
