Seeing as how Discovery is an salvageable clustefuck, in retrospect, would you rather have had Star Trek: Final Frontier be a thing?

Wrong board.

I'm excited for Star Trek Discovery. I haven't really watched a Star Trek Show since I was an adolescent watching the original airings of Star Trek: The Next Generation and syndicated reruns of Star Trek.

Captcha is full of shit. I selected street signs instead of the vehicles it asked me to select and it still accepted my submission.

I gonna watch the shit out of this and no

Only one half of a given captcha generally counts (apart from those ridiculous captchas we had recently). Still, Star Trek has so many damn Sup Forums-related adaptations that it may as well belong here as long as we're not discussing the live action except insofar as it relates to said adaptations.
that said, the new series sounds atrocious

Honestly I'd take anything that's set after DS9 and Voyager instead of another damn prequel.

Star Trek Nemesis ruined the franchise and my future enjoyment of any Star Trek series set after the ending of ST: TNG and ST: DS9.

Voyager should be expunged from canon.

I'm watching Nemesis right now.

I'm surprised they haven't tried the animated route again, seeing the multitude of successful Star Wars series makes me super jealous. Has anyone been reading waypoints? It's a fun anthology series they started releasing recently

>Captcha is full of shit. I selected street signs instead of the vehicles it asked me to select and it still accepted my submission.

you're welcome

I can't stand Voyager. Idk what the fuck they were thinking with Enterprise, and although I have respect for the original series, it is limited by on-set politics and such.

Oh you poor dear. Eject that movie from your life now. It will ruin Star Trek for you.

Thanks!

No prob. The new captchas are a bitch and a half. I have no idea why legacy isn't just the default

I want a show about the time police from DS9 and Voyager. That could be cool.

No, I need more TNG.

Why would Romulus be okay with a Picard clone running the place?

I'm just tired of fucking interquels and prequels everywhere. I don't know why people are so scared of continuing things.

Thank you. The only part I liked about the movie was the wedding scene. Everything else should have been completely rewritten.

What they should do is make nice with the author of this and start it in the original universe.

You could even tie it together by having Jim Kirk wishing Aya good luck after her obligatory disciplinary hearing at the end of the first movie. It could be the last thing Kirk does before the Enterprise-B "milk run" in "Generations."

What did Nemesis even do? I skipped it.

The name of the show itself is 'Discovery', but nothing seems to really point towards the show being about discovery and Boldly Going Where No Man Has Gone Before. Part of the appeal of Trek is that starry-eyed optimism, about people going out into the wilderness armed with some ideals and a rad spaceship and succeeding. Without that spirit in the show, why even bother?

You could always play Star Trek Online.

Nemesis is great though.
>i'm afraid you won't survive to witness the victory of the ECHO over the voice

There is a distinct possibility that the show will be dour as part of an attempt to rid Trek of campy fun and make it more marketable to modern audiences. However, the cast seemed enthusiastic about the core philosophy of Trek, so it could end up being a show that is about persevering through hardships which challenge that philosophy without abandoning it.

Jax would had been a total waifu
Plus an ideological officer whispering to the captain to kill them all would had driven many cool conflicts

Pic related is Jax

>in retrospect

The show hasn't even aired yet. But it's hard to get mad at Trekkies trying to write off a new series before they've even given it a chance because that, in itself, is a little bit of a Trek tradition. It's also hard to disagree, given that it's yet another goddamn prequel series.

So to answer your question, OP, I had no idea what Final Frontier was and had to look it up.
>In this series, the Federation would have fought a war with the Romulans, ending in the 2460s. This war would have been started by unknown persons using a surprise attack of Omega particle detonations. Vast areas of the galaxy would be considered impassable due to these detonations. This causes a split between the two halves of the Federation. During the Federation-Romulan War, Qo'noS was taken over by the Romulan Star Empire, Andoria was destroyed, and Vulcans left the Federation (they were negotiating reunification).

My answer is hell yes, I'd watch the fuck out of this over Discovery. Skews a bit dark for my tastes, I'm not really into the idea of a Trek show that's primarily focused around war, but it honestly sounds more promising than anything set pre-TOS possibly could be.

JUST

If you want to discuss live action then please go to Sup Forums. We're discussing a (canceled) animated series here.

You know /ourguys/ covered this

youtube.com/watch?v=tQcLLfzzKWA

Please see .

Canonically, nothing. I mean technically it killed Data, but it also left a loophole to bring him back easily that comics and novels immediately ran with.

It was just a really, really stupid attempt to give Picard his own Khan, and it bombed hard.

I really liked Nemesis. TWoK is incredibly overrated, too.

>Star Trek action cartoon a la late 90's and early 00's
>sexy female captain
Fund it!!

>it happens and Sup Forums loves it
>she turns out to be a female kirk/riker and bangs lots of alien chicks
>Sup Forums hates it and whines about how forced it is and says it always sucked and is a tumblr show, even though tumblr hates it anyway because attractive lesbians aren't progressive enough

I'd watch a Star Trek anthology series, that is just fans, fanfictions, played out onscreen.

BRING ON THE MARY SUES!

>Sup Forums hates a show because it has lesbians
Why are we also time traveling back to 2014 Sup Forums?

Thou art a god

I really don't think the Vulcans would ditch the Fed especially when the Romulans go full evil again. Like they wanted to do that in DS9 too and it's just kind of too much.

Reuniting two halves of a broken quadrant could be cool though.

what if she bangs alien dudes instead you insufferable fucking /u/fag.

like seriously does every assertive woman ever have to be a lesbian?

What if she bangs species with no gender? Or twelve?

Get Production IG, which made [pictured] to make an animated star trek series. Written and directed by some people that respect the franchise.

>every assertive woman ever
I'm pretty sure most of them are not, don't be dumb.

also
>captain of a starship on a mission of discovery
>implying her main job isn't to explore heavenly bodies
You have no sense of adventure.

Mother of god!

Spread the word

>Wrong board.
it's a abandoned official star trek cartoon project
cartoons aren't for Sup Forums?

The rights to the whole franchise were split between CBS and Paramount. It is basically impossible to make a real Star Trek series anymore. Anything they make will be legally required to be unrecognizable.

It boggles my mind that this kind of bullshit is even allowed to happen. If anyone ever wanted an example of art being destroyed by greedy business practices, that's a good one.

Final Frontier should have happened, but didn’t. Instead of discovery, what I would have wanted would have been a KT cartoon. Imagine the first 4 Issues of IDW Star Trek Boldly Go as a 2-hour TV event for a series premier! It also would allow us to keep Chekov in a form other than a comic page.

I'm gonna watch the ever lovin' fuck out of Discovery.

So, no.

The series concept ( war-torn Federation becomes insular and militaristc, idealistic captain wants to return to deep-star exploration) had real potential.

Their Enterprise design, however, was awful.

Ironically, Orville can reference almost anything it wants, because parody is protected free speech.

What the fuck, that's not a proper Starfleet ship. Then again, neither is the trash heap in Discovery.

Still, those dragonfly shuttles looked dope.

Looks like papercraft.

The Discovery looks a lot better than that "Enterprise".

The McQuarrie design was a mistake. Ralph dug triangles, he wasn't into saucers.

so Discovery takes place before Enterprise?
Didn't Enterprise take place about 100 years after the Federation was founded?

How is discovery going to be a clusterfuck? I dont know because i havent been following the news lately

all I've seen so far is people shitting themselves over the uniforms

I liked the uniforms, too.

Almost look like the ones use by Captain Data on the E.

See, this is a good design. It takes a lot of cues from the already established uniform designs (you can see a lot of TNG elements in there), while changing enough to look unique without going full retard.

Take the combadge off and anyone who's seen a few episodes of TNG would look at that and still be able to tell it's a Starfleet uniform.

>Discovery is an salvageable clustefuck

>illiterate degenerates despise a show that hasn't even aired yet
>it's the same troglodytes that hate on ST: ENT
>it's the same butthurt manchildren that hate on JJ's movies
Piss off. Apparently being a "trekkie" means being a bitter fool.

>disliking lesbians
If you're a guy, that means you're literally a faggot.

After Enterprise, 10 years before TOS.

>Implying ENT wasn't largely shitty until season 4, and even then the ending ruined everything
>Implying the JJverse was good prior to Beyond

I'm sorry, I forgot we're supposed to enjoy any plate full of shit shoved in front of us as long as it's "different".

Why do they keep making prequel series?
Enterprise, Discovery, the reboot movies.
I want a post TNG/DS9/Voyager series damn it.

>Seeing as how Discovery is an salvageable clustefuck, in retrospect, would you rather have had Star Trek: Final Frontier be a thing?
Yes, god yes.

Scans never....

Id rather keep Voyager and expunge ENTERPRISE.

Make ENT and First Contact the prequels to the JJVerse. May as well shove Discovery there too.

>Wrong board.
memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Final_Frontier

Followed this for years because of that hammerhead Enterprise. Shame they didn't choose the coolest concept art as their final pick and an even bigger shame they never made the series.

>memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Final_Frontier
Looks like their site is still up:

>Their Enterprise design, however, was awful.
see

Is there confirmation that his series isn't a adaptation of this? I mean with all the effort that went in to this why wouldn't you put it to use and make some money?

I dont think this is all that bad, really.

Not suitable for an Enterprise. But might work as a specialty science vessel

Porn isn't good unless there is penetration.

What about a ship manned by entirely by characters played by Jeffrey Combs?

Meh, Starcraft Battlecruiser ripoff

The best episodes are the creepy anomaly episodes and the ones where two implacable enemies have to work together.

keeping with tradition and making me choose between Trekkie waifus

>it's the same butthurt manchildren that hate on JJ's movies
> he liked nuTrek

How does it feel to be retarded?

Nemesis did poorly commercially and critically so they're scared to do anything that even looks remotely like it. Meanwhile everyone's got nostalgia for TOS so they keep on trying to jump on the nostalgia bandwagon.

>discovery and Boldly Going Where No Man Has Gone Before.

I'd be all for a new Trek show about this but since this is a pre/interquel I can't help but feel like Discovery is going to have them discover shit we've seen before in older Trek series.

It's a much better version of anything TOS spewed out

>More prequel shenanigans
I am so sick of prequels.

>I mean technically it killed Data

That honestly just seemed like they added it in cause Brent was sick of playing him and wanted a way out. Which just makes the whole thing even worse I think. Like what's the logic behind Data deciding to beam in without a word, beam Picard out, and blow up the ship with him on it again? I thought his whole thing was he's just as much of a person as anyone else but from I remember that just seemed "Oh I'm just a robot so it doesn't matter if I die or not." But I haven't seen Nemesis since it was new.

>liking nutrek

I'm sorry that all you need are explosions and flashing pew pew lasers to get some entertainment out of something.

>movies are bad cause lens flares xD

It's bad because you can reskin the names and designs to something else while still keeping the plot exactly the same and you could not tell it was trek at all. It probably would have been better that way, at least it'd be a new IP instead of slapping an older one onto a script for only brand recognition.

Its possible to get a pretty good idea that something might or might not be to your liking through trailers, leaked images, and interviews. And there have been PLENTY of material surfacing from STD to base an opinion on.

Wow, it's almost as if they went in a very different direction because the previous Star Trek movies were embarrassingly bad.

>That honestly just seemed like they added it in cause Brent was sick of playing him and wanted a way out.

I've read it was more a case of Brent getting too old to play an unaging android for much longer. He probably figured he wanted the character to go out on a "high" note rather than be ruined by whoever replaced him.

The previous Trek movies didn't feel like Trek either.

> make something obviously not Star trek and call it Star trek
> why don't fans like it???

Isn't that just the plot of Andromeda?

Ironically Enterprise is the only show still in cannon for movie Trek

Not to argue with you, but I think DS9 proved that a Trek series can stray from the Rodenberry all-exploration-and-unrelenting-optimism-all-the-time formula and still be good.

Thanks, sword!

Its easy. You can get whole seasons out of revisiting trek standvys rather than having to do the unspeakably hard work of coming up with something new.

With a prequel series, they can browse the wiki and pick something that looks cool.

"Exactly this, but FOR THE FIRST TIME!" They say, and then they break for lunch because most of the episide just wrote itself.

I do like that version. Too bad the creative team felt otherwise:
>It was generally considered to be a little too Battlestar Galactica.
So they went with a Starcraft look instead.

It does look a bit like a precursor to the Enterprise-J

The Long Night has come.

Honestly, I'd rather have a continuation of the TNG/Nemesis storyline where we finally get either full on war or unsteady peace with Romulans (since they spent the entire St franchise teasing it), or a series set in TMP era, marrying that aesthetic with the episodic formula. Do like the animated series did and get away with more aliens and more nonhumanoid aliens because you can draw it. In the former, check up on the immortal Data, long-lived Worf, or middle aged Paris or Seven or Ezri for an episode or mini arc. Maybe even have a standard crew member be an older Bashir or something. For the later, explore a 100 year window of unexplored ideas.

Also pretend ENT didn't happen, since ENT spent so much time rewriting history it can get fucked.

Enemies becoming temporary allies is one of my favorite tropes, I fucking love it.
