PUNISHER STORYTIME

PUNISHER STORYTIME

All this year I'll be storytiming Punisher comics. Most of the focus will be on pre-Ennis era material, but there'll be a few Ennis era stories at some point. There's also a possibility that I might post some post-Ennis era material, but don't count on it. Expect at least 1 storytime per week.

Earlier this week I posted the graphic novel The Punisher - No Escape (which can still be read right here: ) where The Punisher teams-up with and/or fights U.S.Agent and Paladin (whatever happened to him?). It was pretty cool and filled with "youse guys" style mafia movie dialog and old school Marvel action sequences. It represented that EARLY 90s period of Marvel when they were pushing "NOT YOUR GRANPAPPY'S SUPERHERO!" characters like U.S.Agent, and Paladin... and of course The Punisher... but BEFORE they actually went full EDGY. In that sense it's actually very old school traditional superhero comics, stylistically speaking.

Today's storytime is a bit different. Despite releasing not long after No Escape, it's much more typical of early 90s Marvel. Not quite "XTREME!", but definitely "90s antihero".

But don't worry! It's actually pretty fucking entertaining, with serviceable scripting and some solid artwork.

I'm talking about Marvel's crossover between their then 3 most popular non-Spider-Man characters: The Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Wolverine, who not-at-all-coincidentally happen to be Marvel's big 3 "EDGY" antiheroes of the 90s.

These characters were SO popular at the time that they actually got 2 team-up one-shots, Heart of Darkness, and The Dark Design, both of which I'll be posting. The first has art by prime John Romita Jr., which is fucking FANTASTIC. JRjr might be the single most underrated Punisher artist ever, and the whole book just looks fucking gorgeous.

So let's get this show on the road.

Those early Warzone issues are so good.

BUMP IF YOU'RE READING

Also, unlike most 90s Punisher comics, both of these actually got quality/digital rips! So this shit looks NICE.

This issue has a quadruple-sized foldout cover that is just absolutely MASSIVE, and that unfortunately, due to these being high resolution images, is WAY to large of a file size to be able to get to post, so you'll just have to download the full issue if you want to see the full cover.

Also, I realize I made a typo. It's obviously HEARTS of Darkness, not HEART of Darkness.

Fun fact: These 3, along with Spider-Man, were Walt Simonson's originally planned "New Fantastic Four" before Marvel editorial forced him to use Hulk in The Punisher's place.

...

...

>before Marvel editorial forced him to use Hulk in The Punisher's place.

I thought it was that Art Adams wanted to draw The Hulk more than The Punisher

...

...

He might have, but apparently the brass didn't want The Punisher cameoing because reasons.

No problem.

Bump

The next page is identical to this: so I can't post it because it says it's a duplicate image, so I'm just skipping to the next image which is the back cover here.

If you want to see the full quadruple-wide wraparound cover, you can download the full issue here:

Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Punisher Heart of Darkness (1991) [re-edit] (Bchry-DCP).cbz
www102.zippyshare.com/v/DazKUdrm/file.html

I need to get the next issue ready, so keep the thread bumped and I'll be back in like 10 minutes.

This is the 2nd of the 2 "The Punisher meets Ghost Rider meets Wolverine" crossover/team-up one-shots, entitled "The Dark Design".

This one's from a few years after the original, so it's even more 90s flavored, but it's still pretty cool.

The script is still by Howard Mackie, who also wrote Hearts of Darkness, but the art this time around is by Ron Garney, who I think might have been on Ghost Rider at the time?

Anyway, let's read this bitch.

Sorry about the delay. As much as I HATE doing this, I had to resize this page to get it to post. If you want to see the full version, just download the issue, which I'll post a link for at the end of the storytime.

Cool page

Had to resize this one as well. And again, you can see the full sized version by downloading the issue at the end of the storytime.
