>The Captain Marvel solo film has gotten a new screenwriter. Few of Marvel Studios’ upcoming titles are facing the same kind of expectations that Captain Marvel is. After all, not only will the film finally bring fan-favorite Carol Danvers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, but it will also be the first female superhero-led Marvel Studios movie. Similar to next year’s Black Panther, the solo film will have to both pay the appropriate amount of respect to a long-awaited comic book character and be another successful step forward in diversifying the lineup of characters/franchises in the MCU.

>Fortunately, the Captain Marvel project is off to a good start so far, beginning with the casting of Brie Larson as Carol Danvers during Marvel’s Hall H presentation at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Earlier this year, the studio finally nailed down more of the project’s creative team with the hiring of filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden as the Captain Marvel directors. After proving themselves with critically-acclaimed indie titles like Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind, this will be the duo’s first foray into the blockbuster world.

>first female superhero-led Marvel Studios movie.
Xaptain marvel is trans.

Marvel movies have writers?

>However, Captain Marvel has just undergone some unexpected behind-the-scenes creative changes. Deadline is reporting that screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet has officially been hired to write the script for the Marvel film. She will be replacing original screenwriters Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out). There’s no telling how this may or may not affect the film’s development process, but as of right now, Captain Marvel is expected to begin filming sometime in February of next year.
>Originally, LeFauve and Perlman had been hired to co-write the script for Captain Marvel, but LeFauve eventually had to leave the project in order to co-direct Disney Animation’s Gigantic. However, as far as fans were concerned, it looked as though Marvel was still moving forward with a script at least written by Perlman, who has had a positive work relationship with the studio, dating back to her original work on the first Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s certainly possible that one of Perlman’s other commitments (she’s also working on the Detective Pikachu movie) led to her stepping away from Captain Marvel too, or that Marvel decided to go in a different direction than what LeFauve and Perlman had in mind.

>Either way, this is another big get for Robertson-Dworet – a screenwriter who has been on the receiving end of some very high-profile jobs as of late. Not only is she the writer behind Warner Bros.’ upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, but she’s also currently set to write the script for DC’s Gotham City Sirens, which will be directed by David Ayer and feature the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Based on that resume alone, in addition to Marvel’s penchant for working with solid writers and directors, Robertson-Dworet’s hiring should (hopefully) only mean good things for Captain Marvel moving forward.

Where is the panic a la DCEU movies?

>Robertson-Dworet
Oh wow she has not done anything it looks like. Not exactly the best sign. Hopefully the other two have left at least something for her to work with since I really liked the movies they worked on.

There's too much indifference to feel anything at all.

>omg my favorites!
Shill pls

The MCU isn't on the brink of destruction.

good god, they reeally have no idea what to do with her. this could be mcu's first flop.

Because it was born dead, duh.

Variety says it's just 'the latest draft'. Probably working with the newly hired directors, since Perlman and LeFauve are both in demand and busy.

Sounds like the script wasn't good enough and the other writers bowing out means they needed someone to come in and stay during production. Still have to wait until trailers come out and early screenings.

>People caring about Carol.

A rewrite early in production like this isn't the same as one at the last minute during filming.

>fan-favorite Carol Danvers

Marvel, you don't have enough meme magic to make Carol happen.

>fan-favorite Carol Danvers

>fan-favorite Carol Danvers
The character that can't even sell 16k per month? This fan favorite?

The MCU is established enough by now that a bad movie isn't going to sink the whole thing.

Other than Wonder Woman, all of the DCEU movies have been at best divisive.

>another bad movie
Fixed.

So this is what fake news and propaganda feels like.

As long as Disney wants dem china bucks? Not likely.

>first female superhero-led Marvel Studios movie

Ant-Man and THE WASP

eh...so it's at worst a bit of a rerewite and at best just finishing off the script.

Nothing to see here.

This is a rewrite before filming.

That's not the same as JL being completely reshuffled and reshot to shit a few months before release.

Captain Marvel should be 120 minutes of Carol brutally beating the shit out of Skrulls and Kree.

MIDF to the rescue!

> The directors coming in plus Perlman and Meg being busy is probably behind the change.

> Might also be due to Disney wanting the film to emulate Wonder Woman.

The MCU can make even obscure characters popular, as proven by GotG, which many predicted would flop.

They made characters like Iron Man and Scarlet Witch popular again, after the comics division utterly ruined them.

Carol could be a problem though because the temptation to make her a Mary Sue post-Wonder Woman may prove too strong.

Basically experienced in making character driven films, which is what Feige goes for.

>fan-favorite Carol Danvers
Dat biased narrative.

>The MCU can make even obscure characters popular, as proven by GotG
lol

I wonder if Perlman getting replaced will affect the Richard Rider rumors or not.

What are they going to do now? They said they were going to change her story because they were embarrassed at how the character is a ripoff of Green Lantern,
screenrant.com/captain-marvel-movie-origins-green-lantern/

Will they go back to being a rip off of Green Lantern? Will they ever make a Nova/Nova Corps movie if they make her like Green Lantern?

>The MCU can make even obscure characters popular, as proven by GotG
Popular maybe, but not marketable. How is the Guardians cartoon doing? How is the Guardians comic doing? How are those toy sales? Video games? Oh yeah they got shoved into Marvel vs Capcom. How many people are excited to play as Gamora?

Marvel Studios has the greatest combination of critical and financial success relative to the number of movies produced of any movie studio created after the 1930s. Better than Pixar and Lucas Film before the prequels and more efficient at making movies as well. Only James Cameron as a director is in the conversation as being at a similar level from a similar time period and without having had a decline, but he isn't as prolific in production. Marvel is making at least a hit per year now.

>How is the Guardians cartoon doing? How is the Guardians comic doing?

Those two don't matter, they make NO MONEY. They exist to drive toy and movie sales.

How are those toy sales?
HUGE! Merch for GotG is huge now. It's a whole market that never existed before. No one bought Groot toys or merch before, now you see it everwhere

Then why don't you go to /toy/ ?

cause I don't buy toys. but just cause I don't doesn't mean others don't.

Don't tell me you think Spider Man is Marvel's huge cash cow because he sells comics? You are fucking stupid then. he is big money cause he sells merch and toys, that is all.

>HUGE! Merch for GotG is huge now.
Yeah? Prove it.
>now you see it everwhere
Because no one is buying them.

>the same woman is writing Marvel and DC female-centric films

Nobody seemed to care when the movie kept going through potential directors and kept getting pushed back. I'm more than willing to blame shitposters poking at the DCEU rather than shills. MCU has been successful yet mediocre for almost a decade so it's hard to really bash them when things work out for them.

Look at Ant-Man, a lot of anons will point to that nightmarish production and how well (yet again mediocre) the movie came out.

Didn't Wonder Woman get a reshuffle before the filming and ended up the best of DC's recent films?

How? He is literally Fu Manchu's kid.

>She will be replacing original screenwriters Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out).
Literally why? Perlman is probably the best writer they have.

They're busy. It's not like they're starting over from scratch.

>Perlman is probably the best writer they have.
Fucking how?

Sam Jackson said no one has contacted him at all about doing Capt Marvel

Unironically this.

I want to see the inevitably fanart of Carol violently beating up Wonder Woman. Because abuse is my fetish.

He said that before SDCC, when Kevin Feige announced it.

hes very bitchy lately

>IT'S THE FIRST FEMALE-LEAD...
Supergirl, Catwom...
>It's the FIRST MARVEL FEMAL-
Elektr...
>Fuck

Isn't Wasp a co-lead in Ant-Man and the Wasp?

She got replaced in GotG by Gunn so this is nothing new for her.

She still works with Marvel and she's still the reason they went with GotG in the first place.

Carol's origin is nothing like GL. I forgot if Feige or Perlman said that but it was a stupid comment.

That said Perlman, Markus and Mcfeely like Rich, they don't have the F4 rights so they don't have as many cosmic characters and they need to use the ones that they do have the rights to, Nova corps is already established, Marvel Studios want to expand cosmic, it's obvious they'll do Nova at some point.

Besides Green Lantern 2.0 was a blatant Lensman ripoff so people can't complain about Nova being a GL ripoff when everything after Alan Scott was a ripoff. Not to mention the GL movie flopped so badly that Marvel can step up and do Nova movie before the GL corps movie is even a thing.

Or just kill the Nova corps and focus on Rich as the last Nova which was the status quo for the Nova franchise most of the time (the corps got wiped out like what? three times?).

Elektra was made by a different company

The cartoon is shit and it has low ratings, so low the third season is a promotion for the Disney California ride.

So low that a person working for the cartoon begged people on tumblr to watch it.

>wants to be in Black Panther for no real reason other than it being the black movie

Yes and technically she's the first female lead for Marvel Studio's but Carol needs something to make her special now that Wonder Woman set a pretty high bar in the normies' eyes.

She is combat-loving military woman that drinks a lot and sits in chairs with her legs in a dominant position. Also is mother surrogate for a creepy spider person.

Kek.
The lies they have to throw out there

Phase 3 solo movies were partly about fatherhood.

Civil War- Zemo split the Avengers a part after the death of his family in Sokovia.

Doctor Strange- Kaecilius (?) started worshipping Dormammu after the death of his family, believing that all life should be eternal.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2- Ego was a homicidal Celestial who killed Meredith and used Peter.

Spider-Man: Homecoming- Adrian was a baddie who needed to provide for his family. Tony acts like Peter's surrogate father

Black Panther- T'Challa becomes the king and must honor his father's legacy.

Thor Ragnarok-Thor will be looking for Odin, his father in

Infinity War- Thanos, the father of Gamora and Nebula, is wrecking havoc.

Possibly, Phase 4 solo movies will be partly about motherhood.

>Janet comes back from the Quantum Realm
>Tchaka will probably let his mother become ruler so he can focus more on being the Black Panther

>Possibly, Phase 4 solo movies will be partly about motherhood.

You're stretching harder than plastic man there chum. You can find themes on anything as long as you use the right buzzwords.

FAKE NEWS

Nobody actually cares about (((Captain Marvel)))

Originally, the series consisted of the four novels Galactic Patrol, Gray Lensman, Second Stage Lensmen, and Children of the Lens, published between 1937 and 1948 in the magazine Astounding Stories.[2]:40 In 1948, at the suggestion of Lloyd Arthur Eshbach (publisher of the original editions of the Lensman books as part of the Fantasy Press imprint), Smith rewrote his 1934 story Triplanetary to fit in with the Lensman series. First Lensman was written in 1950 to act as a link between Triplanetary and Galactic Patrol and finally, in the years up to 1954, Smith revised the rest of the series to remove inconsistencies between the original Lensman chronology and Triplanetary.

Marvel can't even deliver one best selling Carol run and they think they can make a movie about her that will bring in hundreds of millions of dollars.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_leader

They're getting more omnibuses printed for release after the movie as we speak.

Is Captain America the only one of the movie Avengers that knows enough about mothers to recognize her behaviors are irregular when she gets impregnated?

The Comics/TV and Movies are different departments managed by different people.

So, the comics inability to produce good Captain Marvel content does not affect the movie's potential quality in the least.

>fan-favorite Carol Danvers

Who's actually going to buy those?
Unlike the previous films, the movie people don't even have any good stories to draw from. The most memorable Carol stories are the ones where she gives birth to her rapist and the one where Rogue steals her powers and memories, and they can't do either for obvious reasons.

GotG wasn't based on Annihilation like at all

>movies
>actually adapting the comics
Good joke there.

>Civil War comic is wildly regarded as a shitfest
>Civil War movie got critical acclaim and surpassed the billion dollar mark
wew lad I too wonder how Marvel Studios will deal with the comics being shit.

Guy has been angry black man for 30 years in a bunch of movies. Sometimes he wants to work with a black director every once in a while.

they are just taking one of mar-vell's. female empowerment!

Dying of cancer?

A lot of people on the internet may hate it, but Civil War was a best-selling event and sent Millar's career into the stratosphere.

one can hope.

They already did that in KSD's run.

And then they wiped her memory. Again.

Doesn't change the fact it was shit.

You could pull some weird shit with this. Abducted by aliens and screwed with your memories so much that you don't know if the world you are in is real.

Good. I want to see aliens screw Brie Larsson.

>good god, they reeally have no idea what to do with her.

Not really. It's fairly normal for Hollywood to bring in a new writer whenever they want another draft, rather than send it back to the writer who did the earlier one. The first X-Men went through more than two-dozen drafts by several writers.

>Veranke knocks up Carol and she's spent the last decade raising Teddy
