Gaslighting and Using the Left's Own Buzzwords Against Them

>Gaslighting
It's the kind of word that someone will throw around just to explain what it means to the 2 out of 5 people who have never heard it before. I have found that it is used primarily by the left wing. This is for a few reasons
>The left loves popular psychology
>The left is obsessed with victimhood. Victims don't have opponents, they have abusers.
It's one thing to accuse someone of lying or misrepresenting reality, but if you slap the pop-psy label on it, a deliberate scheme to drive everyone insane with uncertainty. The paranoia of this notion is comparable to that of gang stalking. I found this word used in a breitbart article but other than that, it is most often used and was brought into the political vocabulary by the left, particularly feminists, which is unsurprising because you couldn't design a more hysterical group of people.
The term was coined by Florence Rush who was popular for her writing on the sexual abuse of children. Given her membership of Marxist feminist organizations NYRF and NOW, it's safe to assume the injection of the term into the political sphere can probably be attributed to radical leftists.

I hate the word. I think it's stupid and the suspicion that mike pence did anything more than dodge a topic is pathological

"Gaslighting" needs to die a swift death, as do all buzzwords that are inflicted on our political discourse by critical theorists.
The best way to do this is to co-opt the term and use it frequently in attacking the left, feminism, social justice.
>I'm gender fluid
You're gaslighting
>Women get paid less than men for the same work
gaslighting
>Hillary's emails aren't a big deal
gaslighting
>Trump said all Mexicans are rapists
gaslighting
>Terrorism has nothing to do with Islam
gaslighting
>ect ect
Do this every time they say something that is inconsistent with reality. Eventually the word will mean nothing and people will stop thinking they are smart for using it.

Thoughts?

I like it

Good, good. I kinda like this 'fight fire with fire' strategy. We can exploit a lot of their buzzwords, I think.
>False equivalence.
Note that I don't mean it's a buzzword itself, but the way the left uses it is as a one-stop solution to shut down any analogy that threatens their views, without bothering to explain how the analogy is invalid in terms of corresponding structure in any way. Throw it back at them, with the added bonus that their analogies actually are invalid.
>BLM is like the Civil Rights movement
False Equivalence.
>Abortion is like the government being allowed to hook [important person] up to your body as life support.
False Equivalence.
And so on in that fashion.

And remember, the left defines "empathy" as agreeing with someone, not realizing that it just means understanding their motives and feelings without being obligated to recognize them as valid. Turn the tables, any time they disagree with someone, they're goddamn sociopaths who have no empathy.

gaslighting

>Gaslighting
based off of the definition, I believe my wife has been gas lighting me for years.
>You said you'd mow the law (like fuck I did)
>You put my keys on the counter (I never touched them!)
>How can you forget that we have 3 birthday parties to go to this weekend?!?

At some point I just gave up and relied on her memory of events more than my own.

this tbqh

Could be.

Or you could just never pay attention to a word she says

Sorry to be the one to break this to you, but your wife is a misogynist.

>Gaslighting" needs to die a swift death

Just go back to calling people Pence a lying bullshitter

I actually have used gaslighting in arguments, and without fail it will make an irrational leftist lose their shit.

That's what I'm saying.....

>gaslighting this hard

I do this all the time

10/10 OP

This will be extremely effective on influence-prone normies. It'd be amplified enormously if it were "started" by someone in a respectable position of authority.
The targets are the same gullible fags that'd take cyanide pills for their fevers if the doctor told them too.

>PR/Communication specialist

>The media catches on
>Suddenly the left has 'never before heard this term'
> "Our best reporters say it comes from how the alt-right wants to 'light the gas', in reference to the holocaust"
Br huehuehue

>shitposting this close to reality

dangerous waters m8

still kek'ed

...

>inb4 cucked, divorced and thrown out of his house

Yeah, use the term against them, the Clintons are expert gaslighters.
>smoke pot
But I didn't inhale
>fuck white house intern
I didn't have sexual relations with that woman; its a vast right wing conspiracy
>use private server
No, well yeah but it was only for yoga, the FBI said I didnu nuffin, you are crazy for thinking I broke the law.

If she wins the election its over, half the US population will be under the spell of relative reality, where truth is decided by Clinton and her three letter government agency.

This. They've been stealing our memes for too long. It's time that we fuck with theirs. If Pepe can be turned into a "white supremacist meme", anything can.

>I just gave up and relied on her memory of events more than my own.
That's usually the end-goal of gaslighting.

You're wife is kinda gay tho

>Sup Forums controls the memes of production
>its all labor of the anonymous users regardless of wealth or status of the user
>from each user according to his memeablities
>mfw we are socialist entity

gaslighting is where you make people think they are going crazy

>>ctr directive

>Sup Forums proves communism can work but only if all anons are equal and there is no central power structure for jews to take over and use against the We, The Pepes

What is the plan then cuz I live for memes they fuel me

>we were wrong about Marx all along, he just didn't posses the foresight to see that the global revolution would come in the form of memes

They fuel everything

>Etymology

The 1938 stage play Gas Light, known as Angel Street in the United States, and the film adaptations released in 1940 and 1944 motivated the origin of the term because of the systematic psychological manipulation used by the main character on a victim. The plot concerns a husband who attempts to convince his wife and others that she is insane by manipulating small elements of their environment, and subsequently insisting that she is mistaken, remembering things incorrectly, or delusional when she points out these changes. The original title stems from the dimming of the gas lights in the house that happened when the husband was using the gas lights in the attic while searching for hidden treasure. The wife accurately notices the dimming lights and discusses the phenomenon, but the husband insists she just imagined a change in the level of illumination.

The term "gaslighting" has been used colloquially since the 1960s[5] to describe efforts to manipulate someone's sense of reality. In a 1980 book on child sexual abuse, Florence Rush summarized George Cukor's 1944 film version of Gas Light, and writes, "even today the word [gaslighting] is used to describe an attempt to destroy another's perception of reality."[6]
