We are running our 4th hyw challenge!

>THEME: Magic

>GENRE: (choose one to play around alongside the theme!)
>Lava
>Urban Fantasy
>Inventors

>DEADLINE: August 31

Remember that you can play with the theme as you see fit, we want to see how creative you can get!

Oh I see what you're saying. I don't mean in drawing technique, I mean in the design of the characters themselves.

How about now?

I guess I just feel like the design differences are only what you would expect from character to character

also what this is you too? okay, THIS looks like a different comic's style.

Hahaha what, what did we just do

okay I'm looking at this again, and..... I think her torso is a tidbit long. It's hard to say for sure, but I'm imagining her hand down at her side and it doesn't go 1/3rd of the way down her thigh. Maybe if you shortened her torso, you'd have more space for leg. I'm mentally counting her ribs and it seems like she has too many. There's almost as much space from her vag to her mid-torso hourglass-waist as there is from said waist to the bottom of her tits, so that leaves even more torso above that.

I get it now. Thread transition. We both linked our posts from the other thread. I just duplicated my post from that thread to this one so it appears in two places at once.

Yeah. It's tough working it out since we're dealing in mm adjustments. It's just enough that even I can notice but exactly what to fix is a bit tough.

In any case right now, nobody would complain. Just as long as you fix her eyes.

>work on update all night
>finish it in wee hours
>upload it and sleep
>wake up and check stats
>1 view
>it's me

And now?

This is my daily nightmare. It's worse when its' something you're actually proud of.

Pick related. Not even a batted eyelash.

Note that I am not the guy who does Devil Candy, this was just fanart I did of it.

I no longer see any flaws. It still might look a little weird because of the hip armor hanging so low, and its 'belt' being at crotch level. Like that might create an illusion of bad proportioning.
so yeah just.. just the eyes now.

wait, are you gonna tell me at your level you don't get attention and views? that's.... depressing.

why live

>do nothing comic related in an entire year
>don't update and sleep
>wake up and check stats
>1000 views
I feel bad...

Nope. Not all the time. Some stuff gets attention, like, people really seem to like my Beetlejuice comics. But my illustrations don't do it for anyone. Maybe they're just boring. I mean, they are technically competent but maybe they lack qualities that draw people to them.

If I knew what it was specifically I could target it, but I don't really know.

I think you must not be advertising yourself properly.

The ability to sell yourself, the knowledge how and where to do it is more important than the actual drawing skills.

Send the link, I'll gladly read it

nevertheless, you'd think if you were as good as this guy, you'd at least have a head start and that head start could snowball without investing a lot into selfpromotion

>don't know what kind of comic i should be making
>don't draw that much anymore
I feel like i'm standing in a crossroads, no idea how i should proceed from now on. I can feel myself slipping, please send help

Possibly. I'm posting on DA, tumblr, twitter, instagram, pixiv and facebook.

However, I also work full time and live in Hawaii (the worst time zone) and am pretty sure I'm posting at bad times.

I also am not posting frequently enough either. I'm not doing anything that I should expect to be blowing up or anything. And I do gain a couple of people for every decent post that I make so it's not completely hopeless.

I understand that more popular artists are putting out a lot of work consistently and that they built their audience over time. Unless they are super good painters who draw trendy stuff then they usually catch fire.

What's your least favorite kind of comic to do?
do the opposite

what comic artist/mangaka do you imitate /hyw/?

Currently I have a problem in which I have a character, but have no idea on what kind of story to stick it in...
any advice /hyw/?

Pic related is the character

What's the opposite to bad political cartoons?

She looks cute. Are you going to enter her in the /hyw/ contest? We can have a magical girl fight!

You're talented. Stick with it. If me and my artist can get around 100 something views a week on our webcomic you can to.

If you want to review something I'm interested in feedback for the Metal Animals lore I wrote up. Would you be interested in looking at that?

Neat design. Maybe put him in some kind of Mouse Guard/Red Wall/Mice Templar/Rescuers setting but with insects instead of mice?

Do a comfy bug story. We all need more bug stories, maybe the bug going on a quest.

That's what I was thinking as well. Have the bug go on adventure. Make it classic and comfy like Chronicles of Prydain.

It's just some lewds of a character from a Nick show premiering in a week.

Not going to lie, it doesn't look great. I like magical girl stuff, but flash, man, ugh... it's hard to like that stuff...

Shigesato Itoi is one for sure. and Charles Schultz
also Risa Itou, though that involves time travel shenanigoats as I hadn't seen Ebichu until after comic was designed already

fucking kawaii. I'd like to see him go on a cute little adventure that is somewhat accurate to a bug's real life. Like he's obviously a very virile and mature male, he should go hornfight with other males and win the heart of a cute lady kabuto beetle.
imagine how cute they would be snuggling cute little giant beetle grubs in their arms

Something longform, with a lot of subtlety, that gets messages across via the story instead of by just saying them outright
Ima just say what I said about Monster High. gateway drug. we need to slowly wean girls onto cool entertainment media. This is a steppingstone.

also one more because I just like posting mildly lewd Ebichu scenes.

I am working on updating a character design and thought about doing a gag comic about the process...

Can't disagree with that. The only thing worse than these flash shows to me are the channel schedules. Like, there are lots of great cartoons. Why are they airing Teen Titans Go 23 hours a day?

lordy loo I like the way you draw ladies. You need to be making monstergirl type comics. You'll get all the attentch!
Really gotta watch out for those uneven eyes though.

Pic related is the girl being redesigned.

It's true. These are mostly sketches so I don't worry about it too much but uneven faces and huge heads are my bane right now.

whoa, heavier than I expected
Just how many projects do you juggle?

...

Oh this is from a comic tournament that ended earlier this year.

I'm currently working on running the sequel tournament. Right now I have no real projects other than trying to come up with little short comics to draw to build up some kind of library. That's mostly what the short Beetlejuice comics have been about.

I also did a couple for Inspector Gadget, and one for that Boku No Hero OC trend that was going around.

what do you study. tell me everything

you'll never get there, don't bother

Thanks for the feedback!, originally I had something in mind of something like Samurai Jack, in which I could stick him in any kind of situation...but with that I wasnt sure where to start.

Also, something I need to ask; how do you know hes an insect? Hes a beetle but I never told you so, how did knew hes an insect?

i'll get there in a month just tell me how

I liked your Inspector Gadget comics, the one with the M.A.D agent was hilarious

your OC's quirk was pretty cool, but I haven't finished reading that

Honestly? It depends on what you like to draw. I study artists I like and their techniques and linework. I emulate it and learn what I can, incorporate what I need and discard the rest.

I follow and study A LOT of hentai artists because they draw the cutest girls (of course)

For comics I study manga and European comics because they tend to have the most diversity. American independent comics are getting there though.

It's all about consuming as much media that you can learn from as possible. If it interests you, grab comics about it and try to figure out the mechanics of what the artist is doing.

And then practice. Forever.

It's just the three pages.

Qurik: switch

...

>How did you know he's an insect?

He looks like a beetle, especially with that giant horn.

>I wasn't sure where to start

You could do a classic "goes on a journey and recruits a band of interesting friends along the way" story. It's worked for The Last Unicorn and The Hobbit. The cartoony insect look would allow you to play around with character concepts in fun ways. You could have a group of tiny ants that all have the same name and can't tell each other apart. You could have a vain moth princess that insists that she's a butterfly thank you very much, a stickbug whose an expert fencer (because good luck trying to stab a line) stuff like that.

Go high adventure in the insect kingdom. Call it High Adventure in Low Places or something like that.

Wanted to do a Virtual Boy styled Urchin, test for a scene in a future comic!

>Also, something I need to ask; how do you know hes an insect? Hes a beetle but I never told you so, how did knew hes an insect?

As far as I know only beetles have those kind of horns. And he is blue, which is a very beetle color (that beetle from Bug's Life, Heracross, etc)

I want to imitate Hitoshi Ariga but it's hard.

Is anyone here good at drawing metal textures? How did you learn? Online guides rarely focus on the details I nees help on. It's usually just posing and whatnot.

A photoshop test.

With your skills you can just apply to hiveworks, they'll handle the framework that gets you views. Just a suggestion...

Togashi and ONE except their drawings are better :^)

...

When will they learn?

I wish I had a workstation. My back hurts.

Respects to you, dude.

Thanks. I feel like the last couple of weeks have been the most productive time for me, creativly. Made me realize that I need to start applying the ideas I have instead of just endlessly spinning them around in my head.

> start applying the ideas I have instead of just endlessly spinning them around in my head.
Fuck, same! I really need this too.

Saffron and Sage 33.

The girls on the posters are Pandora from Comicide, Jill from Legend of the Hare, and Diana from Rex Rangers

That's some RADICAL coloring my dude...

I like how these threads are comfy in tone. Everybody making stuff, everything's chill.

>Well you're going to have to make your own, for your own characters.
>first time drawing
That explains a lot. You've got a lot of practicing and brainstorming to do before you can just DO it and expect it to have any rhyme or reason. There are certainly guidelines for making good looking characters though. Things like the proportion and distance of the facial features, that sort of thing. Why don't you just show us what you can do right now?

But I don't want make new characters (not yet) I just want to learn how to draw these characters. I already try to use the typical circles and lines, but they still looking weird.

It has been quite comfy lately indeed, let's hope it remains the same

The secret has been not giving (You)s to you-guys-know-who when they show up

fuck

I know you wanna love but I just wanna fuck, and girl you know the deal I gotta keep it real

why doesn't she just switch the enemy with a rock 50 miles under the surface?

Thats why your a trash comic creator and he's not baka dumb hoe.

Here is my comic.

If you see something weird, point it out.

Is orange-haired character a girl?

yes.

She's cute, I need some rule 34 of her for research.

Kind of a weird question, but how much space you leave around the edge of the paper? For things like printing and paper getting trimmed? I also heard you can get blue line paper with the right dimensions on them. Do they come in various sizes as well? I'm thinking of using something like A3 or A2 for my comic pages before scanning them in to digitally finish them.

It depends of the printing. Usually they tell you to leave some space of 0.5 cm to avoid losing any important content

I have a comic idea that I am probably going to start seriously next year. I'm taking any advise into consideration in preparation for that.

Because it's not flashy. Which is her thing.

>I have a comic idea
Give us a peek.

Alright, /hyw/, I need a kick in the butt.

foxandcatadventures.tumblr.com/

Give me some shit and don't be nice about it. Criticize me - apart from the obvious stuff, of course. Tell me what does not work in my storytelling and the panels and all that.

I dunno, I like it. Sometimes values are not very distinct, so cat can badly fade into the wall.

This is snek monster. She's going to appear in my webcomic someday if it ever gets made.
I put a lot of thought into the biology of it even though it probably won't be relevant to the plot...

It seems writing that you want to violate a comic character can get you banned outside of Sup Forums.

What's with this sudden influx of excellent lolis and daughterus?
Has hyw finally acquired taste? Are the days of crude dickdrawings and ridiculous monstertits over? I sure hope so.

Well, according to US and some European law pic related is child pornography. In Australia, drawings are considered people. They have more rights than animals.

Lineralism has spun 180 degree and now furiously fights everything it once supported and opposed by the right - leaving us in the ridiculous situation that the left now want to ban porn in multiple capacities all over the world while conservative parties defend it.

Who doesn't like young nubile bodies?

>Kind of a weird question, but how much space you leave around the edge of the paper? For things like printing and paper getting trimmed?
The Bleed is usually 3-5mm all around the page size.

> I also heard you can get blue line paper with the right dimensions on them. Do they come in various sizes as well?
Yes, but most may be geared towards standard US comic sizes.

> I'm thinking of using something like A3 or A2 for my comic pages before scanning them in to digitally finish them.
A2 is going to be crazy huge; A3 would be about the largest you want to go. Depending on your scanner, A4 would be best.

Figure out what size you want to print at, and draw on paper that's a step up from that. Eg, print on A5, draw on A4. Though if you want to be sure to include Bleeds etc, draw in a B5 area on A4 paper.

I'm practicing these clearline-style faces, what do you think, guys?

that's some good shit. Make a whole body shot, man. Ligne claire is better when it's: colored, full scene.

It got a manara feel to it

iz that some Mandy?

I actually made a whole body shot of her, but it's far too lewd to show on this board.

spoiler that shit then, man!

>Virtual Boy

I sort of want an entire comic story done like a Virtual Boy game. It could be a story told through the perspective of a robot or a mech suit pilot.

>Blue is Beetle

And you got all the different Blue Beetle superheros.

Why is blue such a beetle color? Have there ever been any blue Kamen Riders?

Most people want to help each other and chill. We're social animals. Beyond a few dysfunctional people human groups are generally alright.

Isn't she a superhero? Telefragging isn't a go-to superhero move in a fight unless they're The Authority.

Teleporting others is such a cool power, especially when used to support teammates. Teleport them out of danger and teleport their opponents to set them up for attacks.

i have always wanted to do semi-realistic insect fantasy adventures just because they fit the archetypes so well. ants are totally gnomes, bees are elves, roaches are some kind of priests that dwell in the houses of the gods and pick up their artifacts.. beetles are clearly knight types.. and youd have some grasshopper hero, wielding a pin sword a roach sage gave him.. and it'd all be great.

Souds fun!
