Welcome back Anons! Last time, we started with Ewing's Mighty Avengers. Today, let's get through another chunk of the series, shall we?

>Valerio Schiti - Artist

Sweet, no more Land!

>that Captain America shirt

Freaking seriously?

Now I'm just getting Birds flashbacks, you know?

Man, Marvel just CAN'T decide what color Jessica's hair is. At least Marvel figured out Carol's a blonde, even if her hair STYLE is all over the place.

...

Remember this "Jessica doesn't like being with the Avengers" plot point from the end of Bendis's New Avengers?

>two Mighty Avengers storytimes
For what purpose?

>that Avengers Arena reference

Ewing being a continuity fan is a blessing AND a curse sometimes.

Ava, don't try and explain killing Mace to LUKE, of all people. He's TRIED killing the guy a bunch of times, he just KEEPS coming back.

I started before the other guy, user. At least yesterday.

I'm sure Marvel will have make sure to "reflect the real world" by having an angry leftist burn down a monument or something in an upcoming issue. Right?

He does it out of principle and having both the same storytimes done on the same day is accidental.

So he got strong enough to tank an attack for four minutes longer? God damn.

Jesus, look at that kid's face in the second panel.

Also, because unlike Fraction's Defenders, I LIKE this series enough to not quit when I get the chance.

Outlandish!

I always liked the idea of a person whose power was tied to history. It's a shame he's not around more.

>Dave Griffith
>The guy before Iron Fist

Yeah, that's basically the best way to explain him, Luke's original white best friend.

Notice he's just "Dave Griffith" now, and not "D.W. Griffith" like he was in the 70's, when naming a main character off a fairly famously racist director?

>"Well, there WAS that time you dropped by the Thunderbolts while I was on the can."

Yeah, that's why I never posted Blue Marvel's story when he fought Hyperion, because Luke wasn't in that issue.

Yeah, Ewing's basically the only one who used Vic once his creator left, although Ewing never really used his family.

>"You grew up in, what, the eighties?"

Sliding time is fun, isn't it? A character can grow up in a time after their stories were published.

I like the idea that Luke tries to practice these speeches that Cap can pull on the fly.

...

>not calling it the "Black Don't Crack" speech

Yeah, this bit is pretty damn good.

For those of you who weren't around back when I posted Luke's early stuff, Mace was basically Luke's only solo recurring villain.

Fraction Defenders was GOAT though

Mace is also known for killing Hector Alvarez's entire family once his identity was made public. So all those characters we knew and liked, back in Deadly Hands of Kung Fu?
Dead.
I have to see how they retconned Ava into it though.

It's kind of hard to make that speech to another black man, whereas there's really only one other man with unbreakable skin, since Marvel has basically retconned the 90's Cage series.

So basically, Ava was always there, she just wasn't around when we were reading?

Yeah, this whole "Tiger God" thing is kind of unique to Ava, since it never came up with the other two White Tigers we've seen.
Unless it was retconned into what posessed Hector back in Deadly Hands.

Eh, different strokes. I read that in the middle of a Doctor Strange marathon, so I still had Ditko and Stern's Stephen Strange fresh in my mind.

That comic was released in March of 1981.
Who here WAS born by then?

>Simba, you have forgotten me

Am I just sleep deprived, or does this guy look like basically like Colbert, but even MORE of a douche?

Good job Falcon, this guy's gonna be shitting himself every time he sees a pigeon for WEEKS.

Well shit, he folded quickly.

...

Ouch, Tiger God's a dick. Not enough to beat the shit out of the kid, gotta remind him he's never getting any?

I mean, technically Danny hasn't. I mean, he Iron Fist'd Ragnarok that one time, and fought Master Khan, who Kun L'un WORSHIPPED as a god, but that's about it, unless I'm forgetting something.

I think that kid just got his snu snu fetish.

And it looks like Mace doesn't have his Mace hand anymore, based on the fourth panel.

>"If Ava busts in here NOW?"
>next panel literally has her diving at the window

I mean, at least Jen's taking off the coat before hulking out. It's a nice coat, after all.

Yeah, the more time moves on, we end up with a LOT of things that can cut Luke Cage, like basically everything in the 90's series, those swords in the new series, and those dumb bullets in the Netflix series that I'm sure will get brought into the comics at some point.

I mean, can you blame him?

Oh, that's a neat trick.

He's never fought regular Thor or Loki?

I think they're implying the dragon of Kun L'un is a god, especially with that line about the cave.

>after everyone from Iron Fist to She-Hulk got taken out easily, Monica one-shots her

Yeah, there's a reason Monica's the one who got to move to Ultimates.

Good on the cops for actually showing up, at least.

I mean, she was the leader of the Avengers once upon a time.

>they even killed the pigeon

Man, they've given Shao-Lao no less than THREE different backstories at this point.

I don't believe so, no.

>Lawyertinued
Oof.

I mean, based on what SHIELD considers is acceptable holding cells for "Thanos-level threats", this may not be enough even for Ava.

I'm DEFINITELY going to have to do one big Avengers marathon eventually, huh? I just lose the motivation when I see how many franchises it exploded into with the birth of the MCU.

I guess I can't complain too much about expanding franchises to YOU, of all people, I suppose.

It will never NOT annoy me that it's GILLEN'S Young Avengers that everyone remembers, and not the original one.

Look, they can't all be "Same Bat-time, same Bat-Channel". Sometimes, you get a few duds.

...

I love Ewing's name text box gags, have I mentioned that yet?

...

...

And somehow, despite presumably making them himself, he's surprised that a Hulk can take them down.

There's an user who's gonna be doing all of Ewing's stuff, which means he'll EVENTUALLY get to Agent of Asgard, so read that when you can. It's actually good.

You know, unlike Fearless Defenders, which is being referenced in the first panel.

Time to bluff the fuck out of a god.

This is a freaking intimidate roll that Karla Sofen would be proud of.

That's the Thanos-level treatment? A fucking stretcher with some straps? Jesus, no wonder these guys keep escaping all the time.

Remember, the only reason this gambit works is because the Tiger God is convinced that there's no other Avatars.

Remember that for later White Tiger stories, in New Avengers.

This run really points out on how Marvel is trying to cash in on crossover events which makes everything looks worse. Nearly every arc or issue has a different crossover mention, either original sin or axis or fear itself.

I'm guessing the cell itself is the Thanos-level treatment, and the stretcher is because she's not doing to good after getting Monica'd.

>youtube.com/watch?v=SW0Q0IQydAg

No lie, he's literally just referencing Austin Powers right there.

Notice that the villain is basically talking like a teenaged brat?

Well, it's intentional.

Man, I just couldn't bring myself to give a damn about the Blue Marvel mini when I first read it. It's like every Superman sterotype, but played straight.

Man, not even Supes is that much of a square.

Yeah, clearly this guy hasn't actually TRIED doing this shit before.

Well... shit.

Last issue for today, Anons!

My bad...replace fear itself with "Time runs out". My brain can't even follow all the events...

Yeah, looks like they tied Ronin in with whatever it is he did.

We've reached the modern age of Marvel, where they do that shit all the time, yeah.
We're coming up on Original Sin, but unlike the other crossovers, the Original Sin issues are long as hell, and I just don't want to spend half a week on it.

Welp, he's not getting his security deposit back.

Yeah, shit kind of sucks for him.

Man, Blue Marvel did some WEIRD shit sometimes.

Seriously, look at these names. It's like I'm reading Atomic Robo!

And there you have it Anons. By this series's dating, Galactus first touched down in, at the very least, 1999.

Maybe once he has a teenage kid, he'll grow into it?

They happen so often, they really do just start blending together after a while.

Well... shit, that could've gone better.

And if YOU want to know what's happening in the background, read Kirby's Fantastic Four for yourself!

>the Fantastic Four will eventually have debuted post-9/11
wew

I'm pretty sure this is the last time Adrienne Brashear is mentioned in Marvel comics.

Nevermind, I looked it up. She appeared in Ultimates for a few issues, working at Project Pegasus before Thanos stomped the place.

I mean, that's close to it. 9/11 was only 2001, after all.

Jesus fucking christ, that makes me feel old.

Huh, so apparently if you super-charge a Hulk on Gamma Rays, they can fly and shoot energy blasts?

I know it's fairly well known that Greg Land traces porn, but has anyone ever tried sourcing the porn he traces? Like, who's post-sex hair is She-Hulk wearing right there?

...

And time for the big reveal...
