Trump of course

Does the sitting House house get to choose? Or does enough time pass that newly elected Representatives vote?

I think the new house gets sworn in around the same time as the new president so they'd have to act with the current class or there'd be a major crisis of government.

>major crisis of government
What does this look like?

They're in a bit of a pickle.

Most of em are on the take too so that means they would vote in Hillary, *but* the House is mostly republican owned and they would all be committing political suicide if they put the HIldebeast in rather than Trump.

buttFucked if they do buttfucked if they don't.

They pick (((((((what's right for the country)))))))

Not Trump

i just mean there'd be no president. so his duties would either be claimed by someone else or waived. if this were to actually happen both of those would mean basically the same thing since the one to claim them would be a powerful congressional usurper who would be the same person in power to convince everyone to waive the presidents duties.

it sounds a bit evil and tyrannical but at this point our government has been so ineffective for so long that usurper would only necessarily have to be benevolent. if they were malevolent they would simply want to maintain the status quo.

so basically it would be caesar or bust.

>Caeser
This isn't possible in the US, right? It would have to be a general or admiral for that to work.
You can't hold power unlawfully in this country and be benevolent.

They'd probably try and save face and slide Biden in.

Gives them someone that's been close to the seat of power and could be sold by the media as an acceptable alternative considering how much they've been dumping on Trump and how much of Hillary's own shit has splashed back on her.

No, its the sitting Congress.

House of Representatives is Country Club Establishment Republican controlled.

In the event of an Election Day tie, or the death of the President Elect, the House can appoint whoever they want as President

With the Establishment's hate of Trump, they might appoint Hillary, then she would "Owe" them, she has already shown a fondness for Pay to Play and returning favors, Republicans might think it would make them look Reasonable and Progressive, voters would toss them all out in the next election

More than likely they would appoint either Ryan/Romney or a Romney/Ryan

No matter what they do no one will be happy, perhaps they might go for Bush/Rubio or Kasich/Cruz

A tie would be fantastic, to watch regular people go insane when they discover this last 2 years and their vote meant nothing

I can just taste the tears

and then the entire congress would get primaries and tossed in 2018.

Their keys to power are their voting blocs.

No, it's the newly elected Congress that will be sworn in in January.

*primaried

Thats not what the 12th amendment says.

> and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President.

>yfw the house elects gary johnson

if the GOP donors get behind it.

they will.

Let me state this: the voting in this case is done by state, meaning each state in the house gets one vote. In this case, dems win.

Good discussion, folks. Thank you for an enlightening politics-only thread.

>What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 Electoral votes?

>If no candidate receives a majority of Electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most Electoral votes. Each state delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most Electoral votes. Each Senator would cast one vote for Vice President. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.

Checked. Pence eternal deadlock confirmed.
