JSA Storytime: Omega the Unknown

Good evening owls,

the end is approaching

so the goddamn nuclear comics take of the day was "the Nightwing book is okay whereas SE was a moral abomination because fascists aren't exactly Nazis and target individuals and not groups by birth"

People are reacting very, very well to the Starfire casting

Also the Nightwing elseworld was as mediocre as I thought it would be
At least McCarthy's art looks better than it did on Aquaman.

also I read Mage

Hello, Storyteller.

So... yeah, I'm calling it. Kobik is officially the worst Thunderbolts daughteru.

Link? Honestly I didn't really see any Nightwing bitching.

I love how it is pulling back concepts from Hero Discovered. Like any trilogy, going back to the beginning is a swell way of giving everything a sense of a fully realized narrative.

The thing is nobody cares about Dick.

Only Batfamilyfags and Dickfags do, and there are plenty of them annoyed at the elseworld. But other than a few dozen people, nobody really cares about the guy enough to throw a fit.

I saw people complaining when it was announced and when previews were posted but I don't know. The issue itself didn't really seem like a regime story. It's just a standard "should superpowers be allowed in these societies" thing.

tinyurl dot com slash y8y8ksht

It's not that it's bitching about Dick, it's someone who threw *the* biggest continual shitfit about SE now splitting the finest hair humanly possible for why this other book is OK

Edsel plates on the car

Inherently, or just because she's badly written? I feel like cosmic power source with an actual mind has potential vis-a-vis Karla and Zemo and the moonstones they've used. Also a literal kid is kinda interesting on Karla playing mom and how much of that is genuine, how much is psych manipulation and learned behaviour from her own abusive relationship with mother.

But Zub didn't even try to write that, and Spencer hasn't done good past Standoff for anyone other than Zemo.

That was cute. As was him trying to call out for Mirth.

And I love how goddamn calm and contemplative the atmosphere is. It really distinguishes itself from the rawness of the first, and the boldness of the second.

Helmut is the Wasp of Hydra. Mostly useless and mostly there for his boyfriend.

this is awesome

he's moe af

A friend was all "He's been Steve's Sexy Lamp all event, which is fine, but..."

God that's just fucking dumb. Wonder what their take is on Soviet or South American dictatorships pursuing racial oppression.

Because she is badly written. But then again this story was beyond worthless for the Thunderbolts in general.

Man the Secret Empire narration is annoying. Lots of telling, not a lot of showing.
How much time has passed in this event? Weeks, months? Every book seems to think it takes place at a different time.

hey is this /d/

He should/should've stabbed Steve in the back once it became apparent things were false. Because the IDEA is still there, and Helmut would burn everything for that. But I dropped SE a while back.

Omega is so moe, too

The best possible ending is "Kobik fixes everything and Zemo wakes up next to the Bolts and they look at each other and agree to never talk about the past few months again"

We've been /d/ since issue 2. BTW were all comics of this era this inundated with self-help stuff or is Omega particularly bad for it?

I'm choosing to include the ads because they're neat, but I think they're fairly standard fare

Because she's badly written, and because she's the cause of all this Secret Empire crap.

You're right though, the story between her and Karla is obvious and waiting to be told. Hell, Zub himself even implied that was gonna happen, but it really didn't. And now the opportunity has passed.

This T-Bolts has been a complete disaster.

...

>You're not Captain Marvel

implying

No, I'm glad you are. It's just not something I'm used to seeing, they're hilarious.

It hurt the T-Bolts as a book and as characters. Even Helmut. Especially Helmut actually.

What name will it be condemned under, a la Fightbolts, Waybolts etc?

the one good thing is that at least no LEGACY teasers have "versus the evil Baron Zemo!" in them

yet

>Gerberverse intensifies

I thought we already settled on Buckybolts

Zubbolts

so how bad is his UA?

Oh hey guys, look at that masked dude in the second panel

Has Zemo even done anything other than fawn after Steve? I liked the boarding school fic and all but I'd have traded that for him getting something functional to do.

Spencer's Zemo has been a step-up from Brubaker/Remender Zemo even if it's not the true fix we thought it would be.

nooo, that's why he's the Sexy Lamp. He's not even, IDK, conquering things for his man.

There is a deffo pattern in what they're marketing to 70s comics nerds here

Zub's UA is suffering from the same problem as his T-Bolts. Clunky dialogue and the only one he is bothering characterizing beyond cardboard cutout is Rogue, who is however showing no sign of a character arc.

The worst part of the book for me is how the team essentially sits around doing fuck all the entire run. This is how any given run of anything can fail immediately. A lack of direction is fucking lethal.

Zubolts seemed to catch on pretty quick.

Has he written solid non-capeshit? Hard to see why they brought him on at all if this is what he produces.

'Buckybolts' is also a fair title for the entire unfortunate era encompassing parts of SE Zub didn't get his hands on

Not really Sup Forums but a few people commenting on the release of English/French releases of Dungeon Meshi was fun today. A lot about how charming/comfy it is, and I have this great sense of anticipation because I know that manga gets fucking intense and what's laid down early ends up making some horrible knots for the characters. I can't wait for official releases to catch up.

It reminds me of having read the books when Game of Thrones just started airing? Trying to think of a Sup Forums example.

I suspect he's in the class of "turns in things on time, easy to work with, professional", has some longer-running indie books, just the kind of mediocrity you need to write to spec. We could assign him a Jurgens value.

Critical reviews of his creator owned stuff cite thin characterization and weak motivations, too.

I wonder what happens if you do all these courses AT ONCE.

Child protection services clearly don't exist in the Gerberverse.

Buckybolts works, but the problem is that Bucky did fuck all during this run too!

As much of a Poochie as this fuck was, he did jack shit. The Winter Soldier as a member of the Thunderbolts is a solid idea on paper, but in execution, it's fucking nothing.

I had totally forgotten Nitro had such a boner for Mar-Vell

I don't get the Bucky fans who like Zub. At all.

...

Can't believe he's going behind /d/lectro's back like this honestly. And trying to tempt Nitro to cheat too!

Letters page

Oh that was about the nightwing book? Good lord.

Also read an occupy avengers SE tie in I really liked. Good on the ground pov

VINYL REPAIR

His boner for Mar-Vell is cute.

Yeah, you gotta figure even the hardcore Bucky faithful ought to have been disappointed their boy just kinda sat around doing nothing.

Kinda like if, say, one were a Karla-fag, and saw that she wasn't getting up to her usual scheming. One might be annoyed and a little disgusted.

Speaking of, why the hell did any of the Bolts go along with Bucky being the leader? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Occupy had a solid take on Hawkeye. But it was doa.

...

Lots of deaths in that which may be "cubed" away later

Because Zub can't be arsed to come up with character motivations. He got asked what Rogue's motivations for staying with the UA are and gave a complete non-answer, too.

>Speaking of, why the hell did any of the Bolts go along with Bucky being the leader? That makes no sense whatsoever.
Karla challenged his leadership, and got her heart ripped out by Kobik as a result. Can't really argue with that.

The 'buddy comedy' solicit for Simon and Beast is almost identical to the one for Mach X and Atlas in Thunderbolts, and I suppose it may also be pleasant but generic.

...

>Ellisbolts Karla: I want to manipulate Norman into insanity and have Songbird killed off on-mission so I can lead the team
>Zubbolts Karla: Rawr Bucky I should be leader fite me

Zub is acceptable as fill-in until an actually decent writer comes along, but not more. Even Hopeless is better.

Hopeless has at least shown he can write an enjoyable popcorn book, or maybe I just have a soft spot for Dr. Nemesis

>carrying cancelled book plotlines over to other books

>back then, we had anthos

THIS IS AS DEFEATED AS A VILLAIN HAS EVER BEEN

HOW COULD YOU EVER LIVE THIS DOWN

SORE SIR???

>Niciezabolts Zemo: outsmarts a fucking elder of the universe
>SE Zemo: Steven, how do I google cosmic cubes, I am sorry I let you down, Steeeven

This looks as if it could go in the "top ten most embarrassing defeats" direction.

Right. If you're gonna have do the Starscream thing, fine, but she's supposed to be smarter about it than that.

Again, even the first issue implied that Karla was going to try and manipulate Kobik into being her minion. But that would be interesting, so instead we get COSMIC CUBE LOL bullshit about how she already knew she was being played. Fuck this.

That is a hilarious way to own Nitro.

>So I was gonna blow him up but he slam dunked a tube over my head and you know, game over
Now I understand why he blew up a school.

it's great

And now, hold onto your asses...

He's the Williamson of Marlel is what you are saying? At least Williamson isn't offensive.

LIVE A POEM

Oh my god.

He was lurking around earlier! In his mask and hat!

GERBER ON A FUCKING ROLL

Is it arrogant to say that we could probably write a better Thunderbolts story?

I like to think any one of us would at least try to come up with something for everyone to do. And even if it's a rehash, at least it'd be somewhat serviceable.

we could 100% write a better Thunderbolts story

Ruth is from his Man-Thing.

Gerber was the original Morrison/Ewing, everything's connected.

Thanks for reading, you know who's guest-starring tomorrow!

We'd try to fuse all our ideas together and just end up with hatefuck pornography desu.

I got the post structuralist deconstruction of bad guys turn good and societal underpinning of A team like Thunderbolts that captures current zeitgeist in the back of my mind baby. Marlel just needs to approve my pitch.

Ales, no.

I'm hype for the killing of fools. Thanks again OP.

THANKS FAGGOT

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

So I get the feeling Gerber's one of those writers who likes to pick and grab stuff from all over the shared universe, and put it to use. It's the Grundelwald method. I dig it.

Oh I ain't even gonna front. You'd get tons of Karla/Melissa buddy adventure antics with ALL of the yuri vibes from me.

We know they'd fuck, at least

Thanks.

I would totally read a TB book by Lot tb h, it would be overreaching and pretentious but definitely more interesting than anything Sub or Spencer could write.

Coming in late.

Anything worth reading today? I'm ages behind but hey, it's Wednesday

Remember how hyped we all were?

I wasn't desu, I spent all my time in these threads telling you guys how much Zub sucked.

That giant is a cheeky motherfucker.

Honestly, no one should ever be surprised at a Bat-character going fascist, it's kind of in the DNA.

>Roger Stern

Fill in? Or is this where the Gerber Baby gets thrown out?

But we still had false hope. Also who is the definitive T-bolt writer?

No, those are all pretty standard ads from like the 50s through the 70s. Maybe even the 80s, but in the 80s there's a lot more toys and the like and less CHARLES ATLAS WILL MAKE A MAN OUT OF YOU, FUTURE HERO OF THE BEACH.

I like the idea of giving Zub a Jurgens score bc we really need that fleshed out

Well, at the time, the target market was solidly "working class white male teenagers" I think, so it's all Make Cash with DeVry and Impress Those Girls You Just Noticed With Muscles.
