Since we are allowed 1 thread per board to talk about meta topics and I'm bored I have a few questions for oldfags:

What was Sup Forums like back in the day? Let's say... from 2006 to 2009. Was it drastically different? Better/worse? If you could bring back something what would it be? If you've actually been browsing this board since 2006... why haven't you left?

I've been on Sup Forums since '06 and Sup Forums since '07. They were better times mostly since we were hoping that the movie universes would be good. As in we thought that we wouldn't get the same generic movie every year. We did however flip the fuck out when Nick Fury appeared at the end of Iron Man. We weren't hostile to everyone with assumptions that they were casual moviefags. We had a lot more story time threads.

I'm still here because I'm nearly 27 and still a loser who lives at home.

Much better. Things were slower and less moderated. Sup Forums is love wasn't just a meme.

You could post suggestive images of underage characters without the banhammer immediately crashing down on your skull.

Two key elements: First, Sup Forums is love. Think of it as a reaction to the angry nerd rage parts of the internet. Being edgy by being nice.

Second. Pre gamergate, pre SJW controlling the narrative, the press, and the industry.

We actually got shit done
Said shit wasn't autistic and actually fun

I remember back when we called people Sup Forumsmrades, and when Trollfaces were used unironically all the time... But it wasn't all good. I remember there was a lot of love for the first Transformer movies, which made me want to leave Sup Forums for the first time and drop my trip.

And now, 10 years later, I'm still here...

>What was Sup Forums like back in the day?
Why do I suddenly feel extremely old?
Is this what it feels like when your child asks you what it was like in your day?

>hostile to casual moviefags
I don't think there's hostility towards moviefags...? We discussion of cape netflix stuff and movies is a given; it's another thing that most of them suck shit.

>a lot more story time threads
did cartoons kill this board?

Well Sup Forums as a whole has a lot more traffic now, so cancer is to be expected due large number of anons. But I think we're still less toxic and more accepting than other boards.

b-but user! you can still do that

Like what?

>Sup Forums
>wears a fedora and a longcoat

Pre moviefaggotry, mostly pre Avengers that's when the real Sup Forums explosion happened, was a good era. Just much more comic content here in general. Now comics fight a two front war for board space against live action and cartoons

>Who is the Spirit

>Doesn't know who The Spirit is.

>Mahvel vs DC used to just be friendly banter
>Now with the films and the TV shows it's an all out war
Sometimes, I miss the early days

And CP.

Out of curiosity, what made you drop your trip in the end? I always wonder if the tripfags of yesteryear just went user or left altogether, we used to have a litany of them

>did cartoons kill this board?
I think they've managed to drown out some of the comics discussion alright, alongside live action. The invention of generals (which was primarily ignited by Avatar) certainly didn't help, since the majority of them are cartoon-based

Comics are unfortunately more niche and less accessible anyway, so it was bound to happen. Luckily storytimes, Win-Os and Shelf threads help maintain some form of presence for the medium here

>I don't think there's hostility towards moviefags...?

Judging by there clearly isn't as much hostility as there should be.

Sounds like an edgelord.

One of my favorite memories of the old days was Von Doom.
He was a guy that took over his college radio for an hour a few times a week and play Sup Forums related music. We all streamed it and chatted in the thread.

Well, there's always been hostility toward tripfags, even in the olden days. But the reason I dropped my trip is because I made a big deal out of "leaving Sup Forums" in that Transformers movie thread and I did leav for a few months, so when I came back I didn't really feel like reusing my trip. I wasn't as much of a circlejerker as othere tripfags such as Boco and Movie Theater Lad, though.

slower
friendlier
no constant political shitflinging
more comfy in general

most of this goes for every board

The Spirit is cool fuck you.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me, props

>Movie Theater Lad
Fuck, what was that crazy story he posted about himself? Used to circulate in screencap threads

Lurk moar

I have this.

Sounds comfy as heck.

>Luckily storytimes, Win-Os

I'm honestly very grateful for those. You guys got me into Hellboy and some quality DC comics I never knew existed. Now I'm a DC-fag and I love it.

Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and ask "Where did it all go so wrong?"

No thats The Shadow.

Why hasn't Hiro deleted this worthless LARPing board yet?

Sup Forumsnservatory

>Sup Forumsmblr mascot is a ripoff of an (((Eisner))) character

Really makes u think

>LARPing board
How exactly does one LARP on the internet?

>Was it drastically different?
It was slower and because there was less moderation, there was more discussion. Less shitposting and fewer consolewars as well, as a lot of that came from Sup Forumsfags and Sup Forums.
>Better/worse?
Definitely better.
>If you could bring back something what would it be?
30 second image cooldowns. Kicking post cooldowns up to 60 seconds like most other boards for non-pass anons really killed storytimes. Also, less mods/moderation in general.
>If you've actually been browsing this board since 2006... why haven't you left?
Where else is there to go for comic book discussion online? Every other comic book forum is an over-moderated den of shit and shills. Sad as it is, Sup Forums is the only place you can go for honest opinions.

t. 2016 election newfag

Everyone here loved the Avengers when it came out. It was Man of Murder posting that enabled the Sup Forums cancer.

Sup Forums was shit but it became shittier when it became a magnet to
>tumblr due to Homestuck discussion
>Sup Forums shitposters due to MCU/DCEU discussion and company wars
>Sup Forums due to SJWs getting into comics and some posters from Sup Forums can't tell if an issue is outdated or irrelevant so they act as if Sup Forums legitimately supports that stuff

>honest opinions

and how many of these "honest opinions" are people just saying shit for (you)s and not really being honest about their opinion?

...

>MCUnts love shit and ruining boards
I believe you.

>be Sup Forumsmblr
>shitpost PUNCH NAZI threads every day while acting like buzzfeed commenters

Also why do you think the place is called Sup Forumsmblr? It's literally 30+ year old white dudes pretending to be teenagers.

It was mainly comics, nerd rage and cringy backpatting about being "the best board".
There was a lot less cartoon threads and thus also less tumblr shit.

I still say that story was made up. He said he went to summer camp and got assfucked in a row by every other boy there when he was around 11.

I wonder what happened to that guy.

Except most of Sup Forums are against that kind of stuff and call out those who think "punching Nazis" is a solution

>95128750
You see this post everyone? This used to be non-existent across any thread in the catalog. Now shit like this is a staple post in just about every thread. You wanna know how it was different? More storytimes and none of this.

There are plenty of "days since DC did something stupid" threads in the archive I can show you if you're being sarcastic.

How long have you been here?

>Sad as it is, Sup Forums is the only place you can go for honest opinions.

That is true. As much shit there is, Sup Forums still has its moments. I like like you guys.

Second half of 2014 was the beginning of nu-internet.

Nobody has your back these days. It's up to the individual to improve himself.

>HURR DURR I'M Sup ForumsMBLR

>I HATE Sup Forums BUT I LOVE ACTING EXACTLY LIKE THEM BY SPAMMING THE CATALOG WITH WORTHLESS RACEBAITING SHITPOST THREADS EVERY DAY

>HAHAHA FUK U MODS XD XDD

Sup Forums likes Nazis?

That post was from an industry thread

...

Just the fact that those threads can go to 200+ posts of "arguments" show that a subset of Sup Forumsmblr do support them.

>Also why do you think the place is called Sup Forumsmblr?
I'm guessing it's because /r/the_donald newfags like yourself actually get told to fuck off?

No, they just believe in freedom in speech and that those who get punched or assaulted aren't necessarily Nazis to begin with. Some were just Trump voters, others were just white
They did nothing wrong

See this place is getting fucked thrice

>open Sup Forums catalog
>waifu thread
>waifu thread
>/our guy/
>JUST
>QUOTE
>waifu thread
>eceleb
>eceleb
>indie bullshit nobody reads

Reminder this is the board that still thinks it's a top 5 attraction and not creeping closer to becoming a ghost town every day

b-but I'm neither white nor 30+ years old...

>Sup Forums is white trash like me
Hi Sup Forums. We're talking about the days when you remained in your board.

>I was the one that suggested Rogue's hair stripe.
If that remains my only contribution to the world I will still be content.

>more comics
>less cartoons
How the fuck?

>honest opinions

What's yours? Star's pussy is tight? Of course people here would agree with you faggot

No generals.

He was talking about comic discussion

>shitpost PUNCH NAZI threads
I've only seen that thread once and 90% of it was some Sup Forumsedditor spamming porn and gore because he got butthurt after someone made fun of Trump. Shit was hilarious.

...

Nobody here actually looks at the content it's supposed to discuss when you can just recycle the same garbage Rick and Morty and Christina Miller threads instead.

Sounds like Sup Forums and Sup Forums

>most of Sup Forums are against that kind of stuff
>that's why they bump those threads to 400 posts instead of hiding and reporting them

Going by catalog.neet.tv/stats.html Sup Forums traffic is just fine. Having Sup Forums or Sup Forums traffic would make quality discussion almost impossible.

Do you only go to co once every ten yearsor something?
I see no other explanation.

>Sup Forums can find the HWNDU flag via chemtrails and identify a bike lock assailant
>Sup Forums doesn't even know who their janitor is

Well?

for some reason Sup Forumstards think LARP and RP can be used interchangibly

>Also why do you think the place is called Sup Forumsmblr?
Because Tumblr runs rampant here

>oh look some /sveg/ autist ran off from their containment thread

I mean that Sup Forums can give you their opinion on movies and comics and often they turn out to be right. I've read Sandman because of Sup Forums and it was nice. Sup Forums said that the Wonder Woman movie was 'alright' and it WAS alright. They also said that homestuck is fucking shit and /hsg/ was BANNED from Sup Forums.

>Sup Forums that high
Hiroshimoot needs to bite the bullet and just get rid of that board. It'll shit things up for a while but that'll eventually clear.

Sup Forums has motivation.

It'll just seep in everywhere else

If Sup Forums goes Sup Forums needs to go too.

Didn't 8ch do most of the work?

Pol was created because the deletion of new shat up all the other boards with no end in sight for ages you fucking newfag.

Look I don't need to prove anything to you. I could post a pic of my hand or something but we both know this is fairly varied board. We even have femanons here.

for round 4 and 5. 1, 2, 3, and 6 it was Sup Forums

moot just gave in too early with that.
Hell, that wasn't even the first time a board deletion shit up the rest of the site, my memory is a little fuzzy but I'm pretty sure it wasn't even the first Sup Forums like board we had.
Everything else was fine after time had passed, so too would have this.

8/co is just Sup Forums and porn with some Sup Forums

I've been on Sup Forums since about 2009, guess I'm a newfag, but lurked for a few years and started using Sup Forums about 2012/2013. I guess naturally I'm not going to be as jaded and cynical as other anons here:

I loved Sup Forums then - and still love it now.I don't know if it was a substantially slower board five years ago, but it very much felt like it.

Nice thing about Sup Forums is that everyone is plain honest about their opinions, indeed, it's what Sup Forums as a whole is all about. Into some preschool cartoon shit? No shame, just make a thread and somehow several dozen posters flock to it.

If you want to blast a writer for self-inserting themselves into a cartoon relationship, that stuff flies well too. I cherish that kind of freedom.

senpai, we're talking about Sup Forums in a Sup Forums meta thread. Like it or not, Sup Forums dominates everything. Not just on Sup Forums, but in society at the moment. Everything is politicised and all it takes is one post thats could be taken slightly political to get a response that draws in more people and spirals into a 300 post discussion of shit.

How many anons are even still aware of the OC Sup Forums still makes on a regular basis or even care for that matter?

Back during the early years there were AUs a-plenty (very few were saved to the Sup Forumsnservatory before we lost the old plus4chan /coc/ board archives), then jokes that become characters, then weird but amazing mix and match characters, and then some attempts to make actual comics (Sup Forums comics festival in 2011).
The remnants of that attempt actually did become comics (Pulp, Lovely Ladybug).

I'M NOT !

Hey you know what? Maybe YOU'RE the whitebread piece of shit dad who gets off to young adults posting pics of their hands or whatever. You bait them and then you save them for later 'use'. Nice fucking try you weirdo.

>gave in too early
We still see the effects of it you utter retard. Pol spreading outside of their own board started with it.

We have the channel-tan threads now

I honestly don't know much about that. I know about the main three but it seems to have exploded in every direction from there.
Very hard to keep track of.

Ignore them OP, he's trolling you.

Pulp is still going which is great.

They're having trouble keeping their site up though.

Mainly I remember there weren't so many people actively trying to piss other people off. Just in general more people seemed informed or willing to learn about shit. Like there were always people that were just starting out but they didn't act like they knew everything and they didn't make comments that suggested that getting caught was beneath them. I find that shit very annoying now. Drawthreads weren't primarily people trying to get waifu commissions drawn and getting bent out of shape or whiny when they weren't delivered in a timely manner or the artist decided to make some joke out of misspelling or poor wording of the request. THERE IS A TON OF FUCKING ENTITLED I see in Sup Forums these days.

I remember this from around when Watchmen came out.

Most of my modern collection is made up of Sup Forums's recommendations and all the threads about the comics at the time.

Bendis's Daredevil. Immortal Iron Fist. Moon Knight. Annihilation. Ultimates 1 and 2. Utlimate Spider-Man and XMen. Deadpool and Cable. Y: The Last Man. DMZ. Cerebus. The Nam. GI Joe. Justice League International. Slott's She Hulk. X Factor. New XMen. JLA. JSA. Empowered. Hellboy. Transmetropolitian. Blue Beetle. 52. Lucifer. House of Mystery. Hitman. Queen and Country. Conan. Flight. Paul Dini's Batman. Invinicible. New Avengers. And even House of M.

I miss and love you, old Sup Forums

New Sup Forums seems to hate everything and it's hard to blame them, but at least old Sup Forums still enjoyed discussing the bad ones, sometimes making the bad ones hard to miss (Ultimatum, Civil War, etc).

Sup Forums wasn't even around when Sup Forums was launched you fucking newshit.
>>>/tumblr/
>>>/reddit/

>I've only been on Sup Forums for a year
Stop talking out of your ass newfag, Sup Forums is cancer personified because of /news/ deletion. Once upon a time, you could get real, good advice on /adv/ but that's gone the way of the dodo because of the original /r9k/'s deletion.
Nuking a board doesn't just make the posters who homeboard it go away, nobody just lurks/posts on once board.

>lots of deleted posts
This didn't happen in the 2000s.
