I'm accumulating data on the future technology and design of sexbots. The data, methodology, knowledge I accumulate will be compiled into a series of tutorials and articles dedicated to DIY enthusiasts; or just people interested in sex.
I'm currently collecting information from ground zero: Materials, technologies, aesthetics, realism/themed, muscles, tissue/fat/layers, extra details, .... the list goes on.

Those are made by companies who have to stick to whatever technology they adopt. We're a hive, we adapt and select the best technologies regardless of prior investments. Look at what that robot is made out of? Ok, the layers of silicone weigh it down, the mechanism for moving the robot is slow, probably pneumatic.
We, together, can think and reason amongst ourselves regarding what technology to use. We can make models which are cheap and get down the basics before going all in with a technology and approach which will fail.

Essentially you have a few foundational problems to work out before things like design and aesthetics begin to become important.
-muscles(actuators) -speed of movement(smoothness) -balancing(maintaining control of position in a real world environment)
Now, what's mostly important is the first two. The last one can be taken on by non germans who can solve the problem. So we will probably be using electromagnetic muscle system because it's fast.

This is really dumb guys. If you look at the robot move in a "jerky" fashion, it's because of the design, it's heavy with a lot of metal, the gears have to move a lot of weight. We're going to need a lot of software developers to add functionality to the FOSS droids, and develop attractive faces that add to the experience. The tissue and fat that are layers on the bots can vary, we need to keep track of what materials are the most popular.

Yup yup! We're going to encompass everything that guys want out of one of these. We're going to make the design and software free, and the materials we'll try to make a cheap as possible. Not just me, but the rest of you as well. This is a group project and I'll keep making threads about my progress. I'm currently working on a wikia for the topic. It's just placeholder stuff right now, it will soon have complete designs and everyone can add to it and we can make a huge catalog of versions sortable by price and difficulty to make.

Aside from that, it could be a cheap alternative for those of us who have to start out cheap and work our way up. However, this project has a lot of potential and there are many reasons it would get people motivated to contribute to a final product. Initially the AI wouldn't be the priority, but the muscle and joint system for moving the body. The design of the outer layers is very important and there are plenty of designs currently available for us to take liberally. Hey there :) I and my brother are working on the AI aspect, we had been working on it long before I thought it would be awesome to make a sexdroid wikia complete with designs and supernormal stimuli.
Now we were working on a general intelligence platform. Essentially it revolves around nerves, the nervous system, and how the brain might store these things.
For this project we don't need anything that complicated. As far as being responsive to it's surroundings, I was thinking of using an emotion/expression/behavior system, which is reactive in a believable way without requiring something along the lines of concepts.
