If you're so smart, what's the right way to do a Mabel-esque character?

If you're so smart, what's the right way to do a Mabel-esque character?

Give them flaws as well as obstacles that don't get resolved quickly.

Yeah, probably

Like this.

...

Well Satan, to start you could basically just do exactly what you did in Gravity Falls except actually punish her for her horrible decisions.

When someone you know is given a chance to massively improve their life and you literally cause the apocalypse [for instance, just an example], the moral SHOULD NOT FUCKING BE THAT HE SHOULD PAY MORE ATTENTION TO YOU YOU FUCKING SHIT YOU'RE SUCH SHIT.

*Ahem*

Also this.

Don't make her the centerpiece of a climactic event.

Write them as an actual character and not just a shallow vehicle for conflict escalation. Same deal with scrappy doo

What do you mean?

You that sperg from the Gene Belcher thread?

Who cares?

Make her not bad

You write Dipper broad enough that it's obvious to even the autists on this board that he's a fucking loser and all his problem come from his own awfulness and not Mabel.

Dipper's already very bland, why make him blander?

Combine her with Pacifica.

But that's wrong, because Star is incredibly annoying.

She's just as annoying.

Basically the same but with sexual tension with Dipper in every scene

This.

What's wrong with Mabel? Characters are allowed to be ditzy and short sighted, you know, especially 12 year old girls.

This. Mabel gets away with most of the shit she does because Dipper's a massive pushover. Of course you're going to end up being entitled and self centered and never learn from your mistakes if you have someone constantly reassuring you that you didn't do anything wrong.

From memory, the only episode where she actually learned from her behavior and was proven wrong was the episode where she takes over the mystery shack while Stan was away because Stan isn't a fucking massive loser pushover like Dipper.

Make her supportive and interested in mysteries instead of having her waste my time on irrelevant subplot or have her emerge to be a killjoy.

Or keep her characterization but make it so she's a villain (if unwitting) and Dipper is wrong for enabling her.

>she's a child so it's okay for her to be an abhorrent character
love this argument

She never does anything outright evil though. Most of her fuck ups are from her not understanding the gravity of the situation or making a mistake, as children do, or being selfish and thinking their tiny problems are the hardest/most dire thing in the world which once again, is something children are very prone to, especially if they're enabled constantly by colossal pushovers, like Dipper. There are assloads of overly competent miniature adult-tier protagonists, I don't get why a bunch of adults are so bothered by a genuinely child-like character having a child-like personality and actually fucking up sometimes. The only thing 'wrong' about Mabel is that she never gets called out for her shit but most people on Sup Forums who bitch about her want to outright change her character/personality completely and make her another mini-adult protagonist who never fucks up.

As if adults don't fuck up.

This is very strange idea that child's fuckups should be tolerated. Mabel shouldn't be coddled by narrative, this is disruptive for narrative itself and makes Hirsch look insane.

a fucktoy

Male writers just aren't good at writing female characters, they way too often idealize/waifu them.

Get lost, Alex.

What about cartoons that get it right?

She may be annoying, but she gets character development because she gets punished for her mistakes. By the end of the series she might actually make a good queen

>Basically the same but with sexual tension with Dipper in every scene
Were we watching the same show?

Could someone take Stard and flush her down a toilet? I hate that fucking show. Yeah, Mabel had mistakes in her development, but Stard sucks and I'm sick of her being rammed at every GF thread.

Oh? What about female characters who aren't annoying?

>le quirky and randumb character who is so epic and quirky *holds up wand*
Why do people like this Slaweel the Witch ripoff?

The answer is NUDITY! Show her little girl butt every episode. That's an improvement I'd watch.

This. Star is a focus of events, rather than an innocent bystander.
She is bumb and proactive enough to cause her own messes, but also empathetic and smart enough to learn from mistakes.
Marco as her Mabel-equivalent in that he is a close second for screentime and always in it with Star, doesn't have any of Mabel's disqualifying mistakes. He is having his own interests that actually have comparative weight, and he acts to advance them, instead of asking for Star to step back so he gets his shit for free.
Marco is by himself interesting enough to have his own episodes and compliments Star with his traits, rather than being a roadblock.
Another thing Marco and Star have over Dipper and Mabel is that they readily embrace their road to adulthood as an adventure to be had, and don't lament the passage of time condemning things to constant change.

All taken.
Also nothing like Mabel.
You can't do obnoxious ditz right and not be annoying on some level.

...

Reminder that Mabel will never pee all over you

Disney are fags; they wouldn't let them do that.
