I guess it was a 60s thing
Because it's from the 60's. And anything from that shithole of a decade will be praised.

What other shows or movies give me nostalgia for the 60's?
Great direction, great performances, great soundtrack, great script that's incredibly funny at times, packed with memorable moments and an endearing protagonist. Its one of the better coming of age dramas that deals with the uncertainty of adulthood, the future and life.
It's because it had an absurdly long run thanks to some Dallasfags.
Basically all the critics circle eventually got to see it and then boom.
Perhaps this exchange between Bart and Lisa from the first Treehouse of Horror will explain it.
>Bart: Lisa, that wasn't scary. Not even for a poem.
>Lisa: It was written in 1845. Maybe people were easier to scare.
>Bart: Like Friday the 13th Part I. It's pretty tame by today's standards.
Name another movie like it that was made during that time. Sure, it's not shocking today, but when it was made, it wasn't like anything else. Adultery, a May-December relationship between a dopey young man and an older married woman who was way out of his league, using sex as a tool for manipulation, etc... To have all of these things in a mainstream movie in the late 60s? Completely unheard of. Sure, it's weak tea today, but that's just due to the passage of time.
It's the degeneration of society.
Whats your favorite film user?
It was a "jewiness of jews being jewey" film, which was quite novel at that time...

Now just imagine something like this getting released in 1960 and realize that we live in a dystopian cyberpunk nightmare
I am well aware that we are currently living in a distopia, user.

Vertigo is pretty good, 1958 though
The Graduate is timeless, that's one of the reasons it's so great. It's just as relatable now as it was then
You'd need at least an undergraduate degree to watch this film.
It's excellent.
DUDE PLASTICS LMAO
