Hurt Locker isn't incredible but it was an ordeal to watch in theaters at the time. The shock of it all has worn off but there was a time it felt unique.

The Departed deserves its accolades, it's hard for me to think of many gangster flicks that are woven together with more complexity. It's not as fun as say goodfellas but in the Departed each of those "frankie carbone" types are fleshed out and have relevance to the plot as individuals.
