Why is this guy hired so often if he can only do a single voice that isn't even generic enough to work for a generic extra?

He's funny and has a lot of friends.
He's a grouchy prick at cons, too.
If you honestly think that, you're an idiot.
youtube.com
this vid alone disproves your point. he mimicked every one of his co-stars.
>can only do a single voice
He can do more than that
His scratchy Ice King/Mayor voice
His Spongbob voice
His Announcer voice
His Heffer Voice
Probably more if I think harder, the problem is often people get hired because someone liked a particular role and want that voice in their show. VAs get stuck using the same voice.
Ok then so why does he only use one voice
When was the last time you heard a Kenny role and didn't immediately know it was him
>if he can only do a single voice that isn't even generic enough to work for a generic extra
We've been over this in every Steven Blum or Jon Benjamin thread, they have plenty of voices, but the casting director usually only wants one.
He must have not liked you user
Cause he's great with the younger fanbase cause from I saw he stayed to sign and talk to every kid at the con
Scaramouche.
Hell I'm almost thirty and he was pleased as punch to talk to me and my buddy while we gushed over Rocko with him. Super nice guy.
I think you're just way too accustomed to his voice now. I felt somewhat similar on Simon Templeman, John DiMaggio, Steve Blum, Michael Bell, Jim Cummings, Nolan FUCKING North... Even though they're terrific actors I'll pretty much know every time who they are no matter their role.
It's hard to look at it as someone who never heard them before, but that's what you have to become essentially. A complete newcomer of a specific medium.
Scaramouche, Million Ants Man. Took me a good few mins for both
>muh one voice
What's important is the actual ACTING ability, how well they emote. muh multiple voices is just a gimmick.
This.
Tara strong got lucky enough to have several iconic voices people can choose from.
>he can only do a single voice
nice, got me to reply
Calling bullshit on this one,met him years ago and told I'd never seen an episode of Spongebob but loved his Plastic Man,and we ended up talking 20 minutes about Plas
Voice actors only do what the directors tell them to do. Popular VA's are often just told to do their most iconic voice. Although if you listen to them enough, you learn their speech patterns even if it's a different voice. That's the reason why Metal Gear fans can easily pick out any of the big VA's.
>grouchy prick
Those words don't apply to Tom
I've met Donald Duck's VA, and that's exactly the words I'd use
>His Heffer Voice
It was a hoot
>I've met Donald Duck's VA, and that's exactly the words I'd use
What happened?
He just felt like he didn't want to be here, and frankly was a bit cold
His table was next to Zach Collison's, and I guess the guy who's in a show with lesbian rocks with sizable fan base gets more attention
>I've met Donald Duck's VA, and that's exactly the words I'd use
Tony Anselmo is also gay, and I've never met a homosexual who didn't have a grumpy, hateful disposition, or behave like a condescending, insulting, snarky little shit. That's just the default personality type for gay people; don't take it personally.
He's done numerous voices over his career, he emotes well, has great line delivery, and is very professional. You don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about or how the industry works. Voice acting isn't just "doing a funny voice" especially when it's on a comedy show.
>You don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about or how the industry works
>Someone who doesn't know about something is asking a question about it, what a fucking loser
>Let me insult him and pose a rhetorical question
>wtf why are you mad at me I was just being fucking stupid???
Even if he doesn't have the greatest range, he still blows the competition out of with water with his spot-on deliveries.
Being able to mask your voice effectively and still push through hundreds of pages of scripts is just the cherry on top.
George Lowe, Matt Mercer, Liam O' Brian, Mark Hamill, and countless others get by because they triumph over kiddies that can only do "good impressions", like that one jack-off on YouTube that tried getting the role of Flanders when his VA originally opted out of his contract renewal. He has 0% charisma and can't do more than copy people better than him, which is why he's never so much been offered a professional gig.
Tom Kenny is so charismatic it hurts. The man can just walk right into a booth and talk normally for characters like Plastic Man and it sticks to you. He's been praised in interviews with people he's worked with about how professional he is, how they barely have to do any retakes of lines, and just generally what a great guy he is. All of this screams "must have" for anyone looking to get a role done quickly and very effectively for their cartoon or video game; which is why he always he never needs to look for work.
Now if you want to talk about really shitty VAs that keep getting work then let's discuss Tara Strong, Troy Baker, Ashley Burch, Kira Buckland, David Hayter, and Erin Fitzgerald.
>that song
is spongebob bearable again?
He's overall nice, but he has no tolerance for NOFUN lorefags. He called them mouthbreathers once. I kek'ed.
>people talking about same-voice VAs
>not a single Patrick Warburton mention
>Tara Strong, Troy Baker, Ashley Burch, Kira Buckland, David Hayter, and Erin Fitzgerald.
>they're shitty because their presence in social media is bad
that dont matter to casting directors. if they cant work in a booth, is unprofessional, or did a thing like touch a child, that'll kill a career
Damn near every episode of Rick & Morty
>Now if you want to talk about really shitty VAs that keep getting work then let's discuss Tara Strong, Troy Baker, Ashley Burch, Kira Buckland, David Hayter, and Erin Fitzgerald.
All of them put out excellent work and the job they're hired to do well. You want a shitty VA? Think of someone impossible to work with, who can't emote, and cause production delays, and those people don't get lengthy careers.
Imfuckingplying Troy Baker and Kira Buckland are bad VAs.
Thank you, this was exactly the sort of actual answer I wanted
I ran into him in the halls at SDCC and just said "Hey" at him and he was all "Hi!" what a prick.
VA is full of nepotism
But that one voice is awesome so everybody gives him a pass.
I wonder how he feels about Mission Hill, I'd love to hear his thoughts on Gus and Wally.
This and also Commander Peepers from WoY when I first watched it.
What? My barber and a bunch of people I know at school are gay, and it's a blast to hang out with them.
Only recently realised that he was the voice of the pirate who sings the Spongebob theme.
>Think of someone impossible to work with
David Hayter is very well known for being an insufferable prick with an inflated-ego
>who can't emote
Tara Strong, Ashley Burch, Kira Buckland, Erin Fitzgerald. All either dry deliveries or high-pitched screams that nobody should ever be subjected to listening to
>and cause production delays
Troy Baker thanks to the voice acting union (mafia) he works with
Troy can only do regular white guys well, but falls apart doing roles like Joker, Kanji, and Ocelot. The only time I liked Kira's work was 2B, and that's because she talks like a robot in all of her roles.
Why is Sup Forums so full of bait threads right now?
>Troy Baker thanks to the voice acting union (mafia) he works with
I love that he does that but was ok with fucking over the old silent hill voice actors when konami broke the law.
>condescending, insulting, snarky little shit
a lot of the gays I know fall into this category, but they're not serious about it. It's like people who are permanently on sarcasm mode
Since this is a VA thread I wish Steve Blum found an excuse to use his guilmon voice more.
Whoa I didn't know that!
I think you meant to post this picture OP
it's called voice acting, not doing voices
>touching a child would kill a career in Hollywood
lol
You could be the best impersonator and voice actor in the world and someone would only want you for a specific voice you can do, because it was the voice of your most famous character.
He plays Patchy in the live action segments, noobs.
Very true. This is like someone complaining about live action actors having only one face.
Tara Strong fuckin sucks tho, user. Even as a VA.
This is honestly how I feel about Robert Paulsen, even though I know it's inaccurate.
I love when Erin does that breathy voice she used with sorceress and parasoul. I'll give you Kira and Ashley though, most of what they've been in sounds the same
I want to hear Kevin Conroy do anything that isn't Batman or Batman derivatives.
that and leeron, he's admitted its one of his favorite voices to do
He's also a decent singer
youtube.com
Liar, he was super nice to me at a con and even went along with my cousin's autism about Spongebob.
