For example, when studying the rise to power of natsoc or bolcheviks, don't go read what some vaguely popular professor thinks about it (unless it's legitimately new and interesting with lots of rare documents etc.), go read what Goebbels wrote about it, or what Trotsky and Lenine wrote.
Same goes even for ancient history, ancient historians exist, and they are primary sources. If you read a 'history book' about it, it's just going to be the same information but digested and cut into pieces with inane comments inserted in the middle.

I imagine the ones in Poland were more strict, but the camp at Terezín in the Czech Republic, they have scores of drawings and even plays and operas the inmates made and put on. This was beyond propaganda film; I've been there and there are literally hundreds of artifacts.
