ATLA is basically the cusp of the good cartoons era, in fact I would argue it's the very last one. So it's practically honorary childhood in that sense (as opposed to the great cartoons of the 2000s in general).

There are times I wonder if Lin wasn't Aang's. Would definitely explain why Toph never told her who her father was, and might also explain why Lin and Aang got along so well. Aang has a moment of weakness with Toph and Toph can't bear to tell him something came of it because it would destroy Aang's marriage to Katara; so all that time Aang and Lin's chemistry is literally parental but neither of them know.

Although, as a counterargument, you'd think at least Toph would say something when Lin and Tenzin started dating if that were the case. Not to mention that apparently Lin's father is introduced in one of the comic stories. So I suppose it's not a possibility after all.
