> According to a study by the University of Washington, if science, technology, engineering and math fields want more women, they’re going to have to drop the Star Trek posters and Mystery Science Theater 3000 fandom that defines their “toxic masucline” culture. Psychology Professor Sapna Cheryan says that she was deterred from a career in the hard sciences because the boys in so-called STEM classes had a brotherhood defined by Dungeons & Dragons and pop culture references she says deterred female participation. That left her with an ax to grind, and so she set out to prove that male nerd culture is toxic to female success. Because never in history has there been a female Star Trek fan, Dungeons & Dragons player, or authentic geek—or a woman with enough wherewithal to handle geeky men without collapsing into tears at the mere mention of Captain Picard.

Women will never get into STEM if they can't take personal responsibility for their actions. You know what happens when you half ass any of these programs in my area? You wash out.
This isn't a liberal areas major where you put under 10 hours in a week and spend the evenings and weekends scamming free jokes off young and naive boys.

What's funny is that software and computer science actually has a long history of based, red pilled women making huge contributions to the field.
Female participation has gone down recently however because of all the fear mongering from the feminists about how terrible the environment is.
Ryder Adams
Who cares? It's STEM, if you're not capable you're not going to have a successful career simple as that. The great thing about hard sciences is that they can't dumb it down to make it more inclusive.
Caleb Allen
Which is funny because software and computer science kids are just Autists. They won't attempt to rape a female... they will have problems even making eye contact.
>Work in IT >Computer Science department students and faculty/staff filling their shit full of Malware and can fuck up a wet dream if given the chance.
I don't know how these niggers are so good good at computational programming and what not because otherwise they are as dumb as rocks.
Jaxon Green
The problem is that computer science is the meme degree now, software engineering is the actual degree that is worth its salt because it stresses actual software development/testing along with extra classes like database management, network security, etc.
Sucky part though is that most school include software engineering in, shocking, their engineering department. So you have to take fuck loads of math and science you'll never need.

Jesus christ, this is summed up to her feeling rejected, not that she was actually rejected because a bunch of nerds talked about stuff among themselves.

I always thought someone with a PhD would be an innately intelligent person. I mean you almost have to be right? Working where I am now just completely blew away that perception for me. From experience there are two types of people that succeed.
1) Individuals who are well rounded and just genuinely have a higher intelligence/work ethic.
2) People that have an unbalanced mental state that happens to fall in favor of this field/career. Could be autism or what have you. I've met many individuals who are stupidly smart in the field yet lack proper social habits or are complete morons in other areas.
Steve Jobs is a horrid example because he was a business man and not a comp sci/software eng. But he is a great example of point two of a person that is very successful in intelligent in his job yet takes "air baths" or believes a fruit diet could cure his cancer and was a huge fucking ass hole to his peers.
So yeah, I've been lucky enough to encounter case 1 a lot but case 2 is usually there pissing all the 1's off.

It's funny, I've been in the IT field for 20 years now and have worked with a ton of women and they seem to fall into two categories:
1: Fucking based that know fucking everything. Seriously, they put the effort in and know their shit. I've always loved working with them. 2: The barely know anything and rely on notes, google, etc. But, they're female, so they get a pass.
I've never worked with a woman in the industry that was average. By this, I mean that only knows their particular niche. For example, a networking guy may not know jackshit about, say, relational databases, or a developer may not know anything about server administrator. But the women I've worked with are not "jack of all trades, master of none" - they're pretty good at everything.
I don't know if it's over-compensating, or what. But the nice thing is just about every one of the good ones hates the feminist thoughts on STEM.

This is the problem with multiculturalism. Basically she's saying that the only way to get women into hard sciences is to replace actual smart people and science nerds with Chad, only Chad is an idiot, so putting him in STEM will make a whole lot of nothing actually get done in STEM.
Brandon Reed
>based leaf Basically if women want "equality," then stop screaming to be equal and bring in/show us you got the "quality" for the hard sciences. Who cares that women don't watch shows like Star Trek or play D&D, just get to class and don't start a bitch fit. It's the fucking same with minorities, they keep shouting >muh racism >white man keeping me down >dindu nuffin Stop complaining and actually show you're worth the goddamn effort.

I have only been doing what I am doing now for 5 years (3 years of helpdesk and 2 years of systems admin).
2 of 3 years of helpdesk working in a department ran by women. 1 year in heldesk ran by men and 2 years working as a systems admin ran by the same men.
In my relatively limited experience I find that IT Managers that are women like to implement all sorts of little bullshit rules and regulations while working with men I find don't give a fuck as long as the primary job is done.
I prefer working for men so much more. There is only one female worker that I don't speak with much since she is on the other side of the server room but she seems to at least be knowledgeable. The problem is that she is in a relationship with her manager and has become extremely lazy. I completely bypass her when I need shit done.

Jaxon Lopez
What fucking community ffs?
STEM isn't a community, it's a conglomeration of different fields and various disciplines. What has Star fucking Trek has to do with being a doctor or and engineer or an architect?
This whole thing is beyond ridiculous. First of all, anyone's inclusion isn't a goal. If you think you can do it, you can try. Otherwise you can fuck off. It not someone else's job to help and include you in the first place.
Second of all, this isn't a culture, it's a job. You do it, because you can do it and you are good at it, or you fail and you'd have to look for another call in life. It's your profession, not a free time activity.
Leo Murphy
I almost said the third category: managers. I've worked for a LOT over the years. While there have been some good ones, I worked for a lot that either micro-managed or ruled with an iron fist. (I even worked for one female manager that would pick out one male employee and ride his ass for weeks, calling him out in departmental meetings, etc. After a few weeks, she'd pick a different guy and repeat the process. It got so bad that and there were so many complaints that she was not allowed to even talk to the guys without someone from HR present. And she never did this to the female employees. If all the genders had been switched, she'd been out on her ass.)
But literally all the men I've worked for have been, "Are you meeting your metrics? Are you not causing shit? Cool. Call me if you need me."
I didn't include female managers though because none of the ones I worked with had tech degrees: they were all business majors - every one of them. (One did go and get a second CS degree, and I liked working for her because I didn't have to constantly explain why her latest initiative didn't work.)

REEEEEEEEEEEE STOP ACTING SO MANLY
REEEEEEEEEEEE STOP BEING NERDS AND WATCHING STAR TREK
I don't understand, this article contradicts itself. Since when was being a nerd toxically masculine? Nerds aren't liked by women so they keep to themselves. I wish these types of women would just come out and say what they've meant to say say about beta males all these years: they hate them and feel they should be rounded up and genocided. They've danced around it for far too long. Ignoring and rejecting them has never been enough it seems.
Lincoln Carter
Computer Engineering major here, I'm in my Junior year and I want to die whenever I hear this. To the credit of the few girls still in the major, they're all pretty based and don't cause trouble. But I firmly believe that women as a whole just can't take STEM. We started out in Freshman year with plenty in the program, we're in Junior year and 90% of them dropped or went to an easier engineering. My classmates are some of the nicest, openest people I know, I've never heard a single claim of sexual harassment, our professors are always open for help- And they still couldn't do it By the armchair social scientists who think they understand STEM still think it's a problem with society/ the system Jessususss chrissst

My girlfriend has a STEM degree. She's probably one of the smartest people I've ever met. She worked in her field for about five years before I met her. She made good money but ended up quitting because of the stress and the hours.
She now makes about half of what she used to and is an admin assistant (although she hates that term and openly admits she's just a secretary). She loves it. Regular hours/ no stress - she comes home from work and doesn't give a second thought about work until the next morning.
I'm actually envious of her, but it is an example of men vs women: a woman can be perfectly happy at a comfortable plateau and guys are always looking forward, wanting to be better.

I know what you meant, senpai. But you summed it up well with the "can survive in the environment, but I don't think they in general are equipped for it."
And it's not "muh sexcism!!1!11" that drives women away from the environment - it's the stress (at least from what I've seen).
