We're in for the long haul. I don't think I'll ever end up out of ideas for Capeworld. The setting is just too large. The telepathic dream comic I'm collaborating on might even be part of it.

Has there ever been a shared universe webcomic? I would be neat to be the first, but I doubt that I am.

what do you mean, like multiple comics sharing a universe? there's a lot of hip liberal 20somethings comics that share a universe loosely by way of crossovers they all do. often someone's cat will have kittens and then they will all get adopted by other comics.

Also, would like some feedback on my text story Daredevil (about the golden age one, not the Marvel One).

capeworldcomics.com/chapter/the-daredevil-text/

I particularly want feedback on these parts:capeworldcomics.com/comic/the-daredevil-4/

and

capeworldcomics.com/comic/the-daredevil-5/

It's told from the perspective of a Nazi rocketeer who has to fight the Daredevil. I wanted to really capture the fear and frustration of being a normal soldier against costumed supergods who fight using powers you can't understand and win battle after battle.

Reading up on golden age superhero comics I was struck just by how mean some of them were. From the perspective of the Axis soldiers the comics were basically snuff films on paper. I sort of wanted to play with that idea.

Interesting, I didn't think webcomics had many crossovers. Could you link me some?

Sample:

arl exhaled. They told him not to hold his breathe during a teleportation, to breathe as if everything were normal, but he couldn’t help it. It all happened too suddenly. Suddenly everything was slow, and hazy, and cold. It felt like being underwater. So Karl thought it was only naturally that he had an urge to hold his breathe as if he were about to dive into a pool.
Karl exhaled. The sound echoed in his mask. The specially polarized glass in his lenses dimmed the black and yellow lights of his signalbelt so that he could see the white lights around his mask and on his arms indicating altitude, position, air supply, and other necessities. The signalbelt lights were for planes and ground units, not for other rocketeers and certainly not to blind the rocketeer they were attached to.
Karl checked every single indicator light and was glad to find them bright and steady in their placement on their track of bulbs. Air supply was good. Fuel supply was good. The formation indicator was lit where he was told it should be.

Karl wasn’t sure exactly why he felt the need to check the indicator lights. He and his fellow wing of rocketeers just launched from their support carrier docked in the Vaterland III’s bay. Was it just nerves? It was possible. Being on-board the living ship was incredibly unnerving. He was glad he wasn’t required to step foot off the carrier. He was sure that if he ever did he would feel like a crumb of slowly digesting food inside a giant mechanical gut. Just the idea of Schwarz Narr being able to track every single living creature’s movement inside the Vaterland III through breathe and body heat was enough to make his blood run cold. He thanked god for the tablets the quartermaster passed around. He wasn’t sure if he would have been able to sleep inside the black spider’s web otherwise especially with the rumor that Schwarz Narr, for whatever reason his clockwork and wire brain created, enjoyed watching people sleep.

But it was Karl’s post to escort the Vaterland III and he was duty bound to never question his post.

At least now, weightless against a sunlit blue sky and with his belly to an ocean of white clouds, he was free of Schwarz Narr. And the mission promised to be an easy one even if distasteful.

I'm planning on redrawing this page. I rushed it

I'm also reposting the time lapse of my work on page 10 vid.me/yMxsg

all I can think of offhand is Something Positive, though Neko the Kitty did the kittens thing too. you'll have to slog through the archives yourself, unless tvtropes can help

Would be funnier if he said "You screwed with the wrong guy!" to match his little HUD readout thing.

I was considering making that the line, and everyone has made that suggestion so I might change it.

From the perspective of the Axis soldiers, LIFE was a snuff film. I'm sure they were fine.

>my post about someone else making OP in the previous thread got deleted

Thanks mods. But more thanks to OP for taking care of this.

Btw this is the HYW Challenge info!

>MAIN THEME: Spiders
>SECONDARY THEME: (choose one to play around alongside the main theme!)
-Doors
-Drag Queens
-Marshmallows
>DEADLINE: September 30

Remember that you can play with the theme as you see fit, we want to see how creative you can get!

>LIFE was a snuff film

That's the sort of thing I want to capture in my writing. The shear hopelessness of facing down an enemy that's just steamrolling you even as your politicians tell you everything is fine as embodied in weird looking superhumans.

Post-war Germany is interesting in Capworld. All the old Axis countries are pretty colorful.

Germany had to turn to robotics to make up for the superhumans they lost in the war, so their big "Superman" level hero is a robot named Jetman. Germany was strongly anti-superhuman during WW2 (because they went against ideas of the master race and its very hard to run a statist government when you have individuals so in-equal in ability with respect to the volk) but they're shy about any German superbeing taking on any sort of martial role, so there aren't any German superheroes-they prefer to let superhumans from other countries handle fighting supervillians. Instead Germany has super EMTS. They have uniformed superpowered first responders and disaster relief, some of the best in the world. And they're all managed by a giant city-sized collection of nanites called The Toybox that can form itself into an instant on-site hospital, shelter, quarantine, whatever is needed.

This philosophy that superhumans should only be passive servants of the people extends even to superhuman fashion. The big and colorful costumes of American superhumans are considered tacky in Germany. Superhumans should be modest and practical in how they dress and not put on airs.

A handful of Germans have superpowers given to them by Nazi gene experiments, and these people are forbidden to ever use their powers for personal gain as this is seen as profiting from the work of Nazis. Instead their powers belong to the state and can only be used "for the common good".

Germany is also one of the countries in Capeworld with mandatory superhuman registration. It is illegal to be a superhuman in Germany not recorded on the government's database.

>let's talk about your webcomic. How long you think it's gonna last? Is it planned out, or are you gonna go til you can't go no more?

My current webcomic (which is just a bunch of one-page gags/short stories with recurring characters in a shared universe with the Fair Folk AS AYY LMAOS) is going to last some time, although it is more practice than anything. I guess it will last until I ran out of ideas to explore, which is not gonna happen soon because I'm a huge triviafag.

I have a pet project that I don't consider a really "serious" webcomic (since it is more like pokémon fanfiction and I don't really use a traditional comic format with it, and it has the "update when I manage to finish a part" schedule) and I think that one may last maybe a year or 2, depending on how fast I can get with drawing and writing. I just don't want to spend like 10 years doing the comic like some Nuzlocke comics, but at this rate and my own pacing maybe I will...

I'm going to be finished with these four pages today, but I'm uploading them next week.

Looks like I have some time to get even more ahead. :-)

fuck comics, fuck this

What happened user?

i'm shit

Come on user, that's not helping things. What's not working? You got a comic we can look at?

being shit doesn't stop me user

We are all different degrees of shit user, but here we are

>completely garbage at art
>want to do a comic anyways to get better
>don't care if people read it or not
Man, the worst part is just looking at my shitty art. It's so heartbreaking.

If you want something to draw I can give you a little script for something. You can enter it in the challenge. Do you like spiders?

Slow thread, huh.
Think I got the BG working in the last two panels.

What's this comic about? Looks cute. Got a link?

An odd couple of valkyries go on episodic adventures in the world of Norse myth around the middle of the 10th century.
Sup Forums tends to treat direct links as spam, but it's called Carrion Girls.

always love the art. in an era where most people go for the lowest hanging fruit (flat shades or b&w """"manga"""), it's nice to know some people are putting in effort.

Whadya guys think? :D

It's update day, and with help from someone in the discord, I updated my site with custom navigation Icons

I'm too cheap to buy photoshop or a tablet and too lazy to figure out gimp. So it ain't goin' anywhere.

holy kek I forgot the link
delrubydawn.cfw.me/

I don't know, I can't read it.
Fix the font and adjust the size of the speech bubbles.

How do I get into the discord and what is it, exactly?
I've seen it mentioned a lot but couldn't find a working link in the archived threads.

the link should be in the goodiebag

>DISCORD CHAT going on:
discord.gg/rXMbdqP

don't join, it's filled with autism

no more than the threads themselves

Well, in all honesty, I probably jumped into color and rendering a little faster than I should have - I often waste a lot of time rendering something before I realize I messed it up at the sketch stage and I have to redraw it.

I'm improving, but I'd probably have been better off doing a couple hundred pages of just black and white lineart before Carrion Girls so I could get better at thinking up page compositions and scripting stories in a format where I could finish a page in a fraction of the time that these pages take.

Still, I appreciate the sentiment.

Yeah I write like someone with that shaky people disorder.

Oh man those backgrounds holy fuck, this is amazing. I remember seeing the sketch of this page weeks ago but man sure the waiting pays off if it looks this nice.

Aw dude, thanks! Honestly, I've had a bad case of artist's block and this page has taken a lot longer than it should have as a result. Usually I can go from sketch to finished page in five or six days, but this one's been crawling along for over three weeks now.

this

uhh

You rushed the whole fucking thing, besides it's fucking unreadable

...

It's as if that's why it's being redrawn you don't need to be a giant cunt about it.

It'll be a part in Capeworld.

user sure is being rude but I think he may be talking about the whole comic not just that page

>whole comic rushed
>took 3 months to draw chapter 1
>took months of rewrites to get the story i'm at now

Then it's not rushed, you just suck ass

This gives me pain.

>>my post about someone else making OP in the previous thread got deleted
I would have done it sooner had I seen that.

I've always liked alien elves. Anime does it so well, all kinds of cute longeared space girls, sometimes green space babes.. plus a few videogames. but it can be even better if they come from another dimension like the ones in Wild ARMs

I don't understand what's up with how moderation has been recently. Are there new rules I'm not aware of?

Yeah I kind of like how some recent alien mythos have similarities with old fair folk traditions (even Supernatural made a reference to that in the episode covering fairies).

Although mine are more a mix between being aliens and beings from another dimension. The place were the fairies live is another dimension that has it's cities as planets instead of being all a literal mirror of Earth. There is also a human minority living there thanks to old changeling and "equivalent exchange" practices, but nowadays those things are banned because even the Fair Folk got hit by SJWs of some sort. For example, 'redcaps' got hit by this "human/fairy rights" thing and they are 'bluecaps' now (regular cops, since they aren't allowed to kill anymore they can't bathe their caps in blood). I have some "beautiful" elves somewhere in the setting but I haven't come up with a story to show them. Most of my stuff has been vampire gags.

Huh, I think I never shared this here. I'm making decent progress with my comic, hopefully I'll finish the whole first chapter by mid-October

Did you see my suggestions in the last thread? Not that you're obligated to follow, just I didn't get a reply and her arm's still pretty shortlooking in the sixth panel

please to resize. 1000 is a good size.

a lot less than it sucked before

Let's put it this way: criticizing the moderation is a good way to get a 3-day ban, so go to Sup Forums feedback and let them know exactly what's going on. They do listen, and things do change. but eventually, inevitably, the changes that have gone on in the last 7 years are going to / already have ruined Sup Forums

...

was your goal to make me think i'm having a fever dream?

...

Would this art style work for what I'm trying to do?
I feel like it takes me too long to render all the inking even if I'm doing it digitally.
Would it work better colored?

the inking shouldn't take that long given how solid it is, but... yeah this style is good. nice and stark and badass.
I'm enjoying these improvements over the last time, but you have left in one major problem: his shins are about half the length of his femurs.
I would also lengthen his arms just a tad. Compare Juggernaut, another very stubby character, who sometimes is actually drawn a little odd (I found a pic while image searching him where really the upper body and arms are too stubby but the legs are long), but for the most part looks badass.

Contrast like that fits with mostly anything, but if it takes you too long and you don't want that maybe try another alternative.

Maybe

I think the legs are giving me trouble because I want to give him baggy pants, so I keep thinking they shouldn't be too close to the body. But I should keep switching his anatomy to something that fits. thanks

Yeah, I'm afraid I really don't see it. The kid's arms are consistently 2 heads long, except for panel six, where it's foreshortened to 1.5 heads long.

I never go into these threads, I had an idea and felt like venting some of my anger.

is it funny?

It's kinda cheap and easy. Try pushing the joke further or giving it a twist.

Just so I know that you got it, one of the jokes is about how many web comic artists draw themselves as plain or ugly and they actually are quite attractive.

Did you get any of that?

I kinda got that, but I wasn't sure if it was intentional or if it was just about the glut of "oh-so-relatable losers". Maybe change the text so it's more like "Exercise is hard! Girls are scary!" in the first panel and the second one is "Another great comic in the archive. Now, back to the gym and my beautiful girlfriend." Make it more explicit, y'know? The difference in appearance might be ascribed to just a difference in style.

I was going to have more in depth dialogue, but I was a bit afraid it would be too on the nose.

Ill switch it up, thanks.

Better to lean towards being too on-the-nose than too vague, IMO. At least people will get the joke.
If you're worried about over-explaining, maybe try and communicate more of the difference with visuals than text (like, have him turned around, asking his beautiful GF if she wants to come with him to the gym now that he's done drawing).

Con- *burp* gratulations you have just been added to the rick and morty writers team, bitch! Wubbalubbadubdub

>iq: 230

I bet you 10 dollars that this character will not do a single genuinely smart thing, ever.

I kinda browsed your site the other day. I really should read through this. it looks wonderful

The highest possible IQ score varies by the test used, but I don't think any of them actually go up to 200.

You need specialized tests for serious outliers and it's hard to get a reliable number because of how few of them there are to compare between, but the record holder is probably somewhere between 250 and 300. This was a guy, mind you, who spoke and wrote six languages at the age of five and was giving lectures on 4-dimensional physics at Harvard at the age of eleven.

lol who the fuck are you, post your comic I just need to see the creative mind behind this post please please please

>foreground shoe is like half the size of background shoe on person who is not fuckhueg.

Dude
Come on

the writer has the mind of a teenager who watches too much anime, a character can only be as clever as the writer. it's not even a bet.

The Douglas Reading Comics is broken and has pages missing. Weak. I was just getting into it.

Eh, you can write people somewhat more clever than yourself - after all, you have a lot more time to think about their decisions than the characters do. Not to mention, you can ask for advice and look things up.

It's more accurate to say a character can only be as clever as the author can comprehend.

You can surpass your personal cleverness by tweaking solutions and scenarios from other works or collaborating with someone else. You can outpace your own personal wit by an absurd degree by planning, editing, and revising your writing. You can make a character more intelligent than you by letting them skip intermediate steps you require to learn and make them wiser by doing research and leaving elements you've yet to learn implicit.

But most writers don't bother, so it's kind of a moot point. The kind of person who thinks absurd IQ = smart rather than an insane aptitude for learning isn't going to put forth the effort.

You sound upset. Why is that?

Your just funny

These 2 make good points

Don't quote me, these guys are right
I just wanted to point out he could make a character smarter than himself but won't.

Don't forget the tranny wish fulfillment angle with the flawed-but-in-quirky-ways self insert female MC and her girlfriend who is super good at everything and stays calm and collected while the MC gets flustered, and the girlfriend's main function is to get the MC flustered in cute and quirky ways and show how much better she is at stuff than the MC. It's not a trope unique to that guy, I've seen other MtF artists do this too.

wait..he's a tranny? I never really read his comics, I thought it was some young boy.

Eh.. I think their art stinks but we could not shoo away our comic authors with transphobia and bigotry. Everyone's perspective is worth putting to paper.

I don't see why you brought that angle up when that played out dynamic is all over Japanese action comics (AoT, Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail, etc).

>shoo away our comic authors with transphobia and bigotry
Sup Forums really is tumblr lite

Might need more gore.

>Maybe we shouldn't shame art by its subject matter
>FUCKING TUMBLR REEEEEE
Why do you have to be like this?
Can't we just hate comics for being bad instead of whether or not a gay or transsexual factors in? Can't we say anything without labelling ourselves as this boogieman or that? This shit has to stop.

>we didn't bully you out of the thread, you just cant take criticism.

>i am so logical and sensible - me
>REEE I AM SILLY - others
Even down to the shitty strawmanning, basic tumblr bitch

>Implying we haven't been doing that on nearly every single Sup Forums board for over a decade.
I dunno, I think "REEEE TUMBLRRRR" is a pretty good approximation of name calling when someone suggests focusing on what's actually bad about something instead of how mental our contributors are. If we can tolerate Dave Sim and Gail Simone's respective breeds of stupidity surely we can hold these threads up to the same standard, right?

how would you guys draw a fight between a regular sized guy and a guy who can go giant or tiny

A regular sized guy and another guy, but taller (or smaller)

It depends on a lot of things. Is the power guy going to win or the regular guy? Easily? Close? Can the power guy change shape easily and quickly or does it take a bit? What is the regular guy armed with? Does he know kung fu or gun fu? Is the power guy armed or not?
