So what's the appeal of the series ? Sailor Moon nostalgia ? Or is the writing ok ? Any redeeming qualities for older viewers or should it be left to the younger audience.

>what's the appeal

Auriana is a hot slut

Honestly, eye candy.

So are all the good boyfriends in this show brown or am I missing something ? Every white or asian guy seems to be single or old.

Ill give you a hint, its in the name.

They're fifteen-sixteen. Too old.

or just right?

Not for a loli, no. But if you're into teens then I guess the show is for you.

bump

>So what's the appeal of the series ? Sailor Moon nostalgia ?

Definitely a part of it. It takes the fun tropes of Sailor Moon and other anime and presents it in a mostly wholesome, digestible western style. As a french show, however, it often feels a little bit "wink wink, nudge nudge".

>Or is the writing ok ? Any redeeming qualities for older viewers or should it be left to the younger audience.

Cute art, cute girls, good VA. Otherwise it will kind of feel like a kids show. If you like kids cartoons, especially if you like them for their innocent, formulaic comfort, you'll like Lolirock.

What should have been.

Wanting to do unspeakably lewd things to the three main characters.

I want to cook Auriana dinner, give her a shoulder massage and defile her girl parts.

Girl on right is a total dead ringer for Lila from Miraculous Ladybug (also French, and its creator works on this show).

Talia is nothing like Lila, Talia is awesome Lila is a bitch

So are those their real hair colors that just change when they transform or are those fake for camouflage ?

that is there real color, it changes when they transform

But when you see kid Talia her hair is blue, not brown ?

How can this be a real show? Does the word "loli" not imply creepy perversion to all normal people?

I think most normal people dont instantly jump to that meaning when they hear the term

just like I wouldn't expect them to understand the word hentai, or get the implication of phrases like rule 34 or rule 63, most people weren't raise online still

Staff explained that when they're born, the hair is their natural colors, but the magic in their planet's air seeps in and eventually turns it into the pastel.
Dunno about the case for these two.

The Team Rocket duo ruined the show for me, I found them so dull.

Doesn't change the fact that they are virtually identical in appearance. Even their names are similar.

>Sailor Moon nostalgia?
Yes.

>Or is the writing ok?
It's okay. There are a few things you might like relating to the fantasy world, although most of it is going to be for people who probably enjoy magical girl shows and just want something which isn't full of tripe. Most young girl cartoons tend to be simple-stupid, and it's nice to have one with a good message but still some decent characters.

The biggest draw for me was the whole dynamic between the main three girls. It's a bit different from what you'd expect, and the banter (also the banter between the twins) was quite good. That was probably my biggest disappointment in S2: they didn't really work the two newest girls in as well as they might've, so they still felt like hanger-ons.

Lyna and Carissa were kinda forced on the Team by execs, so they didn't have much time to work on them/flesh them out and ultimately that trickles down to the writers who know even less of what to do with them.
Carissa still best girl, Lyna got gipped in terms of focus.

I suppose.

Thinking about it really more, it's the banter which really brought out everyone's personalities. You really got to know Auri, Talia, and Iris through what they were talking about in their down time. It wasn't just Auri being hyperactive and Talia's studious habits, but also just how much time Talia and Auri spent talking with each other while Iris hung back, showing that the two had been together for a good amount of time. Carissa and Lyna's interactions were just... argue, then Lyna picks up Carissa with magic. Really, that was their biggest thing.

And while Lyna and Auri giggled over boys (for a minor personality quirk) the new two girls didn't really interact too much.

This is the first that I've heard of executives forcing Lyna and Carissa into the team, although I really wouldn't be surprised. There's also that so much more of S2 was focused on having other things happen (Dark Talia, Dark Auriana, Auri's cousin, Mephisto working with Iris and Carissa) that there wasn't much downtime or many episodes were you necessarily could've worked in the other two. They surely knew they weren't likely to get a 3rd season, and so they wanted to pack a lot of the plot points they could into S2 while they still had the chance.

>not liking Mephisto and Praxina

Just watch Show By Rock

The staffer that runs the blog popped into our old chatango every now and then and kinda told us how the broadcasters pushed for L&C to be around for s2, possibly for even more eps than they actually appeared.

And yeah, I too was expecting them to interact with the main girls more, particularly Cari learning discipline from Talia, being an apprentice of sorts.

It happens, only like 5%. When it first hit Netflix I remember an user coming into the thread after the first ep and immediately disliked them, probably the first time I had seen it here. I can admit their schtick can get old but I wouldnt outright despise them. But eh. Each their own.

Fair enough. I don't hang out on the chat and so probably miss whatever news gets trickled in there. Thanks for the update, anyways. I would like to see more involvement with Carissa and Lyna, but I guess that'll have to wait until I learn French better and can read the books.

The only anime about a band that I approve of is BECK.

I just remembered its been 3 years since the Hype Train and almost 3 years since the show came out proper.

Kinda curious how long our regulars have been here. With all the hiatuses and the Netflix pickup the fandom has generations now.

I don't think I've been in these threads for that long. I only browse Sup Forums occasionally and I didn't get into Lolirock until after S1 was complete, I'm sure. Would we really have "regulars" in these threads anymore, given how infrequent they are these days? Lolirock threads don't exactly get much conversation, after all, outside a few questions catching up on everything.

>that time when Auriana was going to be purple

Auri was all over the fucking place with color way back. I do actually like her in that purple, and hell Carissa would look p sweet in Auri's orange-yellow, if we end up at a swap.want a swap.

I mean I recognize a few anons in these that came on the different points of the fandom, few as there are, those are muh regulars.

oh wow

they wouldve been practically gradients but i wouldve loved it

They toyed around with character designs quite a bit. I remember that they said the original design for Iris was always going to have stars in her eyes, as her distinctive feature.

>I recognize a few anons in these that came on the different points of the fandom
Wow, you are doing far better than me if you can recognize people between threads. I mostly only remember your name since you were doing timing on transcripts for a bunch of S2 episodes, before the entire season was put up on Netflix at once.

I mean, maybe Aurianabro as well, since there's always one person wanting to talk about Auriana.

I honestly don't understand why they thought that they need girls other than Talia. She's just perfect.

>slut

No she's not, leave her alone

its not an insult

I love her for being a cute slut

t. Tila Tequila

She's not that slooty m8. I know we took liberties with her personality and all, but

I mean I dont actually think she is a slut, I just like calling her one

also she is basically trying to sleep with a new boy in every other episode

So.... Season 3 when?

Can someone explain to me why is there so little porn for this show ? It's a french cartoon with cute designs and girls of various shades, you'd expect it to have at least half of what Wakfu has in porn.

for one, Wakfu is significantly older

for two, I think its sadly an issue of viewership, I dont think many people have seen it, and it doesn't exactly have the quality of early Wakfu that drew people despite it not being on tv

Now I hope this will change over time with it being on Netflix now and hopefully a 3rd season coming but who knows

Wakfu S1 was a sort of event. It was unusually well-written and well animated and part of a big transmedia push that heavily relied on the internet and appealed to animation fans. Lolirock, however deightfully fuckable I think the cast is, is just marathon series #15 or so.

Ha ha ha ha.....
Oh user....

I unironically liked some of the songs.

I dropped the show after season 1. I was kind of disappointed that they didn't incorporate using music to fight, and instead the music was just a side thing.

>there's always one person wanting to talk about Auriana
I would be one of those people. But there's definitely more than one. Also:
>Delicious caramel coloured Auri
>Asian Talia
I thought I liked the girls just fine the way the were, now you tell me we could have had this?

Music was supposed (you'll hear this word a lot talking about this show) to have more of a role with their magic. However writing staff was their own entity from the rest of the creative team and they just completely forgot to use it.
>filename.png
Iris isn't KEKED

Love Auriana for who she is, not who she might've otherwise been.

The songs are mostly pop but quite good, even if they did overuse Revolution with the first handful of episodes.

>I was kind of disappointed that they didn't incorporate using music to fight, and instead the music was just a side thing.
They were planning on doing so (incorporating the crystals more, as well) but it sounds like they were in a rush to get stuff done and the idea just fell on the sidelines. Also, they were planning on having each spell related to a specific effect, mentioning Harry Potter as an example, but found out a bit later that different writers had attached different effects to the same spell, and so just used each spells as a "general" effect. (Crystal Offensio is a general attack spell, as opposed to specifically just shooting a crystal spear.)

Yeah, writers didn't give a fuck about keeping the spells consistent either. Talia was also meant to use illusions and tactical spells more, so the 3 Rocks all had their distinct specialities.

>Talia was also meant to use illusions and tactical spells more
Man, Miraculous REALLY spared no expense to recycle Talia with Lila.

I'm not sure what this meme is about, but thanks for helping to keep the thread alive.

POST MOAR SEXY TALIA!!!

>want to watch it
>it looks like a shit flash animation

There is any for Auri?

Sadly the earlier eps are super flashy, but animation picks up a little as it goes on.
I always suggest trying the first 6 eps. If you still can't stomach the ToonBoom then at least you gave it a fair shot.

...

I'm surprised it took this long

Nope, the guy who did it only cares for Best Looking girl

Thats not Lyna

Post characters who did nothing wrong

My negro.

Hot off the presses. Fair warning for season 2 spoilers

teamlolirock.tumblr.com/post/165771050888/praxina-the-new-evil-hi-guys-i-received-a-lot

Sailor Moon or any Magical Girl nostalgia.

The writing's entertaining and even clever sometimes on an episodic bases, but the obvious really wanted to do an ongoing arc while the powers that be where pushing back hard.
It shows.

The real draw are three main characters and the villainous twins. They're all likeable in their own way and bounce off each other well.

If you enjoy the Magical Girl genre you'll probably dig this. Or if you're a little kid.

Fuck I want some sort of continuation with her as the villain now.

Everyone does. The director and production manager have several plotlines for if and when we get more. Can't even share theoreticals since they might turn into major spoilers.

I'd like to see more of dark heroines.

Main trio in swimsuits when?

...

Every thread

Also funny to learn they didnt reuse Auri's beach outfit in season 2 because broadcasters banned the cleavage. Same for Iris' Batty outfit.

Where do you get this information?

>show gets good
>series end
every fucking time

I have a hard time believing that. Is it even on broadcast television in the US? Or was it another similarly prudish nation, Saudi Arabia perhaps?

Became acquainted with a staffer years ago when Sup Forums (and our cancer containment chatango) were the main game in town for the series. Over the years has been a fount of behind-the-scenes tidbits.
Still visits a few LR discord servers every once in awhile. And genuinely appreciates that there's love for the show on here, even if we're a smaller fandom.

so wait is the show officially over or are they holding out hoping to get the green light for a third season?

French broadcasters, LR was banked by France3 and Disney Channel France. So they had a lot of sway and last words on things, from minor shit like this to big things like Lev being more prominent in season 2
Honestly, even fucking Totally Spies barely had any. It just is or was a thing they have regarding kid's shows. This is all second hand, as I'm not super versed in French media guidelines.

>LR was banked by France3 and Disney Channel France
Well given which of those channels Wakfu was broadcast on with its copious cleavage, near-nudity and jiggling boob animations I think that gives us a pretty good idea who is to blame.

Good to know that our appreciation has reached the staff.

It's pretty much officially done, for all that matters. There's no news and no plans for a S3. I'm sure they could create new content if they spontaneously were asked to do a S3, but right now there's nothing indicating that will happen.

FOOOOOX !

It's shit, watch this instead.

Overrated.

Shit taste.

>People can't watch both
WITCH bros used to be chill, where the fuck did this aggressive shilling come from

>loliRock
>MCs are lolis
>Sup Forums likes it
Gee. I wonder.

>supposed
ah the thomas astruc trigger phrase

The MCs are actually too old to fit the definition. But that's not to say it doesn't contain some adorable lolis. Rock FOR lolis rather than rock BY lolis.

I watched the first episode out of curiosity
I dropped it after one episode because it felt like I was reading something that felt like way too many stories i've seen about being adopted and actually having magic parents have already done
There's an audience for it but I am not that audience

...

Maybe if there had been aggressive shilling back in the day the show wouldn't have been dropped after only 2 seasons for a strictly inferior ripoff.

I was not ready for that ep's Auri

I feel sorry for you.

Director and several others are definitely interested in a continuation, it's just that at the moment none of them are still at Zodiak Kids (formerly Marathon) so it's harder to access things like sales numbers and any talks about making more.
So its a small nugget of hope to hold on to, if you want it.

Alright, one last post for the road. It was nice seeing a live Lolirock thread again, and getting a bit of behind-the-scenes information that I didn't know about.

Let's just say they lost it after certain cheap rip off continued...

More anons will stumble into the show and find they enjoy it, and we'll have another bread. Rinse and repeat. It's good to share what nuggets I can remember about the production and the people behind it. Paints a bigger picture and give the show a little more.

If peeps are still around, found out a very interesting twist with Nathaniel today. Something that oh thank god they didnt do.

At any rate, i'll cap this with a vintage meme

oh baby, it's real?

>If peeps are still around, found out a very interesting twist with Nathaniel today. Something that oh thank god they didnt do.
Were they going to suddenly age him sixteen years in a random standalone episode and then pretend it never happened?

>If peeps are still around, found out a very interesting twist with Nathaniel today.
Do tell. Were they planning on having him come from Ephedia as well, or turning him into a magical guy at some point?
