Neo Yokio wackery crack pottery

Is Kaz possibly a transracialist?

Whenever his family members are shown we never see anyone black/poc, just all white people with a couple having pastel hair that seems to be the signature of the demon-slayers, Aunt Agatha being the palest of all and apparently the closest related to him

this could be a funny comment on appropriation and fetishization by rich white kids, especially with his best friend Lexy being like his urban culture coach

besides his dark skin, all his features are white (or Japanese if you go by the anime trope that the two are indistinguishable) and you can easily dread hair of any type

maybe the melanin is artificial, apparently there are shots one can take to the stomach to darken the skin

any other crack pot theories about this glorious shitshow?

Who cares, post best girl

>Helena
>best girl

I CAN SEE YOU, B I T C H

Too bad our hillbilly is dead user, she was a nice girl.

I hope demons can come back.

Here's a crackpot theory:

The show is supposed to be a satire. But when the wrote it, they actually didn't give a fuck.

Pretty crazy, huh?

Kaz -is- known to be pretty inept slayer

I think it came out exactly as they intended it to

it's a low-budget anime with a faux-high-brow bent

it has a long way to go in terms of quality, but I found it charming enough to watch all six episodes

Was she a demon all along, or did she get possessed, or let herself get possessed, or what? I'm only halfway through so far.

It's never properly explained, but apparently she was a demon all along, there's the theory that the "demons" in Neo Yokio are actually just poor people of America who want revenge on the city because of how it uses it suburban areas, so she could be just that.

she was a demon all along pretending to be human, no possession involved

it does beg the question of whether her whole backstory of being from North Cackalacka was fake, maybe she originated from there and took on a human form and has been busing her way to popstardom

her accent seemed genuine anyways

I like to think she was the same demon possessing the Chanel suit that took over Helena and that's why they both are such anti-capitalists, Sailor influenced Helena's subconscious

>Transracialist
You mean blackface?

pretty much, but as a lifestyle/identity, like Rachel Dolezal or that crazy German bitch from Maury

Kaz is Lana Wachowski in blackface

Can you shills fuck off already.

What noooo this is tooootally organic and not shilling at allllll.

>any other crack pot theories about this glorious shitshow?
The magistocrats are responsible for the occult activities in Neo Yokio. Keeps with the "all is not as it seems" theme, and generally backs up the way Aunt Agatha acts about anything involving money and jobs. She's conning everyone. Kaz just hasn't been initiated into the ruse yet.

What other things are we not allowed to talk about here because the make you have autistic rage?

Am I late to the thread? I brought something.

ok wow, i'm shocked i didn't notice that

>thread about something you don't like
>obviously it must be a corporate shill pandering to a niche board normies have never heard of

OKAY

YES

YES

if they don't go this route they've squandered an epic premise

I really want to see other magistocrats and their little secret society, great opportunity to play with the whole Illuminati meme

the initiation is a great idea and then Kaz becomes a rebel against the system, having to fight his own aunt (allowing us to see Agatha use her powers)

I don't think that she has any powers.

no, b-but I don't know if I deserve this big Toblerone

I don't see why she wouldn't

maybe magic is strenuous and she tries not to use it for her health due to her age

maybe she's doing even more high-profile exorcisms that we don't see behind the scenes

I feel like she wouldn't be considered a magistocrat if she couldn't use magic at all, even if she did have the heritage

this is a better young Agatha

You can have it user, I wasn't going to eat it anyway.

...

I just watched it and it was actually enjoyable. Better than most seasonal anime actually.

So I watched the first episode of this and it was probably the worst thing I've ever seen. This is unenjoyable even from an ironic perspective because it's so damn cliche and boring. I'm convinced all the positivity in this thread is shilling. You people are black hearted scum of the earth, destroyer of men, harbingers of deceit and chaos. And if you aren't a shill, you're degenerate weeb with shit taste and I'm not sure what's worse.

I guess I enjoyed it because it took it with the attitude I usually take abridged series like YGOTAS. It's not a serious show.

...

It's really slow even by the standards of YGOtAS, Ghost Stories, or anything you might compare it to. I think that when they finished it, they realized it was terrible and they hoped they could bill it as a comedy, but the pacing is just way too slow.

its sloppy but charming, like your ex who's an unemployed stoner you let crash on your couch from time to time

they come from a rich family and got kicked out and cutoff but were so privileged and sheltered they can't function in society

mostly vacuous and memey but occasionally erudite and canny

I actually enjoyed how it would be absurd one moment and then earnest another

they could definitely up the wack factor next season, but I think they want to maintain the chill vibe they've established

YGOTAS and Ghost Stories were all about joke after joke and reference after reference, NY is in the same vein but dialed back

the drama is taken fairly seriously when it happens and the references are mostly obscure

it was always intended to be a comedy though

What drama? What scene did you think was dramatic? There's a lot of slow non-story spiced up by the occasional "what the fuck" moment.

Kaz being an ass towards Lexy and Cathy at the party in the Hamptons

the squalor and suffering of the people in the walled city

the Remembrancer was goofy but he was treated as a real threat and generated some tension to the story

basically whenever there were action scenes there would be jokes peppered in but the characters would still be invested in surviving

it's definitely a comedy, but compared to YGOTAS and Ghost Stories it takes itself a bit more seriously at times, it has weight to it

I found myself caring about the characters

The entire thing is about Kaz. Kaz is the world and the universe. Everything from the drama he makes to the trials he has to overcome are emptily made for him. My only impression of Kaz from all the "drama" in the show is that Kaz is an empty, vapid puppet of a creature, narrowly obsessed with clothing and the minutiae of his banal, upper-class existence. Jaden Smith brings no charisma or charm to the performance, and the script itself is bereft of humanity. The only moments that remind you a living being wrote this script is the occasional candid swearing. In fact, I'm convinced the only reason we keep seeing Tolberone is because they may have helped finance the project.

I think the most likely thing to say about the anime is that they're marketing it as a comedy to salvage the money they wasted on it.

Nigga, its so fucking obvious that this is a comedy since the start. Actualy, the writters said that they had an opposite direction into it.

The original idea was for each episode to parody one different kind of anime (you can still see traces of it), but at the middle of the season they actualy liked the characters. And yeah, Kaz is a little shit that thinks that the world revolves around him, thats part of the point.

Also, I agree with the other user, its like an abridged anime.

Except an abridged anime actually revolves around comedy. It has pacing and a script that makes internal sense.

The fact that the writers confess they weren't able to nail down a direction or plan for the show doesn't reinforce the idea that the show is a comedy. If you make a thirty minute cartoon and twenty minutes of it is pointless, dull, slow, and not comedic, it doesn't matter that you originally intended to do something and then went another way.

I can't fathom how the writers managed to like Kaz enough to say "Well we just had to change the script for his benefit!" He suffers from the same problem of "Perfect Hair Forever", where a boring, unlikable protag drags everything down, but they lack the self-awareness "Perfect Hair Forever" excused itself with.

>Except an abridged anime actually revolves around comedy

The entire show is comedy mate.

>It has pacing and a script that makes internal sense.

What is wrong with the pacing? Its easy and even normal. Can you name what was so weird regarding passing or you are just using buzzwords?

>The fact that the writers confess they weren't able to nail down a direction
But nothing that I wrotte implied that.

>If you make a thirty minute cartoon and twenty minutes of it is pointless, dull, slow, and not comedic,
Well user, I just think that it got over your head, just because the characters werent screaming. The humor comes in different shapes, from the characters taking dumb frivolous shit seriously, to super weird choices for voice actors.

> can't fathom how the writers managed to like Kaz
Do....you really think that he is on the right? Eve when multiple characters pointing out how a vapid fag he is?

>The pacing of Neo Yokio is normal
Oh fuck off. Even the dead would say this show is slow. At this point I'm inclined to agree with the other user that called this a shill thread, because one person cannot possibly hold the stance of "it's ironically funny, I swear, but also it's very serious and very dramatic and I respect that".

Im not the user that said that its very serious or dramatic tho.

Sorry you aren't cultured enough to enjoy something on more than one level, user. Maybe one day you'll be able to like things for what they are instead of what they aren't.

All I'm saying is, you can't make your pacing "ironically" slow, and you can't make your main character "ironically" less interesting than your living room carpet. If you intentionally make a character unlikable, as a joke, then the character is unlikable. You don't cast Jaden Smith to play a part you want people to like, and having an unlikable main character who ultimately succeeds in every episode is not a clever twist.

There's a certain amount that I'd believe the writers thought they were being funny, but their incredible lack of ability is a part of it. The only reason some parts are funny is because those rare "what the fuck" moments are like a stab in the chest while the rest of the show is like a pillow being pressed over your face, quietly suffocating you.

When did Kappa Mikey get a sequel?

I never said it was very serious/dramatic

it's a ridiculous parody, it just takes itself more seriously compared to an abridged series

it's a comedy with a little bit of weight to ground it and make you care about the characters

in regard to Kaz, he's a dumbass brat but I found him really cute, it's mostly his design and animation but Jaden's delivery did grow on me somehow

were you the user who said they only watched the first episode?

>terrifying.jpg
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

I watched it all, and it really doesn't get better. It's a fascination from a technical perspective. I have to wonder how and why it was produced, but I don't detect any amount of skill going into it. There's plenty of accidental comedy. Characters doing things that may have been held over from a previous script, or clashing so badly with the events on screen that the absurdity warrants a chuckle, but the show never grows into nor does it reveal itself as an ironic comedy.

It plays out like a very bad show with very bad writers, and the writers occasionally threw in jokes because they figured people can't say you're retarded if you fail on purpose.

...

nice. very well put

>tfw that country ass voice gets me rock hard.
>that one camera centered on her butt.
>Would legitimately be supportful and encourage you to be your best

If only she wasn't a damn demon.

Man, I just think that you are kind of stupid, because it looks like you are watching a parody thinking that it was the real deal.

How can you watch an old fat sailor wink at MC after he asks him to undress the racer costume of the Soviet girl that run away....and not see that this is a comedy?

The entire tuxedo subplot in episode two was executed perfectly and anyone who says otherwise is a liar.

you really don't think the clash was intentional?

I don't think any of the comedy was accidental

for example, people complain about the lips not syncing with the voice acting, but it's an obvious stylistic choice to parody English dubs of anime

what made you get through all six episodes if it was such a slog to you?

I actually get why a lot people don't like it, but the world building really hooked me and the characters endeared themselves

you can tell the creators really like early 2000's anime, I feel like it's a love letter to that era, the one before the lolis and moe blobs took over

I saw somewhere that the old lady on the mechanism is a parody of lolis. She takes the spot and behavior that usually would be given to a loli fanservice.

I think it was a badly put together show written by untalented hacks who are now "pretending" to be retarded so that when people call them retarded, they can act like their critics aren't in on the joke.

Truth is, it's just a shitty show, the production quality is awful, the characters lack charisma, the amusing portions are few and far between, and it's not that much worth watching.

I'm not the guy you responded to but I felt like I should chime in.

This is not a parody. This is a straight up bad show. The writers might want to satirize the elements, which there are far to many of, they present but it never pays off because they are completely out of their depth and lack the focus needed to effectively deconstruct said elements. They put no spin on any of the elements to be considered satire. Just having horrible qualities in a show doesn't make it some meta statement on the medium as a whole. Plus Jaden Smith's performance was so laughably bad I would rather watch the behind the scenes footage of the producers lie to Jaden saying he did a good job. This was lazy, pretentious, schlocky, technically abhorrent animated garbage.

are you kiddin me?

that's what tipped her into waifu territory for me

demons are guaranteed kinky and if Sailor comes back they can play up a Romeo&Juliet/Batman&Catwoman dynamic between her and Kaz

>Sup Forums actually enjoys the shittiest current year pastiche of anime

makes you think

You guys must be a real hit at parties.

i'd say it's pretty divisive/polarizing actually

It's not a parody of anime.

It's a parody of the upper class.

user, I don't mind demon girls.
In fact, they often make or break a waifu

But I can't fuck a skull. Especially a Hirst
They never did explain if she could go back to human form

The only pottery I can think of is the ending and how kaz kaan is trapped in a neverending cycle representative of both the stagnation of materialistic city life and the state of being an anime protagonist.

>all these people who aren't in on the joke cant enjoy it.

Really makes you think huh?

Nigga, second episode had fangirls trying to sacrifice a dude to demons because a fashion blogger got possessed. This after they deciding to become hikkokimori.

It also had a teacher who lives in a small apartament and likes to brag about not being like the other upperclassmen, who also had a closet with the size of a football field.

I really don't know how you can see this and not see that it's a parody of wealth new York and anime.

okay, but why did you watch all the episodes then?

this question is for you and the above user, do either of you have any nostalgia for early 2000's anime? or even a familiarity with it and its tropes?

I feel like that's the critical appeal of this show, without it I would definitely see how it could come off as nothing but dumb and shallow

I don't think you understand what satire is because that's just a bunch of forced bullshit

I don't see why she couldn't corporealize again, maybe she just needs to time to gather her strength

how is it forced?

the characters treat it as natural parts of their lives and it all fits into the themes of the narrative

no one ever really points out the satire and winks to the camera, they don't engage with the 4th wall and live fully in the Neo Yokio world

the satire is all consistent with the character growth of Helena and then Kaz, capitalism and materialism are inherently soulless and in no way altruistic

pursuing fame and attention will never satisfy you

authority can never be trusted, society unfairly favors the privileged

etc. etc.

This show is a great pleb filter, like Xavier.

People are saying this has slow pacing? Lmao

it's a very specific parody for a small window of Millennials of a certain age

ikr

Was The Remembrancer human? Was he psychic? How did he seem to know where Helena was at all times? How did he just so happen to be at the train station? Is he a ghost? What was his deal?

>Kaz will never give you a big toblerone

I'm not a weeb and I enjoyed it. Drama queen ass faggot.

This realization made me feel like Charles

>there will never be a season 2

then you a shill that lack skill and you should suck on some pills

We don't know for sure yet user, we can still hope.

Jaden seemed to like it and his dad is the only reason this got made in the first place, and normies are sharing it on twitter so maybe.

>an actual human bean wrote this

lel I thought the same thing about this garbage ass anime pretentious bullshit

what makes you so certain, user?

sure it was made in 2015, but it's getting a fair amount of attention and I could see it getting a bigger Voltron-level animation budget from Netflix for a 2nd season

Kaz and Charles as Pipimi, and Popuko, when?

i feel like you're either an spergie thirty-something who prefers classic anime if any anime at all or you're a middle schooler whose first anime was Yo-kai Watch or nu!squishy!Pokemon or Sword Art Online (not dissing those shows, just a different vibe from what NY is referencing)

like i said, the show is really niche and I don't think it was designed/intended for broad appeal

oh you know what, maybe you were actually really into the era of anime it references but take those shows too seriously, even to this day, y'know, due to your hyper-autism

>garbage ass anime pretentious bullshit
yeah bruh, that's the whole premise, that's why we like it

Nah man I don't watch television. I'm in my mid twenties and I have sworn an oath to defend my people from trash degeneracy like this. You will not win this war. The tides are already turning. The media has lost the zeitgeist and you will never get it back. People are no longer tuning in. I will bear all to save my people from being subverted by propaganda such as this. Take your commie posturing and tell your masters to be very afraid.

I would not be surprised if the new Poptepipic strips referenced NY, fits the oeuvre/vibe

I could even see expies in Neo Yokio of Pi and Po in the bg or for a couple gags

>I don't watch television
>sworn an oath
>this war
>the zeitgeist
>propaganda
>your commie posturing
>your masters

oc copypasta??

For the last fucking time, I'm not buying skyrim again Todd

Thanks for the Tobleroneā„¢, friend!

you're funny
please continue

Nah, but if there was anywhere Helena would be, it would be somewhere where Kaz is. probably his house.

And there was only one train leaving the city at the time. Helena wouldve most likely tried to skip town. It was only a matter of time, until they ran into each other.

the blue eyebrows imply he probably has blue hair, which could indicate he's either a magistocrat or a demon posing as one

the twist of the series could be that the demons ARE the magistocrats, either astral projecting or that's the next stage of their life cycle, so they're more like ghosts than demons

it'd be really cool if Sailor shows back up as a magistocrat who explains all this to Kaz, maybe she's even related to the Remembrancer, like he's her Aunt Agatha figure

>How did he seem to know where Helena was at all times?
he knew she was with Kaz
>How did he just so happen to be at the train station?
he had been stalking her and Kaz the whole day

I mean, we know literally nothing about magic and sorcery in this world, the only characters we've seen performing magic were Kaz, his cousin and the demons, and it was all pretty vague, so the remembrancer could be many things.

Maybe it's not supposed to matter at all in the end of things.

You really have no idea what's going to transpire. A slow shift in public consciousness is happening that your soulless machines can't detect. I'm here to make sure it happens. History, and more importantly, God will not look kindly on those that did the devil's deeds during the time of revelation. You will face unwieldy condemnation as I am the Trumpeter, and your lies the walls of Jericho.

>meta-meta-satire
Shit, we're losing him

You could say Kaz is the full meta alchemist

he isn't an alchemist though so this joke sucks

>Trumpeter
run along to your containment board, user

It like you are a character from the show!

"full meta exorcist" works though

I bet they even used it in the pitch

You fool. Pic related will be your fate like countless before you. Reverse your wicked behavior or face just punishment.
