A non Disney reboot of American Dragon. How mature would you make it and what would you change? I personally would love to see some get the rights from Disney and make a TV-14 to -TV-PG show for adult swim or Netflix.

This show had so much waisted potential and an awful second season. The idea is waisted sitting in Disney's copyright hell.

man been a while since American dragon, does it still hold up?

No cartoons past the 00's hold up unless they have your fetish. Why do you think nobody ever talks about the plot whenever we have Totally Spies threads?

I remember the early episodes being kino but remember it all going to shit when they changed animation styles. I'd have to rewatch but I also remember it being cringy at times. Hence why I think the IP should be placed in proper hands.

Make it so Jake Long actually talks like a regular human being instead of whatever the fuck they tried to do with him in the Disney show.

>No cartoons past the 00's hold up unless they have your fetish.

I'll have you know that the BEST cartoons come from that era.

Lol. Yeah. Half asian trying to talk "gamgsta". He ruins an other wise decent theme song.

>W.I.T.C.H
Man my school friends were right, I really was a massive fag.

I don't know if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me. (Or neither.)

Well the three you posted there are the only exceptions

Just put Christian values in the show. Who cares for (((Bob Iger))), (((Michael Eisner))) and their (((copyright pals)))?

Three? I genuinely don't understand.

This show had a great premise but poor delivery.
The main problem is that they're trying to keep the fact that dragons exist a secret, but yet he flies all around the place in open daylight.

A reboot should have him more, hiding along the shadow and keeping out of sight.

Maybe to story should be changed to jake discovering his powers, maybe he doesn't know how to change back into human form,
his family are on the run from hunters so most of what jake does is ensure they arn't discovered instead of battling a monster of the week,
the other magical elements of new york should probably be dropped as well,

also make him a likeable character instead of poochie the dog.

I was trying to bait and start an argument of which were the best but I guess it didn't work out that well...

Notice how Sup Forumsfags don't even know how to make jokes. Literal subhumans.

I disliked how they never examined the psychological ramifications of a teenage boy being able to turn into a hulking dragon on a whim, as the heir to a line of ancient mystics that are inherently more deeply connected to the nature of the universe than other humans. Yes, he's got to deal with keeping it a secret and his family responsibilities. I just remember that when I was a teenager, the background radiation of my stupid teenage life included a lot of questioning of who I was both as a physical being that had to compete with my peers and as the metaphysical culmination of a lineage that I didn't know or understand. I'm sure most teenage boys had similar feelings, somewhere in the back of their mind.

Both of those things are solved for him. So, what does that mean for how he relates to the world?

>metaphysical culmination of a lineage that I didn't know
You could've just said you're American

You want anime. A-N-I-M-E.

Go watch some right now!

The whole part about his Mom marrying a goofy white guy and not telling him she's a dragon was hilarious. That part should be kept but maybe tonned down. I can't remember if he ever found out.

But I agree. Show should take notes from Danny Phantom and actually show a inner struggle for Jake to keep hidden. Have him lose control more or even fear his power.

Also the magic should be tonned down as well. There was way to much magical shit that was just bearly hidden from humanity. Fucking fairies and leprechauns were all over the damn place.

Worse, African American. My family's been here longer (and been citizens longer) than most of the people here, but the best I can do past shitty property records is sending my spit to 23 And Me and hoping that a) they're not hacks, and b) they don't sell my genetic profile to Raski Redovitch.

Danny Phantom had a similar premise but did it a lot better because the metaphors and struggles were a big part of the show. His body is changed and he's has to keep it secret or else his life is ruined. Show focused to much on comody as most Disney shows do, and it was too child friendly to go deep.

>Also the magic should be tonned down as well. There was way to much magical shit that was just bearly hidden from humanity. Fucking fairies and leprechauns were all over the damn place.
This. There needs to be some sort of thematic thread running through all the magic stuff. Look at Secret Saturdays (where every cryptid invariably fits a visual design standard) and Tokyo Afterschool Summoners (where every magical being is invariably sexy).

what is the anime that most closely resembles what user described?

boku no pico

thats what I meant, the show didn't know whether to be a superhero show or harry potter, whats the point of getting extraordinary dragon powers if your just going to be normal in the magical side of new york?

Blue Exorcist and maybe Naruto. The fact that everybody is a Ninja kind of offsets the being possessed by a demon thing.

this, its where the whole appeal of urban fantasy is

Maybe also instead of the Huntsclan or maybe in addition too. Have some branch of the government involved, with consequences of both him, mom, gramps, and the sister getting shipped off to some lab.

yeah, it could be a whole arc.

Im going to say a dangerous word: slice-of-life,
People do enjoy seeing how people with superpowers enjoy their day-to-day life.

also, talking dog or not?

The dog Fu had even more of a "rap lingo" problem then Jake. This was Disney trying to be hip at the time. I say his character can be tweeked or replace. It makes sence for the grandfather to have an assistant of some sort.

Also, new Jake should be based off season one. When he lost the bulk he looked less cool. Also the smile on the thin one. I don't like it.

what about this artstyle?

Bob Iger is literally the merchant. He denies that Disney has become political but they very clearly have from Marvel comics to freaking ESPN. The sooner he's gone the better. I blame the changes of Disney on him because its just too wide spread.

That works.

Do you want to turn into a dragon, Sup Forums?

Only if it's anthropomorphic

yes, its the only superpower I want.

how would you use your powers?

>No one at my school was into w.i.t.c.h
>but everyone was into winx in my country
Or season 1 atleast.

Those designs are so terrible. The writing is so terrible. What the fuck do people see in that show?

I remember sneakily playing with my sister's Stella and Sailor Venus. It's funny in hindsight how they both wore orange cause I never liked that color very much.

I just want to see better porn of the mom.

What the fuck is Special Mention?

Probably not the way they should be intended

>no Danny Phantom
Shit list

I'd dump Jake and make it about his mom being the dragon changing person who has to come out of retirement due to the awakening of an ancient evil, etc, etc.

Bump

Did you even click on the chart to see the full-size version?

I would just revert the show artstyle to its first season style and stop making Jake try to sound like a black kid, that shit never worked.

>does it still hold up
it's a fucking childrens' cartoon not a cabernet sauvignon

Flying around is how most people would spend their Dragon time. Even Captain Marvel from DC comics does that

Definitely flying. Might even go to the mountains to melt snow in an controled environment.

Danny Phantom is one of the few cartoons I actually had to drop, because it was so bad.

I LOVED the idea of this show. I remember hanging promotional posters for the show that I found on magazines on my wall. Classmates made fun of me because I was kinda "old" I guess (11 maybe?) for liking kid's shows... Anyway, it was a disappointment at the end. I don't even remember one single episode I liked or anything.
Grandpa dragon looked cooler than Jake.
Pic related, a very mature comic. hehe.

>Those designs are so terrible
Tecna was my only cartoon crush before I found my waifu.
May have had more to do with her powerset.

You pick waifus based on... powersets? Not looks? Okay then.

>tfw you will never watch Teen Titans for the first time again

Crush.
Mami is my waifu.

*with her powerset though.

>
>make the father the main character
>the mother is a dragon too
>the show is about the human father trying integrate and take care of his dragon family
>they're in dragon form most of the time when at home or when visiting magical places
>their human forms are just disguises to fit in the human world
>the dad has to deal with raising dragon kids and the awkwardness of that combined with not knowing everything about dragon culture/biology/magical shit/etc
>has to deal with the fact all his family can easily pick him up or that they can fly and breath fire and such
>have him be in over his head a lot of times but still really tries to be a good father/husband
>have some touching moments with him defending his family against some supernatural monster he has no chance against because he's a normal human
>lots of scenes big female dragon wife cuddling her smaller human husband

Shut up and take my money

>op]
me too

there's also family to boot with citizenship

"then i suppose"

HAHAHAHAHA

I need this.

tails can be a lot of fun in bed

come on guys be more creative

He's half Asian, but looks completely Asian

Yeah shows focus too much on kids
I want more non adult shows focused on the adults.
When i was a kid the adult life was always far more fascinate to me than the boring teenager problems.

Only one solution.

Please stop posting your list everywhere. Most people disagree with at least parts of it and you posting your extremely subjective list as if it were a factual point in so many threads has to be some form of autism.

First of all, if you're posting anywhere on Sup Forums, let alone this ultimate autist board, you're autistic.
Second, that list is basically as objective as it gets

>Disney
>giving up rights to anything

Yes. Being human sucks. I don't know why so many people are attached to it.

>Any of the big 3 giving up rights to anything
Come on man, it's not just Disney.

youtube.com/watch?v=FwFe8XXmsIM

Every time I listen to this, I think of that first flight scene in How To Train Your Dragon, from the viewpoint of the dragon. When the music crests at 0:53, I imagine reaching the apex of a climb, above the clouds, laying back, closing my eyes and falling backwards towards the sea, knowing my wings will catch me at the last minute.

Flying must be wonderful.

I remember reading about how popular w.i.t.c.h. was in Italy, and thinking that Winx Club was somehow the American adaptation.

Thin pretty chicks. Also the exclusivity of it being a "club". Little girls are into nothing if not being able to clique up and exclude other little girls.

well you could just listen to it while you do it.

they gave up the rights to power rangers and digimon.

im still hoping for gargoyles

Was Professor Rotwood a nazi?

Sounds kinda like a comedy/adventure version of Wolf Children. I'd watch it.

can't it be both?

so which would you rather the more serious action show or ?

I don't remember the mom being a dragon. Doesn't it skip a generation?

Man, that's gotta suck.

A little bit of both? Comedy/dramas are fairly popular now. Add some action to it and I can see it working.

>who is (((Michael Eisner)))

I have a feeling they put up that excuse so they didn't have milf dragon TF on a kid's cartoon. Still bullshit, tho.

FUS RO DAH!

>they gave up the rights to power rangers and digimon.im still hoping for gargoyles
He's talking about original properties, dumbass.

>Algerian Dragon
>Teenager with dragon powers hunts down nazi war criminals
>American Dragon meets Return to Castle Wolfenstein

He finds out in the last ep of season 2

Jonathan Long and the Huntsmaster have the same VA

legitimately interesting and relatable.

I would also add:
> human form is uncomfortable, and even plain unpleasant during moments of intimacy

I could see the main character initially and recurrently being terrified of his family but nonetheless using the foundation of love he has built to better understand them and their ways.

on a further note, making psychologies different from ours relatable is really, really hard.

we're not talking just about culture which has are fundamental, objective human qualities.

we're talking about lizard which may be comfortable eating their own children a few weeks after birth. or creatures that will generally eat a hundred humans even though five at once is enough to poison them.

and those aren't the "evil" dragons. those are the normal ones.

So we are stuck with uber progressive Disney forever.

pretty much, unless something big happens. But in a case big enough to take out Disney's leadership, it would probably just collapse the whole company instead.
Poor Walt. He'd be spinning in his grave if he could see the state of his corporation now.

That's another reason I wish anouther studio would by and helm a American Dragon reboot. The quality of Disney products have just dropped so dramatically. A reboot done by them today might be even worse then season 2 in both animation and writing.

we might see that happen very soon, I don't want to talk about it in case i jinx it,

lets just say maybe by the end of the year there will be a great disturbance, as if millions of voices cried out in disappointment and went to twitter

bump

>the quality of Disney products have just dropped so dramatically
I know, right? Disney's done annoying progressive stuff before, but it never affected the quality of their movies like this. I don't care if the Princess and the Frog was made to pander to the "diversity" crowd, that was a worthwhile flick. But their newer films like Star Wars 7 and Moana are just shit, both the characters and the story. They took great concepts and butchered them, and after that it becomes a lot harder to tolerate their uber-progressive bullshit.

Also, I loved American Dragon when I was younger, it sucks that it will probably never get a reboot because there was so much more that could have been done with it.

Disney is so powerful that one scandal or box office flop won't do anything. Even if they had 20 scandals and 20 box office flops in a row, nothing would happen aside from their stock price dropping a little. They just have too many sources of revenue. Anything big enough to alter Disney's leadership or collapse the company would end up affecting/collapsing the telecommunications industry as a whole.

has disneyworship been as bad as it was since when frozen came out, I mean has the fanbase been as bad?
