That's still a good half hour runtime added to the full runtime. It only took about half an hour in volume 3 between Penny dying and Yang losing her arm.

14 episodes help, especially since volume 4 was too short. But volume 4 also suffered because of strange pacing and bad writing, which are harder to fix.
Ruby's trailer was shown before volume 4.
If it's anything like volume 4 at least one character is gonna get shafted on screentime to make room for all the other plots they have to fit in one volume

V4 was also saddled by brand-new production pipeline and entirely new software which needed all assets to be remade.
One of the animator said that they are confident in V5 because now they have experience on the whole thing as well as having started production several months earlier. Not having the story split four ways the constantly should also make the writing easier.
Iunno, I'm feeling cautiously hyped for V5 already.

There was also that one time that Funhaus accidentally stumbled on RWBY porn on this one demo disk video. The worst part was it took them a little while to realize, "Oh shit this is RWBY, our company makes this."
And of course Barbara was super happy that Mica found RWBY doujins in Japn.

The actual boss was Tyrian but he was beaten by Qrow on behalf of he party.

Nuck wasn't the best by far but it was fantastic compared to those 2.
JNPR vs. BRNZ was good till the mid-fight comedy.

Animation wise, I think the Grimm geist and sea serpent were worse.
The Nuck fight was bad because nothing happened. There were no consequences. The build up was great but the delivery failed.

They really need to explain this, that the Nuck was a fusion between two Grimm. How do Grimm fusions happen? Are they rare? Is it a new thing or have Grimm always been able to do that? Is it natural, or part of a experiment by Salem? Was it a bad fusion, because only one half could move at a time.
This could be interesting. Or it was just something they made up to make the fight easier to animate, and make it easier for characters to win.
The build-up for that fight was good. The glimpse we got of the Grimm through the smoke before was really cool.
It's such a shame that the entire fight was just forgettable at best.
It would've been a neat detail for Jaune to notice. They build him to be a master tactician and then they forget to actually make him make any innovative decisions.
Having him notice the pattern and yell something about a fused Grimm would've been so much better for his character.

I imagine that had they not wasted the school part of the show, we would have learned about this via lessons at Beacon.
Since we know from the "canon till it's not" manga that a certain type of Grimm can fuse other Grimm together that for a better union a catalyst Grimm is needed or you get an imperfect fusion.

I hope (and guess) that Grimm fusions are a new thing, a sign that the Grimm are changing, evolving, becoming stronger and more intelligent. It's a step toward Grimm humanoids, and maybe eventually Grimm/human hybrids. The Grimm are quite similar to Bleach's Hollows, who can evolve to become stronger, faster and significantly more intelligent to the point they look very human. Then can become even more powerful, intelligent and human by becoming a hybrid between Hollow and Shinigami.

As someone who was stupid enough to actually get excited for that fight, I'm glad they cut out the JP/SN fight because of how bad the first fight was.

I genuinely hate those fights because they seem like massive wastes of time for everyone involved, from the people who worked on it to the people who watched it. Just, why was it even included in the first place? It does nothing for Scarlet and even less for Sage (great first impressions by the way), and while I guess they were trying to compensate for Neptune in V2, instead of putting in effort to improving his writing they took the lazy route and just made him a shitter.

Then cut it. Seriously, cut the episode. The SSSN fight is the worst garbage to come out of this show, and while the JNPR was the best of the three 4v4, that's hanging so low it's brushing against earthworm shit. The entire episode is filler, and I would legitimately scrap the whole thing if the time and resources wasted on it could be used to improve other aspects of the volume.

I have some questions for those who are following this show
- Why is this not considered anime? I saw in the other thread this show has a lot of acceptance in japan and some of their characters were already included in a fighting game.
- Should I waste my time into watching this? Is it worth it? I heard lot of bad things about the show like shitty writting and characters and the animation is pretty bad but I also see real discussion of the show.
Not buying it. The best fight in volume 4 was the first one they made, in Ruby's trailer. Weiss and Blake's trailer fights had all the problems V4's had: slow paced with things standing around looking menacing but without a lot actually happening. I don't think inexperience with the new animation software is the problem.
It's a mixed bag.
It's not considered anime because it's made in Texas and the weeb definition of anime is made in glorious nippon, therefore is not anime.
The first three seasons are very rough animation wise and the voice action borders on "you can do an accent, you got the job" at times.
However the ending of V3 makes it all worth it and V4 has teething problems and pacing issue but is a step in the right direction.
They spent a lot of time on that character short, so they had a lot of time to polish it because it was going to represent the entire volume and by proxy the rest of the post-Monty series.
And the animator literally said that he's a lot more confident in V5 with V4 under their belts. I'd take his word for it.
He's their employee. What do you expect him to say? "No sorry actually the new fights are all going to suck just as much."?
It's not a terrible series but it isn't the best.
It's got potential but stays mediocre with a great many charming elements that would be great if they were fleshed out and given more thought.
The writers are used to comedy and not adventure series, they just haven't found that flow and are struggling to do it justice.
TL;DR: If you got the time, binge it and see what you think.
If you don't then drop in for a thread or two but otherwise pay it no mind.

1) Purists say that it's not an anime because it's not made in Japan, citing Spongebob. Some say that it is, citing its aesthetic and how Japan calls everything animated an "anime."
You can just call it an "American anime" if you want to trigger the most obnoxious autists on both sides.
2) It's basically a workaholic's pipe dream of making a series so he could animate cute grills fighting. The fight scenes and character design are the biggest draws of the series, and storytelling does lag behind to catch up. The first "season," which was split into three half-seasons called volumes are rough at times when people aren't fighting.
Every volume has been a notable improvement over the previous ones, though.
Binge-watch it for the fights and stay for the waifus.

Just try it yourself, if you’re curious. You’ll get a good enough idea of it by a few episodes in. If you like what you see, then stick around. It improves as it goes on.

Back from nycc. Yang short is her an Ruby sparring so Yang can feel better about leaving Ruby home alone before starting Beacon. A Grimm shows up. Something something Flash forwards to Yang, she’s still on her motorcycle from vol 4 end. They showed a teaser for some new animated show. Sci-fi, robots, takes place in NYC? Looks to be the same kind of animation as RWBY.
It's also worth noting that every volume/season (whatever you wanna call it) is about the length of a Movie (2-4 hours) with the length of each season increasing over time.
Because of this, it doesn't take much time to binge.
Also it's free on Youtube/RoosterTeeth site so it's easy to access.

- It was Monty's idea. He was the maker of famous videos like Haloid and Dead Fantasy. Had Monty not helped then it would have been less successful.
- Monty died. It's said that artists and celebrities become the most famous when they died. His death made a lot of people want to see RWBY, especially volume 3 was about.
- The plot is simple and very easy to get into.
- The few rules and low amount of world building makes it easy to create original characters and headcanons.
- Simple characters that are easy to enjoy
- Decent music
- Decent fighting scenes
