>What is it about it that makes it so perfect?

Long pants.

You mean stripe-ed pants.

Originality. It captured the emotional zeitgeist of the time, but without copying or rehashing anything.

It's entirely self contained. It doesn't rely on pop culture references or current events for jokes, so there's no chance of jokes losing humor with time.

Plus, it doesn't use shock or disgust to try to get cheap reactions either.

this

>It doesn't rely on pop culture references or current events for jokes
Well, it occasionally does, but the jokes are done so subtly that oftentimes you wouldn't even notice.

The Internet will be much more sad when Flash goes down and H*R goes with it.

well sort of, the popculture it references is intentionally out of date
and the few times it mentions modern trends, it's from the POV of a character who already doesn't understand them

>The Internet will be much more sad when Flash goes down and H*R goes with it.
but H*R is porting their cartoons over to YouTube with the easter eggs at the end, though.

>decompile the latest halloween toon teaser
>the secret letters behind each flash sprite say 'can't do this on youtube'

what
youtube.com/watch?v=b81dVTUFyZg

H*R is something that needs Flash. Half the fun is trying to find the hidden click-spots for the Easter Eggs (which YouTube doesn't always get all of). Plus some of the Fourth-wall-breaking jokes (like Homestar pulling menu icons off the bottom of the screen in "virus") only make sense in the Flash-built format of the website.

Can't they, like, convert it into HTML or something?

you can't see the secret letters on youtube

dont forget the bits where one of several options is randomly chosen for you, or the ones like potion-ma-jig where you make the choices

i swear that one 'cardgage or homsar' deleteheads one, I got cardgage every single time for like 10 views

the most they can do is convert them to javascript

Everyone loves the Homestar Runner. He is a terrific athlete.

Also, I think a lot of it is that it is a very natural humour, the kind that exists when friends are just goofing about- silly voices, bad impressions, jokes about old commercials...

It's simple, original and charming

and it's standing on one foot

It's got the heart of a champion! You just keep on scraping along!

It's funny but it knew it ran its course and died gracefully b4 people could get sick of it.

Ohhhhh, Li'l Brudder!

I'm the hoppity frog of value!

It is what it is. It doesn't try to be anything more than what it is. It is completely self-contained. The humor requires no context. It doesn't try to be edgy, or progressive, or anything. Other than a vague nostalgia for the world between 1982-1994, it doesn't rely on pop-culture references. It's innocent enough for children, but isn't afraid of making "adult" jokes. But even when it does, they're so innocent that no one reasonable could be offended by them.

It's basically a cartoon for everybody, while being "for" nobody, and if someone *doesn't* like it, you should regard them with suspicion and distrust.

I feel like I'm a crossroads, and there's, like, a Denny's on one corner...and an IHOP on the other!

The utter lack of mainstreamosity.

I say there, mainstreamosity, do you know the times?

That, and you just can't bring yourself to hate Humidibot!

They did bring that up once... and then Homestar confused it for some kind of ointment.

*garbled by proboscis*

>Steep prices.. and trees!

I wouldn't say it died since H*R's been getting a resurgence of new material as of late.

And they do it without being even slightly mean spirited. I mean, any other animator would look at a concept like Limozeen and make jokes at the expense of hair metal bands without any kind of appreciation for them. Only H*R takes the concept, pokes fun at it, then turns around and gives us genuinely enjoyable songs like Because It's Midnite or Colorin' (Outside The Lines).

They understand that good satire makes funny jokes, excellent satire makes jokes while simultaneously celebrating its subject matter.

>tfw Homestar will never lovingly embrace you

It genuinely feels like you're going out with a group of friends and make a bunch of inside jokes with each other that you'll never forget because they're that unique. It has a type of humor that's special compared to anywhere else.

I love little things like 'sega tapes' and that thing where you act like one leg is shorter than the other so it's able to swing..

he wears long pants Strong Bad, the longest pants

In my life I haven't met very many people who are familiar with Homestar Runner, but I have met exactly 0 people who actively dislike it

legit question, what was it about Homsar and Senor Cardgage that their nonsense was actually funny instead just being so randum crap? It's such thin ice to tread

It helps that they are more or less TERTIARY or below characters so you don't see them too often, therefore you don't get burned out on AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

>TERTIARY
how could you bring this evil in here? I'm not gonna be able to stop saying it for days now

you were 12 when you first watched it

In Homsar's case, consider that most "random" characters just say dumb shit mixed in with their normal speech. Homsar on the other hand is literally incapable of forming a coherent sentence. Unless he's on the phone.

Cardgage is funnier. He actually stays on topic most of the timem, but his dialect is this unending stream of mangled portmanteaus.

>mode 7

>the popculture it references is intentionally out of date

I love their date out of touch references.

IT'S CALLED JAPANIMATION!

Because even if we don't get it they do have an internal logic.

Um...No. He wears NO pants, and looks like he has blue soles glued to the bottom of his feet.

I wish they'd restock all the old DVDs on their store

He's a terrific airthleet

I love this image

Good graphics.

They just happen to be about the same color as his skin, duh.

Once again, I put the blame squarely on tight pants.

How can you disprove TRUTH?

HOLY FUUUUUCK
WHY DIDN'T ANYONE NOTICE UNTIL NOW

>Poopsmith is a Instant Martian from Looney Tunes
>Bubs is Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls (Matt worked with Alex on Gravity Falls, plus the ears and fez give it away)
>Coach Z is Parappa the Rappa
>And Homsar might be Greg from Over the Garden Wall

Can't guess the others. But I'm glad they still doing Halloween specials.

The Cheat kinda looks like the kid from Scribblenauts

stream of conciousness is different from inherently-funny-words and surprise
though i have always loved all 'randumb' so..

WHAT'D I SAY?

there is strong evidence that she is basically a talking cock and balls.

they did. It's just you who didn't know.

>Humor is universal but is adult enough to give it a very subtle edge
>Rarely does references and when it does they're not current events
>Moderately large cast of uniquely identifiable characters
>Voicework and comedic timing is excellent and mostly done by only one dude
>Kept strictly as a passion project despite the audience being ripe for exploitation
>Iconic brand of humor that hasn't been replicated anywhere else
The Brothers Chaps
are simply masters of their craft.

>>Voicework and comedic timing is excellent and mostly done by only one dude
Literally done by only one dude. The only other VA is Missy Palmer as Marzipan and that's it.

Cardgage is actually mildly coherent once you get used to his speech pattern. Homsar might not make a lick of sense but the words are arranged in a way that make it sound like he's forming a complete sentence in his own mind. SBCGFAP is a perfect example of this.

it's about time, i've been waiting for some cartoon costume crossovers

hey don't overlook matt's hilarious intentionally crummy voices
>ohhkayy hot soup is on my eyes

It's usually Mike who does the crummy voices

Are the Chapman bros out of job? They're more involved in HR now more than ever

Senor Cardgage's whole bit is that he's a creep, and his bizarre speech patterns help to sell it.

I think their Disney gigs have run their course for the moment, and it's possibly that Two More Eggs revitalized their desire to do Homestar stuff, as there's a fair amount of overlap in the humour.

agh, right. i can never tell the names mike and matt apart. i used to know two sets of twins named mike and matt

>Come on down for a free canceltation with one of our handsome talking experts!
>One of them said they'd buy me lunch, but I don't see nobody taking me to Chick-Fil-A.

The full on return is eminent. They're about to set up a Patreon.

If they do set up a Patreon, I just hope the content will keep being quality

No probalo!

I voted for ew gross

I'm surprised you haven't killed yourself. Hang in there old man.

Man, Homestar Runner is the only thing on the internet I would ever help financially support via Patreon. They've given me enough laughs over the years that they have earned my support, especially since they would expressly make everything free either way.

>I'M SUPPOSED TO RELEASE A VIDEO COMPUTER GAME ON TV WITHOUT THIS GRAPHIC!
>...what?
>YOU HEARD ME!!
I don't think I laughed at anything harder in my teenage years.

Probably to help them fund a way to keep the website alive when Flash goes down.
