What are Sup Forums's thoughts on this thing?

I want to be excited because Runaways was the comic that got me into comics in the first place. But I'm also terrified because the comic hasn't been good since Vaughn left almost ten years ago and in general young adult stuff nowadays can go wrong in so many way. I enjoyed the netflixverse for the most part but AoS and Inhumans were either boring or terrible.

Hope for the best expect the worst

>hulu
>not netflix

man, the streaming world is weird

How far can they go in one season?

I think they're just expanding their reach.

Which is stupid because aside from this I can't think of a single reason to get Hulu.

I'm presuming they're going to the end of Volume 1. Which is another worry since it's by far the best that Runaways ever got.

Didn't Disney and Netflix end their contract.

I'm afraid the changes are going to vastly alter the fanbase. As small as it is.

Nico, Karolina and Alex look good, the rest range from Eh to fuck this show. Supposedly Alex is more whiney and less scheming. They all go to the same school for some reason. Molly has been completely gutted, probably for mutant reasons. Gert's thin and Hispanic, Chase is a brunette. Old Lace has feathers because we're cool science nerds here.

I know things change from version to version but this is their first dip into another medium and I don't want people to start bitching that people don't call Molly Latina, or whatever other bullshit they're doing to her backstory. I don't want the TV show to replace the comic like has happened in the past. Although a lot of people claim to like it all the reasons they claim to like it don't sound good to me. It's like Riverdale? People are already sexualizing Chase's Dad, an abuser? No thanks.

I hope they don't ruin Gert's Parents. They were my faves.

At this point I've worked myself into dreading it so much any ounce of being good will probably change my mind so there's that.

>N.O. F.U.C.K.I.N.G H.A.T.
how hard is it, it's at most like 100 dollars of the costuming budget but no you got to look cool to the fucking tweens or what ever.

I didn't like the comic, I doubt i'm going to enjoy this.

>I didn't like the comic
>I've already prejudged the show
>and I felt the need to post here and tell you that
>just like I'll show up in EVERY FUCKING WATCH THREAD AND DO THE SAME!
Never change Sup Forums

Well OP did ask Sup Forums for their opinion.

No, Disney's streaming service doesn't launch until 2019. They're not just going to pull everything out and sit on it for a year while other people make money from streaming.

Disney owns part of Hulu.

I remember auditioning for this years ago. I'm happy to see it finally being made.

First run I'd assume, but cutting out detours like Topher and cloak and dagger.

When I was at nycc they were all up at the Marvel booth. Even though I loved the comic, I felt no need to go up and say hi

Which role?

It will probably be at least decent. It seems like they give a shit about being reasonably faithful to the source material.

>It seems like they give a shit about being reasonably faithful to the source material.

How do you figure?

If Molly's not a mutant, I'm not watching it. Nico's manvoice already freaked me out.

What we've seen from the trailer is nearly a direct copy of the first few issues. Most changes seem to be related to the fact that the series came out over a decade ago or to streamline some shit that's inevitable when something is adapted for a movie or series.

They can't use mutants, sorry.

Pros:
The first arc of the comic was the best arc, and that's probably all this show will cover.
It looks like they're being faithful to the source material, including all the super weird stuff like aliens and dinosaurs.

Cons:
Hulu.
I doubt all that weird stuff will translate well to live action. Old Lace will probably look like shit.

Molly's older, Molly's at the Sacrifice. Molly has no parents. Molly lives with Gert? Alex is emo. Bigger focus on the parents. Karolina's powers hit off at a party? They're all in school together. Sacrifice looks like a porn. Molly is jumped by Old Lace instead of Chase for no reason. What is that white bed shit?

I mean a lot of these things are minor but Molly is almost completely different. And the lack of her parents takes a big chunk out of the story. They're one half of the traitors in the Pride. They could have made her an inhuman and kept everything else the same. It wouldn't have been the same but it would be understandable because of the rights issue shit.

Those eyebrows are a human rights violation.

Those fucking EYEBROWS!

>Gert's hispanic
Eh?
Otherwise,
>Gert's thin and Hispanic, Chase is a brunette. Old Lace has feathers because we're cool science nerds here.
These are non-complaints

>>Gert's hispanic

You can't look at her and tell she's Hispanic that looks nothing like their actors playing her parents?

No they're definitely complaints. The might be nitpicking but they're complaints I made with my fingers on the keyboard.

You really can't tell with the purple hair. Molly's more of the problem.

I thought I saw Molly's hat at some point in the trailer. The first (only) season will probably be Vol. 1-3.

>What are Sup Forums's thoughts on this thing?

I feel like it should have been a thing 10 years ago back when people cared

You mean she has bangs that partially cover up her eyesbrows so this doesn't happen.

>They can't use mutants, sorry.

I think it's less that and more they don't want to work with a 12 year old because little kids are terrible actors and have a fuck ton of work interfering laws

Someone doesn't have to be 12 to look 12. Look at Spider-Man Homecoming.

Oh come on, the CGI wasn't this bad.

They changed her because they wanted them to be in school together. They've made a high school drama out of it.

Wait wait wait, how old did they make Molly?

Does this mean I can finally get my Molly/Chase fic off the ground.

Terrible taste

Chase looks wrong. He's Jason Mewes, not Dave Franco.

OP asked for thoughts you dumbfuck. Stop sperging because he didn't like Runaways

Here's a complete rundown of the first episode if you want spoilers:
comicbook.com/2017/10/06/nycc-runaways-panel-recap
Nico has a (dead) sister. Molly is 13 and Gert's adopted sister. The Yorkes are some kind of genetic scientists instead of time travelers. Chase has a gift for engineering instead of just sports. The parent's charity is the Church of Gibborim, which is known to the public as a kind of new-agey, Scientology cult.

I'll watch just because Virginia Gardner is ridiculously beautiful.

What the hell?

>They changed her because they wanted them to be in school together.
BKV's original pitch to Marvel had Molly aged 13 and Gert acting like "an overprotective older sister" to her, so the changes may have been his suggestion, he's listed as a consultant.

Jo Chen's Molly always looked more like a teenager on her covers then she did in the comic.

Well I already hate it.

I'm not speculating.

it honestly doesn't even seem that bad. The problem for me is I don't want to pay for another streaming service.

It's gonna be shit. They ruined everything.

I was excited. They fucked Molly up. Dropped.

Does seem that bad? Without the time travel they take out a large portion of the canon arcs.

If it wasn't Runaways i might enjoy the type of show on it's own but as an adaptation they seem to be trying hard to sink it.

Rip, no Klara in the show ever (unless he is from modern day, but that kinda ruins her).

Don't know a single thing about Runaways beyond this trailer, so can anyone fill me in on the changes that are being made from the comic to the show?

Purple haired girl (Gert) is the daughter of time travelers, but in this they are geneticists. They didn't all go to the same high school, Molly was the daughter of Mutants and not adopted by Gert's parents, and like 5 years younger. The evil group was a cult of just them and not a recognizable church.

From earlier in the thread with some added explanation if needed.
>Molly's older
>Molly's at the Sacrifice.
>Molly has no parents and lives with Gert.
Molly and her parents are mutants in the comic so they probably changed that for the show.

Her parents were part of a plot to betray the other parents. Molly's parents didn't want to have a kid so that's part of why she's the youngest.

>Karolina's powers hit off at a party?
>They're all in school together.
In the comic they all lived in different parts of CA and only came together a few times a year. They story is quick and never mentions school or a social life outside of the core group.

>Chase is now a nerd.
Chase was a typical meathead in the comic. He's fucking dumb and that's part of his charm. His dad was abusive to him because he wasn't smart. That molded his character.

>Gert's parents are no longer time travellers
In the comic they were antique dealers that sold shit they got while time travelling. This ability to time travel plays into several plots and one new character in the future. I'm assuming they not make the dinosaur themselves instead of purchasing her. They also have different beliefs about superheros and shit because of the alternate timelines they have been to. It's why they agreed to the deal.

There's a lot of other nitpicking shit but this is what most would divert the plot and character interactions.

Honestly the only thing I hope they don't fuck with is Alex being the traitor. Cause black people aren't allowed to be evil anymore.

Bet you they do. It'll be Chase.

>Gert's hispanic
>Eh?
She speaks spanish in the show.
