It was a Nicktoon and Sokka wasn't a grouchy old actor who probably only took the role of they would kill him off. Zuko did plenty of 'bad' stuff, including the betrayal mid-way through the series, before setting into the redemption arc proper. I mean it's not an exact match but there are a lot of similarities. Hell, even the hesitance to really hurt Katara and Ben never really attacking Rey with intent to kill.
Really though, this is the truest answer. It's just not going to happen. It would render Han's death meaningless and leave Leia dying with everything she clung to in ruins. Ben returning to the light is her last and greatest need and hope.
I'm just hoping they do right by Luke. His legacy is nowhere near as bright as I once hoped it would be. They have somehow managed to make him suffer more than he did in the old EU.
