There hasn't been fighting really, just disagreements on what episodes and ideas they want to pursue.
Roiland running the show 100% would destroy it. He's a depressed crazy person and without someone who knows more about the industry and writing to reel him in he'd go fucking crazy and probably produce an entire half an hour episode of Rick just on the toilet silently taking a shit. He's said a lot of times if Harmon left he'd probably ruin everything. I don't like Harmon's stuff much especially now that he's on board with the gamegrumps of all people but him leaving would make the show worse.

I like both side of the show.
I like the adventure and the crazy shit.
I like the family; the fact that despite being called Rick and Morty, the show also gives Beth, Summer and Jerry prominent roles. I like those crazy characters.
I think it's a nice balance. And without it, the whole continuity thing would be a lot less worthwhile. The whole "Rick and Morty left their own dimension to live in another one" revelation Morty made to Summer would have no impact if we didn't care about the family.
