RWBY Season 5

Exactly how big has RWBY gotten? It looked shitty when it premiered and the only person I know that got big into it was an awful person, so I never touched it.
But looking at my local theater, the season 5 premiere is getting a theatrical release.

It's gonna have a crossover fighting game with Blazblue. I say moderately big.

Also: Haha, fuck Guilty Gear.

Damn, it exploded as a franchise. I wonder if it's the most profitable thing Roosterteeth makes.

There's also a mobage
twitter.com/puzzleofempires/status/917985315029217280

It's bigger than you might think, but not as big as its fans or RT make it out to be. It's popular as fuck in Japan, though; it along with Kemono Friends are living proof that you don't need good animation or a decent story to be ball bustingly popular in Japan, you just have to have nice character designs.

Though I'm almost positive that it makes RT more than enough money. Money that they could use to hire people who are GOOD at 3D modeling and animation and still be rich as fuck.

>Though I'm almost positive that it makes RT more than enough money. Money that they could use to hire people who are GOOD at 3D modeling and animation and still be rich as fuck.

To be fair, the models and animation are pretty okay right now. For RWBY to be a good show, they really need a good writer. The dialogue/humor/story is so fucking bad, I can't believe that this are the same people who make camp camp or RvB which has decent writing. Also a decent fight choreographer would also be good. Also on that note, hire someone to replace Ruby's VA, that shit is cringy as fuck, like someone trying to ape the high as fuck pitch of anime loli voices.

its gotten big enough to be the primary income for RoosterTeeth, and the Japs love it for some reason.

>hire someone to replace Ruby's VA
Never gonna happen, they should just have her go back to her V1 voice, but they honest to fuck think that her current voice is good.

>underage
>"kawaii"
>flat characterization

>I can't believe that this are the same people who make camp camp or RvB which has decent writing
I think the problem is an inconsistent tone. RWBY's entered the "mature" stage, sure, but the writing still feels like something from a Pokemon dub. In their other shows, they constantly make adult jokes and humor, which seems to be where they're best at, but with RWBY, it seems like they don't know whether they can tell adult jokes or not, so they're limited to shit like "dude, nice bunny rabbit sweater, LOL", or straight-up slapstick like the SSSN fight.

seeing you guys hate on this is the craziest thing i have ever seen you clam you hate everything about it but you follow everything and say everybody who likes it has shit taste shit is crazy

They want to keep the younger viewers when they would be more in their element if they were allowed to go more mature, so they constantly keep this awkward balance between the two while not going too dark or too mature.

Like Tyrian calling Ruby a bitch was a big deal.

But I dont hate it.

well if you dont you have a funny way of saying you do buy shitting all over it

So once they've finished "Monty's vision" (at least, as close as they could come to it), is RWBY just gonna end? Are they gonna milk the same characters for infinite seasons forever? Are they gonna pull a Boruto, and have Ruby's kid be the new MC with his own team? What's RT's game plan?

There are plenty of kids show with good writing or dialogue, you don't need to swear to make things entertaining.

I'd like to say they'd end it, but Red vs. Blue is still going on, so I dunno.

That is true, but RT clearly works better when they dont have to worry about not scaring the kiddies, obviously there has to be a limit and it's not a 100% fix to RWBY, but it would probably make it some degree easier on things

>Ruby's voice.
It was worse in the first trailer. Still pretty bad though.

Roman has some decent one-liners, and they did try their hand at a suicide joke back in vol1. It's not like they aren't trying.

>is RWBY just gonna end?
Team STRQ story, young Roman and Neo misadventures across Remnant, who knows what else

>misadventures
>adventures*
should probably sleep

I'm only halfway through volume 1 at the moment but this seems like the kind of show my nine year old sister would like, but considering how vulgar Red vs. Blue, the only other Rooster Teeth thing I've seen before is I'm a bit worried. Does the content get more racy later on? Google is giving me age ranges anywhere from 10 to 16 being the minimum age you should watch RWBY.

Violence isn't much of an issue, it's nudity/overly crude sexual humor or lots of profanity that are main red flags. She's allowed to watch The Simpsons if that helps to draw any comparisons.

(Also the reason I'm using a throwaway account on this is because my main is shadowbanned for reasons unknown.)

A character got called a bitch last volume and that was a big deal

>Violence isn't much of an issue, it's nudity/overly crude sexual humor or lots of profanity that are main red flags. She's allowed to watch The Simpsons if that helps to draw any comparisons.

The Simpsons had a ton of swearing, sex and nudity jokes, if she can watch that, she should be able to watch almost anything that isn't straight porn or gore flicks.

And that was probably the funniest line in Volume 1. Besides that, and Ren describing Nora's dream, I can't remember a single joke from Vol 1 that wasn't either slapstick, or an RT reference.

misadventures works, too

I hear Season 5 is going to be focusing on Blake and her investigation of the White Fang.

On one hand, I'm pretty interested in seeing the internal politics of what is implied to be a severely fractured organization, but on the other, it'd mean Shitty Kitty is going to have a majority of the focus this season. I'm not even sure I'd want to watch the .m3u8 leaks once it starts airing if that's the case; Every scene with her during Volume 4 was a chore to sit through, and the fact that she's the catgirl equivalent of the privileged white kid protesting without a full understanding of the problem, and is basically the fucking PRINCESS of the Faunus capital of the world.

Also she's a cowardly little shit who once again thought running away from her problems would fix them and got mad enough to slap Sun when he pointed out that NO it doesn't fix them, or makes them go away if you wait long enough, it MAKES IT SO MUCH FUCKING WORSE, and pisses people off.

Not to mention that Sun turns into a literal buttmonkey around her. RT not knowing about to write humor without slapstick or one character making a complete fool of himself. And with Blake being so emo, you pretty much need some humor to lighten the mood.

All I want in V5 is more Yang. She seems to be the most popular of the 4 girls, but has the least screentime.

If RT's learned anything, they could use this volume to actually SHOW the Faunus oppression that's supposedly happening, rather than just tell us about it through Blake. Assuming that they even know it was a problem in the first place.

Speaking of Buttmonkeys, it fucking baffles me that there are people who hate Jaune for EXISTING. Like complaining about him getting more screentime this volume than the main character, when it's been established that he is literally the deuteragonist among the various characters; in other words, if we aren't focusing on Ruby and her team, we're focusing on Jaune and his team. Simple as that.

Even then, while Jaune was certainly in focus in this volume, Ruby STILL had more screentime than he did.

These are the same fuckers who hold a grudge against him for "creeping" on Weiss back in Volume 1 and 2.

Like yeah, it's a bit creepy, but it's more sad than creepy, and furthermore, the guy is operating off of advice from a clearly out-of-touch parental figure, and Jaune himself has admitted that he's a complete failure at basic social interaction.

Yeah, he might not have apologized for it, but for fuck's sake, he's a loser, not a goddamn sexual predator.

Nevermind the implications that Weiss assumed that Jaune, the same guy who she had to explain who the hell Pyrrha Nikos was, and didn't recognize until she pointed out she was on the boxart for Pumpkin Pete cereal, wanted her for the same reasons the vultures back at Atlas did, when he probably didn't know, or couldn't care less about who she was, or wanted a guy who liked her for her rather than her money or prestige, and continues to ignore such a guy, due to her aforementioned preconceptions, and goes after fucking NEPTUNE of all people, who later proves himself to be an utter shitheel after the dance despite Jaune telling him not to break Weiss' heart.

Seriously, get over yourself and your irrational Jaune hate, Dashingicecream. Your ship ain't sailing and no amount of nice art will make Blake any less of a shit character.

To be fair he really should have gotten the clue with Weiss after the first few 'No's, definitely not a sexual predator but yeah no normal person keeps going after being told no that much. Honestly it's more surprising that nobody stopped him by then.
Really though this is very old drama that has been discussed to death

Yeah, that particular gag dragged on longer than it needed to; I would say it was more the fault of the writers than it entirely being Jaune's failings as a character or person, but he is very definitely a flawed individual, but NOT a bad person. At the very least he did stop pursuing her entirely, and even got her that dance with Neptune she wanted, and set Neptune's dumb ass straight... of course, Neptune fucked it all up in Volume 3 like the dumbass he is. Nigger just couldn't keep it in his pants and Weiss suffered the most from his playboy bullshit.

And then it all came TUMBLING DOWN TUMBLING DOWN TUMBLING DOWN for Vomit Boy during Volume 3's finale, and he's STILL recovering. I wouldn't be surprised if he's got serious intimacy issues after Pyrrha kissed him, then shoved him in a rocket locker and went off to her death.

>throwaway account
>shadowban
reddit is that way user ----->

>more surprising that nobody stopped him by then.
Wasn't Yang actively encouraging him?

RWBY has glaring flaws that fans are allowed to make fun of

>Thinking Ruby's voice is not CUTE.

I mean, I'll admit it sounds like a cat in heat, but that's half the appeal desu.

So we're going to be pulling m3u8s out of the webpage as soon as it goes live and watching the episodes together this volume right?

Yeah, basically. Business as usual.

they have to travel to other kindoms for relics then confront salem then search maidens and that takes ages. those writers really did not think through of this plot

Weiss is the best character in the show

Why did you post a picture of a girl with breasts when you were talking about Weiss?

They said they have the overall story planned out, and they know how RWBY will end. The story will likely last for years, so we can expect the girls to become adults eventually.

When it ends they can begin a new story involving a new team that takes place in the future. Or, maybe they will do prequel with STRQ.

I just hope RWBY doesn't end after a time skip where all characters are now married and have children, like in Bleach and Naruto, and the kids are pretty much clones of their parents.

Personally, I think they'll end when it comes to it and just move onto a new project. We can already see the seeds of that with Gen:Lock and I'm sure in due time they'll get a hankering for another new genre

Flat is fine.

I doubt Salem is the final antagonist. It's probably gonna be the evil twin god.

>RWBY will be animated by Arcsys' Team Red or CyberConnect2

>will be
never*

She'll grow into it. Simply a late bloomer.

No. Flat is a status symbol, something to treasure.

I wish Warner Japan will license a STRQ Prequel Anime [or a Japan-produced RWBY sidestory] so Sup Forums will shit itself and sticky the announcement.

The greatest shitstorm in the making.

Gray has gone on to say that after RWBY they'd like to create more stories in Remnant.
But i'll be fucked if I can find where he said it.

>It's a five-episode OVA.
>With real production values!

>Production Values

Yass

>OVA

Fuck

With the amount of money that goes into anime that the best we can hope for.
Cheap and niche since it will test the waters for a full anime.

It easily is. It's the only thing they've made that has reached beyond the scope of RT fans, which is weird because early on the consensus was that it was only popular at all because of RT fans.

Why does Weiss constantly violate Ruby, can't she see that the girl needs some sleep?

it helps that its girl-centric anime, for sure

with the fan-art/"waifu" talk its easier to grab outsider's attention

>Finally watch RvB 15
>Such meh quality

Also what's with this random push the last few years to have Tucker be a leader?

They wanted to ruin Blue team even more. RvB went downhill after season 5 and isn't worth watching after season 8

...

...

...

Stop it, talk normally motherfuckers and maybe after the show ends you fucks can still come here without being thrown in the fucking trash, also get the fuck out of /blaz/ just like the Ragnafags, Noelfags, Celicafags,Maifags and Zarc user, the place is a corpse.

...

No but seriously, this season was really fucking random in terms of quality.

>Introduce two new "surrogates" like with Wash in Reconstruction
>Proceed to just sorta make them minor characters once the Reds and Blues have been found
>Throw about a million red herrings/twists into what the actual story is
>Washington and Carolina romance out of fucking left field
>Locust appearing and than just leaving with no fanfare
>Doc and Sarge go way out of character with their betrayals, only to sort of run back with their tails between their legs
>Story just sorta ends thanks to Vic

I mainly hated the constant pop culture references and meta jokes forced into every single episode by the writer's annoying self insert. It was funny at first but quickly became Deadpool-level tired

Somebody sell me on RWBY. I like the guys at Roosterteeth, but this just seems so terribly meh.

The chick in your image gets fucked in the 5th episode.

I just hope they fix Nora's redesign this time around.

If you're gonna give a character a boob window shirt, shows some damn cleavage, or don't have it at all. Kept getting Dot Matrix monoboob flashbacks.

When can we start expecting real spoilers of episode 1?

Konata pls

tonight because it airs in theatres

Did anyone start making bingo cards yet?
if checked you just replied to miles who has already found a new format that has to be figured out

They immediately ditched "Monty's Vision" the very fucking second he died, which was a shame causethat happened to coincide with when they escaped that awkward season1+2 period with the 4 minute episodes and completely amateur production. I.E. just when it finally started to get decent.

That's one reason that that Shane guy had such a psyzoid embolism. And while most people definitely agree that Shane overexaggerated the "extent of the damage", it's also clear that they jumped ship from Monty's "carefully preplanned details down to the minutiae for enough for 20 seasons" or whatever the urban legends say pretty might right away. Ever since they just keep adding plot points and characters and mcguffins left and right.

ALL that aside, RWBY's fucking problem is that, at its heart its a battle shounen fantasy adventure ala FullMetal Alchemist, Fairy Tale, One Piece, HunterxHunter, Wakfu, Avatar, ______Insert (Ameri)animu to hate on here. It needs 26 to 50 something full length episodes a season to sustain the scope, breadth, and scale of its story, incorporating battle, 5 continents, 3 storylines, an entire history, etc. But instead it gets essentially 5 seconds of jack shit. So the pacing and plotting are eternally always fucked.

Season 5 is going to be as split as season 4 was. In fact, since 3 of the 4 RWBY members are already in Mistral, and the implication is that Adam is already in Mistral carrying out his plots, I would lay odds that Blake joins them there within a few episodes, if even that long.

>the fact that she's the catgirl equivalent of the privileged white kid protesting without a full understanding of the problem

I don't love Blake either, and the cowardice thing is way worse, but I have no clue where this stupid privileged white girl idea comes from. That was only true when she was, like 12 and ran off to join the fang in the first place after her Dad had advocated. Since then she served with the Fang out in the world for half a decade or more, saw all the prejudice and suffering firsthand, watched her own organization fall into violent, terrorist, fundamentalism along with Adam, and whatnot. She has many problems, but being ignorant hasn't been one for a long time.

>the internal politics of what is implied to be a severely fractured organization

The White Fang isn't really all the complicated. It used to be "Martin Luthor King Jr.", then changed more to "Malcolm X/The Black Panthers" under Sienna Khan. And now Adam has formed his own clique that is somewhere between a rogue terrorist celland a really large street gang doing their own thing. And honestly, he/they're really just pawns of Cinder, since I get the feeling they didn't do anything of note till they started carrying out her plans.

Post YFW this becomes the new Jaune theme song.

youtube.com/watch?v=Ym5-7wr0KVI

Depends on your pain threshold for cringy writing.

I'd say watch a few of the fight scenes eg:
youtu.be/J2up1Ldu0vc

Listen to some music eg:
youtu.be/KRCHvZJnxYU

And then understand that the writing and 3d animation will get better as the show progresses, but the fight scenes will get worse (because the creator/fight choreographer died). The fights are still pretty good, they just don't quite hit the highs of before.

If that sounds okay, give it a shot.

Let's not put Monty on a pedestal. He was amazing at fight choreography, he created a unique and interesting world and his character designs were pretty good, but he was shit at writing a coherent story. I would have preferred if he stayed alive because the fights in RWBY were my main draw, but the writing in the show has been better than its ever been since he died not that that's saying much.

So I heard you guys enjoy a good joke.

Faunus Rights?

Monty died for the sake of waifu's animated and real so the dream could live. It's got enough Jesus allegory I'd swear Zack Snyder was behind it.

Offtopic: So Red vs Blue was the first sucessful animated series RT made, right? and uses models from the Halo franchise, right? Why weren't they sued by Bungie studios? Did RT ask for permissions or what?

Ontopic: Is pic related the only good character in this mess of a show?

>Yang's body not rotating but spinning in place
And honestly over blow his choreography.

He had no idea how to make some one actively defend beyond flailing their arms so you get shot like Roman and Sun waggling their weapons at each other and some how stopping shotgun blasts.

The fights are fun. I wouldn't watch it for anything else.

The animation gets better each season, but it's still pretty mediocre. S5 looks decent from the previews.

They have a partnership. It's why Grifball is an official game mode in the Halo games.

He was knocking the gunchucks aside so they shot past him.

Bungie enjoyed RvB so they allowed them to continue and even make their own merch, even making machinima easier in Halo 2 by adding the ability to lower your gun. And now RT spends its time copyright striking RWBY YT videos

>My name's Velvet
>I don't care
what did Qrow mean with this?

I agree. When you consider how much of a dweeb she is in canon, it fits

Monty's choreography never really moved past the stickman battles phase. Things tended to fall apart when he had to figure out how to suddenly make either one side win or one side stop winning in impressive fashion where it didn't make any sense for a comeback to occur.

The fact that he didn't story board anything is pretty obvious because of how goddawful his fight tended to end.

Was expecting Rules of Nature.

>Shane really thought saying "THEY STARTED TO STORYBOARD!!!!11!!" would be a valid criticism against RT in his letter

>No "Here be Grimm"
youtube.com/watch?v=4Fbry0X7OmM

In retrospect Yang's gauntlets didn't really need to be shotguns too on top of being gauntlets. Yang is already the strong one, you didn't need to add anything on top of her already ridiculous super strength, just say her firsts are igniting with friction or some shit.

That was Vale user, no need for "here there be Grimm"

>Post YFW this becomes the new Jaune theme song.
>This shit tryhard shit
youtube.com/watch?v=X9uk9IcoQ0w

Gives her range potential and mobility (with the whole "rocket jumping" thing she can do).

Again just say she punches the air so hard it ignites the air into a flame that can either strike someone or propel herself, that'd hardly be unbelievable in a series like this

>Let's not put Monty on a pedestal

Oh, I'm not, and I somewhat agree with your assessment. I just meant to say that Monty's Vision stopped mattering the second he died is all. Although I DO disagree with the huge majority who constantly spout

>the writing in the show has been better than its ever been since he died.

This was a cooincidence since he died right when the series (a) actually started its plot, (b) when it, as I said before, escaped its super low budget, amateur hour where no one had any idea what they were doing and the background characters were still walking stick figures. etc.

It's true that he insisted on adding stupid shit like the dance sequence, but the dance itself (as a Beacon event) was still going to happen so Cinder could haxx0r the planet. People exaggerate how "bad" of a writer he was, and the addition of his amazeballs choreography and animation would have been worth a stupud event here and there. Plus, a few of the things that have been mentioned as having been changed (not only those mentioned in Shane's rant) make me think that some good stuff has been sacrified as well.
