There were some fun episodes, but it was a mess.
Doesn't mean the shows completely ruined, but it's gonna take a lot from the writers during season 4 to get their shit together and put it back on track.

Which he could have done at any time without the complicated plot of going to prison. since he has a portal gun that can let him go anywhere.

The only other series I can think of where the creators are beginning to believe their audience is dumb was Chappelle's Show. This will be a letter to Rick & Morty fans that if you keep acting up in public, this show will end prematurely. It will also show that Rick can't play God and his life is affecting everyone around him. He needs an intervention and not from his family.
