PUNISHER STORYTIME
All this year I'll be posting Punisher comics. Most of them will be from the pre-Ennis era. Some will be from the Ennis era. Expect at least 1 storytime per week.
In spite of how popular The Punisher used to be and how often he's cameoed in other series, he's always kind of been relegated to his own little corner of the "Marvel Universe". And the fans seem to prefer it that way. I remember them always getting letters about how people didn't want to see him take on mutants or super villains and people complained endlessly when he went up against Doctor Doom in Latveria in the late 1980s. So it's no surprise that he's been left out of pretty much every "event" in the publisher's history.
But there was one time (and one time only) that Marvel tried to craft a "big event story" for The Punisher himself. Back in the early 90s DeFalco's House of Ideas came up with a massive months-long "event" that ran through all 3 Punisher ongoings at the time. It's probably the only time one of the character's stories tried to be a "massive sprawling epic". Even to this day there's really no other Punisher's story arc quite on its scale.
It was written by a couple of legendary Punisher scribes, Chuck Dixon and Steven Grant, and G.I. Joe writer, Larry Hama.
It is also LONG AS FUCK. To this day it remains the second longest Punisher arc in terms of number of issues (Welcome Back, Frank is first) and THE longest in terms of page count (due to multiple double-sized issues), so this is going to take a LONG fucking time, which means YOU NEED TO KEEP THIS SHIT BUMPED, AND THEN WHEN WE MOVE TO THE NEW THREAD YOU NEED TO KEEP THIS ONE BUMPED SO IT DOESN'T 404 BEFORE THE STORYTIME IS FINISHED.
I'll be starting out with the "preview" that Marvel put out to promote this, which you see right there in the OP. It's written and drawn in the style of one of The Punisher's "war journal entries" and it serves as a nice setup to the story itself.
