Considering Capeshit is mainly the Chinese audience and market how insanely well would a New Super-Man movie do? I just finished reading the first trade and think the first arc alone would make a pretty good two and a half hour movie.
Wouldn't China flip their shit over the freedom fighters?
Cameron Carter
Not to mention it would be DC and considering it is not Marvel Disney would buy off critics and reviewers from every corner to make sure the movie doesn't make bank.
Brandon Nguyen
And Alpaca, and Dr. Omen, and I-Ching, and about 3/5ths of the Great Ten, and W-W, and some general objections to the plots of several arcs.
Ethan Jones
>Chinese government would never allow it to fly >muricans would cry racism on social media Kenan would be a pretty cool protagonist for a movie, damn shame
Jayden Lee
I really hope DC goes "fuck it" and puts out a good DTV adaptation. Cut off potential cries of racism by having an entire Chinese cast. If they really wanted to go the extra mile to shut up the terminally offended have a Chinese dub too.
Landon Campbell
People would just nitpick, they are just addicted to outrage nowadays
Jack Perez
I this this artist on the book.
Nathaniel Clark
Just about to sit down and read the last 3 floppies. Love this book. Anybody got any guesses about the post-19 title change? JLI? JLC? Shanghai-percrisis?
Wyatt Nguyen
Infinite Opportunity/Crisis/Crisistunity
Levi Collins
New Bat-Man
Alexander Rodriguez
>Outragefags think it's part of a SJW agenda
Aiden Myers
I would read a Baix solo book, Baix a best. I wonder if we'll ever get a New Green-Lantern?
Xavier Foster
They mentioned a Lantern academy, I wonder if he is going to use a bootleg ring since green lantern rings can't be replicated
Otherwise Chinese phantom lantern
Jordan Cook
If they want avoid creating another human Corps member, and want to just import the Chinese Tangent GL from Earth-9, I'm fine with that.
Evan Perry
>>HIVEMIND
Eli Scott
>Considering Capeshit is mainly the Chinese audience What does this even mean? The highest grossing western films in China are science-fiction.
Robert Peterson
Baixi would be a great protagonist, he's got so much personal stuff to work with. Sister isa supervillain, under constant threat of being replaced, is literally the fat kid in a world of Chads, coworker is a dick to him, and is dating a chick who is way out of his league - and also another coworker of his, and immortal, and a giant snake who plays a prominent role in his cultural mythos.
Chase Peterson
I read all of this in one sitting a couple nights ago from Sup Forums's rec and I wasn't disappointed which basically lead to a dr manhattan tier revelation on miracles apparently being real, thanks guys!
Luis Lopez
That is not what hivemind is, newfag
Daniel Lopez
>and is dating a chick who is way out of his league She literally build up speed for 12 hours just to be with her first crush and is secretly a giant snake, he will be fine
Eli Myers
>New Super-Man >RHATO >Green Lanterns >Super Sons I am loving Rebirth so far, they are doing wonders with the diversity cast
Brayden Cooper
Even though they're pretty good as a unit are the china bros gonna get trashed by the american league? More important than that will robin bot finally get the respect he deserves?
Jace Morgan
I'm only reading Aqua Man, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, Death Stroke and New Super-Man but I really recommend Aqua Man, probably my favourite Rebirth series so far. How are RHATO and Green Lanterns?
Jaxson Sullivan
Yang should write it too.
Cooper Flores
>thinking the mainland would ever accept this ABC comic. The chinese fucking hate it when foreigners write about china. They want chinese faces and CGI, not satire on china.
Bentley Watson
Wait how do you do his origin (for a DTV or whatever) without killing Suoerbro?
Easton Clark
it's written by a chinese guy
Kevin Bell
Someone should ask Yang on Twitter if he has considered doing a New Super-Man live action or animated movie.
Grayson Watson
They're literally the chinese knockoff JLA, I doubt china would really like that truth about who and what they are thrown in their face.
Chase Stewart
Should do a Ryan Choi Atom movie instead.
Nolan Anderson
People from china consider chinese-americans as americans.
Charles Cooper
>How are RHATO and Green Lanterns? RHATO is about Red Hood teaming up with Artemis and Bizarro and creating a group of "outlaws" who will work as double agents to get what they want, Jason and Artemis have great chemistry and Bizarro is great as always, they are like a big family and its fun to see them hang together, I am pretty sure they are going to recruit more members and create their own "Dark Justice League" sooner or later.
Green Lanterns has been great because of how they handled Jess and Baz, they stopped focusing on Baz being a muslin and more on his family oriented car loving side which ended up with him becoming a top tier husbando, Jess is agoraphobic and watching her overthink social situations is adorable, you really see a lot of growth from both characters as you go which is pretty great, I really hope they don't become a couple because I am loving their interactions as partners.
Thomas Price
I would be down for an animated feature
Nolan Sanders
2 people posted the same thought at the same time. I've been on Sup Forums since 2005 but sure, keep it up, chief.
Thomas Lewis
So favourite characters? I like Folding Paper Man and Ghost Girl a lot.
Anthony Martin
>posted the same thought at the same time So you are a casual, got it
Some people accuse Gene Luen Yang of cultural appropriation because he wasn't born in China, he's just Chinese and writes about immigrants.
Isaac Martin
>Claims to not be a newfag >Using the "I've been here since 200X" line that every newfag does
Blake Bailey
Do they have the same issue with Coates writing Black Panther?
Gabriel Taylor
They'd claim its different because a.)Wakanda is fictional (which has some merit) and b.)because BP is a black aspirational narrative (which will show that they're not actually reading Coates' BP).
Noah Rivera
You've seen through my smokescreen of lies, user. Well done. I'm 12 and what is this
Carter Allen
Or it's China's superior improvement. China loves that shit about whitey learning superior Chinese honor, see: The Great Wall with Matt Damon
Jeremiah Phillips
I would love a Kenan movie, but as other said already, the freedom Fighters would be banned
Joshua Moore
I know she is not Chinese, but I would love to have Jessica Cruz Green Lantern on that book.
Luke Jones
Maybe they can change out the name but keep the democratic rhetoric since in the end they lose anyway?
Anthony Richardson
>Movie gets popular and generally accepted in China >SJW shits on the racist director for making the chinese 'copy everything from the west'. What are the odds?
Dominic Phillips
It's a DC movie with a male lead, they'd hate it no matter what.
Jeremiah Reed
>I just finished reading the first trade and think the first arc alone would make a pretty good two and a half hour movie. You are what's wrong with comic books. As much as I like people actually reading comics, the mind-set that every comic should be a movie is the cancer that's fueling and diluting the comic book industry. I implore you to reconsider.
Levi Rogers
>a New Super-Man movie Honestly, the best we could expect about Kenan and gang it's an animated movie. Which is totally fine, though, but I don't think they are interesting enough (by now) for that.
Jackson Martin
I like the Great Ten, but I think I'd much rather read solo series for its members than an actual Great Ten book.
>no book about August General in Iron being China's grumpiest supersoldier bulldozing his way through conflict zones and geopolitics >no cyberpunk-esque, urban fantasy, gunslinging noir, Ghost Fox Killer book >no bittersweet family/political drama about Mother of Champions, her short-lived progeny, and the price of patriotism >no lighthearted book about Celestial Archer trying to balance superhero life with being an agent of the gods >no travelogue about the Seven Deadly Brothers fightin' 'round the world >no high adventure Silver Age throwback Thundermind book where he fights colorful supervillains and tries to win the love of Miss Wu with the aid of the schoolchildren of Beijing No.8 Middle School >no series following the Accomplished Perfect Physician as he tangles with secret societies, conspiracies, and cults >no anthology book about the men and women who sacrifice themselves as Immortal-Man-in-Darkness >no Socialist Red Guardsman book that develops a non-Western focused continuity for the Golden, Silver, and Bronze Ages
Oliver Lewis
What's wrong with thinking a story would make for a good movie? Aside from comic books working better as tv shows.
Grayson Perez
>comic books working better as tv shows. Un-ironically, this upset me more than it angered me.
Owen Ortiz
>sequential, serialized storytelling works best when adapted into a discreet narrative
The extended runtime of televison shows allows one to develop backstory and continuity that by necessity would be cut from films. The current issue with cape tv shows is over-extension of plot to fill runtime, which is a problem with writers and showrunners, not the format.
Blake Lee
You're absolutely right. I've thought more than once about how X-Men should be a high-budget, HBO-esque prestige TV show.
I even wrote out a rough per-episode guideline once that showed me you could do an entertaining and accurate adaptation of pretty much everything in the main books pre-Morrison with only 9 13-episode seasons. The reason I stop there is that The Twelve is a natural epic, long-build-up-to-big-bad-team-up stopping point, even if it ended up mostly sucking n the actual comics. The next appropriate stopping point would be Second Coming probably.
Noah Thomas
They're the bad guys, so maybe not?
Owen Butler
Firstly, the main problem is that DC is not really popular in China. The market itself is dominated by Manga/Manhwa/Manhua.
Secondly, US writers do not on any level, understand the foreign culture/history/perspective/psyche.
So yeah, not going to happen
Nicholas Sullivan
>Secondly, US writers do not on any level, understand the foreign culture/history/perspective/psyche. If Americans can't write about foreign culture/history/perspective/psyche then I don't want to see any foreigners trying to write about American culture/history/perspective/psyche.
Some of those are really good. It relies to much on the first arc and I'd prefer to see some slight variance versus shooting their load on people who really won't have any roles going forward.
The really need someone with a lot of charisma as the lead and I don't agree with their suggestion for that reason, although I don't have any alternatives that jump to mind.
Ayden Russell
>Capeshit is mainly the Chinese audience
The North America market (primarily the USA) can still account for as much as a half billion of a Superhero movie, when it does really well.
NO Superhero movie has EVER made anywhere near that much in China, Japan and South Korea combined.
Jonathan Taylor
Well, yeah, no foreigners bother to write about American stuff because no foreigners cares about America
Lucas Carter
This is why you never give an inch to those people. They are literally why we can't have nice things.
