When it started I bought a electronic keyboard and would just play around on it while watching tv.
I would read books, go for walks, generally just do stuff to keep my mind off how bored I was.

I would also put in Fallout 4 and use it as a constant reminder of how I've either grown out of gaming or video games are shit.

I still miss video games, but it's been 1 year since WoW, 10 months since Xbone, and 6 months since i've played any video game that wasn't something you could pause and play (megaman, castlevania, etc).

I think that there are only a finite number of incredibly captivating subjects and gaming will run through them in a cycle with some occasionally breaking the mold.
When there weren't any MMORPG it was easy to create World of Warcraft and blow everyone's mind for the first time.
Similar to the first time doing drugs or the first time getting some pussy, nothing will ever quite make you feel the wonder you felt experiencing something for the first time.
Subsequently, to make an experience transcend that level, it has to be better, like the first time you killed a raid boss or the first time you made a girl orgasm.

1. Games arent optimized for shit. Console ports are shit out and unplayable for months. Bethesda is as shit as ever.

Overwatch features a future with characters from all over the world of different races and cultures who are proud of their national heritage and display it openly have banter between each other about their differences but still come together to defeat common enemies, a bit like Sup Forums really

The only modern game I play now is Dwarf Fortress. DF is a masterpiece. I can't go back to regular games except old ones for nostalgia play throughs that I never finish. Oh and I still play Diablo 2 once in a while.

Yeah, it wasn't bad. But it's nothing compared to the magic I felt when playing the first Thief or System Shock 2. I played both again this year, finished SShock 2 with good fun.

But today nothing has this absolute freshness and bigger than life or better than reality appeal anymore. And I think games like SShock 2 were deeper and simply mire intelligent than the stuff they release today.
