Steven Universe tries too hard to be progressive.

I cant remember the name of it
It was some animated youtube video trying to be super deep about how people are so obsessed with their phones

Any Crossed comics written by David Hine. They remain the only comics to date I've been unable to get any enjoyment out of.

NuAT.

In what way?

College animations about capitalism and being a wage slave. I fucking hate the system but it doesnt mena it wasnt stale or pretentious

Watchmen

That is very vague, but was it this music video for Moby?

youtube.com/watch?v=VASywEuqFd8

>Moby
youtube.com/watch?v=XKPzKm3JdD8

Yup that'd be it.

Saga

Alan Moore's fish rape

What's Ales Kot writing right now?

That videos cringey is shit, but the music is pretty good

Zen Pencils

That one can't be pretentious, he wasn't even trying with Neonomicon

This weeb garbage

>cartoon
Adventure Time
>comic
Scott Pilgrim

...

Unironically Rick and Morty

>You're not a bad person you're just too smart

fuck off

The boys

Is that the same guy whose greatest claim to fame was getting BTFO by Eminem and then tearfully trying to make "Nobody listens to techno" his thing?

>tearfully trying to make "Nobody listens to techno" his thing

wasn't that Eminem himself?

The guy made shirts out of it.

Late Adventure Time.

Teen Titans GO! was a vast improvement over this... thing

To this day I still wish Moby really did get stomped by Obie

every superhero deconstruction that took influence from watchmen

Such as?

honestly most of them play out the same way they kinda just run together

but if you want an example for a shitty deconstruction there's that one webcomic i think it was called strong female protagonist or something

There is also this one.
Although it's made by my favourite animator, so at least it looks incredible.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=UKftOH54iNU

That wasn't pretentious, he wasn't trying to create art there. Lost Girls was, because he was trying to create great erotica that nobody would mind having on their shelf.

>that feel when you enjoy some of Moby's music but know that he's a colossal faggot as expected of a vegan (not a vegetarian, mind you)
I need to learn separating art from the artist.

That bird is giving me flashbacks to that cartoon where Tweety goes fully Jekyll and Hyde.

I'd say this one is even "better"

m.youtube.com/watch?v=vmi-MtP969M

But, wasen't the whole point that Rick is talking bullshit, but for some reason fans dosen't understand this?

I hate to start THAT shit, but this is the second time I see a shitty popular artist making a whiny song about Trump winning. How many of those are there?

>I hate to start THAT shit
You wouldn't have done it then

Exactly, it doesn't. It probably one of the least obnoxious 'progressive' things I've seen, given it bothers to make its characters interesting.

I think you're right, but I don't know if that's even trying hard enough to be smart to count.

This. Holy shit this. If there was ever a comic that was run enterly by platitudes of an unlikable character that the comic thinks is worldly and smart it's this.

is that pretentious or just retarded?

Generation Gone and some nazi memes in January
imagecomics.com/comics/releases/days-of-hate-1-of-12

Holy shit the kid who dropped out in 11th grade (out of 12) because of drug charges posted this on Facebook a few weeks ago. Good to see I'm not the only one who thought it was fucking awful. Ever since getting caught he's turned into the "It's not my fault it's the fault of the system!!!!" type of guy and keeps posting shit like this.

Wish You Were Here is pretentious as fuck. Still one of the better Crossed comics.

Kek.

Dresden Codak. I hate the author.

The comic is both. It's pretention is another form of it's retardation and vice versa.

The Lemonhope 2-parter of Adventure time. Fuck that psychedelic arthouse bullshit.

really makes me think desu

Neo Kosmos

I need to catch up on this. Not at all because I found it good, but I was endlessly baffled at how close to every page managed to get a cringe out of me.

Doonesbury. I understand that its older than me and has always been a left leaning strip, but it always feels preachy.

dobson's comics

So the moral here is that if you don't stop watching TV and obsess over cartoons your life and the world will be ruined?

>>You're not a bad person you're just too smart

But that is like the opposite of the show's point.

Rick thinks he is hot shit for being smart, but really he is an emotionally immature man-child despite being smart.

C'mon guys. We're all thinking it. Don't make me say it.

bruh I'm not gonna claim the show is a masterpiece but it basically spells out that Rick is a huge piece of shit. The infamous Pick Rick episode literally devotes the last five minutes to saying 'Rick is an asshole and you shouldn't want to be him.'

every single member of the family is a bad person and the show doesn't make excuses for them. They make their own excuses but that's part of why they're bad people.

its not that deep.

TTGo is shit, but 2003 TT got really pretentious anytime it tried to be serious, particularly anytime Robin or Raven dealt with Slade.

The word you're looking for is melodramatic. Half the people in this thread do not seem to know what pretentious means

I've never found a comic before this that made me deeply angry. "WE'RE PARANOID DOUCHEBAGS BECAUSE WE HAVE SUPERPOWERS, ALSO WE ARE ALL PHYSICALLY PERFECT FOR SOME REASON. YOU HAVE TO TORTURE PEOPLE, YOU HAVE TO KILL YOUR PARENTS, BWAAH EVERYONE HATES US EVEN THOUGH THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT US."

I don't recall why the user who storytimed this series found it appealing.

>black holes for the young
Sounds like a title you'd see on Pornhub

>Scott Pilgrim
>pretentious
kek

Honestly, storytiming that was worth it for the reactions alone kek

No one is going to know what I'm talking about or even read this post, but:

I took a graphic novel out from the library a while ago. It was about a young lady who was a sculptor (I think) visiting art galleries all around Europe and banging European dudes. BUT the kicker is that there was a significant subplot based on a conversation she had with a couple, two old German expats, about Hitler's rise to power. They ran a newspaper in Berlin during that whole nonsense and the subplot was ostensibly about the media's role in that.

That's the most pretentious thing I've ever read. I can't for the life of me remember the title or the author's name. To be honest, the Hitler stuff was pretty damn interesting.

That's actually the only thing it does right.
It tries too hard to pretend that it isn't a soap opera and that almost every character isn't a piece of shit.

I'm using right in the sense of "successful" not in the sense of "morally good"

Marville.

>I'm too stupid for a stupid people's show

Anything Kieron Gillen has ever written. He tries to write about smart things, but I've never seen him pull it off.

While I agree with you that the Pickle Rick episode is really overblown by the 'tists of the internet and that it's redeemed by its last 5 minutes, I feel like the writers tripped over themselves with the Beth episodes. They completely shat over their own point only to retroactively (maybe?) take it back in the finale. It's sloppy writing.

rick and morty

Holy fuck does Doonesbury suck.

Anything written by Frank Miller

I'm just piggybacking on your conversation, but I agree. That last Beth episode had too many story beats so every single one had to be treated kind of flippantly so they could bounce right to the next one with few emotional consequences. Things like "Beth realizing she's just like her dad" needed more time to air out and really land with the audience. Even a show that prides itself on its flippancy has to eventually think about how it's going to give this sort of thing weight. This is the principle failing of recent Rick and Mortys.

R&M isn't pretentious though. It's meme science, in the same vein as Neil Degrasse Tyson. It specifically appeals to the kind of shit average people will get, scientifically and philosophically. That's why people make fun of other people who call it a "deep" show.

>cartoon
Alan Gregory
>comic
That one about the alien women trying to fuck and kill a bunch of men, and everyone is an over emotional teenage retard.

Is that Prince Robot and his kid? I haven't read Saga in probably 3 years.

what was the name of that webcomic with a little management meeting where a robot, an alien, and a few other girls/a guy were there, and someone said something about their body and someone else told her not to use the word "body" because it offended the robot? saga or something?

Seconding the fuck out of this, you can feel Trudeau's smugness oozing from every inch of this ugly WORDS WORDS WORDS comic. My guitar teacher introduced me to underground comics and was an all-around cool guy, but the one really annoying thing about him was his love of Doonesbury

Found it!

Here's a random page I found on Google images. If you guys ever need to induce vomiting seek out this book.

>implying slave owners just knew their magic better

>blank face
>a cascade of a dialogue
Literally breaking one of the basic rules of comics. Always balance art and dialogue and remember the medium you’re working in.

It gets worse. Seriously I'm Canadian and I want all Canadians banned from ever being published because of this

jesus

...

I kept reading because I wanted to know more Hitler stuff

...

even a six year old knows how comics paneling works what the fuck is this shit

I feel like I'll get to use this a lot on here.

I mean, I guess?

Now that sounds plausible.

Did they draw this comic in GIMP. Because this looks exactly like a comic a made for an assignment using only GIMP and a computer mouse, except my speech bubbles were better.

>the abduction
Weren't most slaves sold by African lords themselves?

t. racist

>90% of the posts in this thread

What the fuck do you people think pretentious means

Anything that isn't comfy and fluffy episodic SoL completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots.

Literally anything written by Grant Morrison

It was some webcomic that some gawker website recommended to me. It was described as "Harry Potter meets X-Men". I thought that sounded badass. But when you actually read the thing it's just some indie comic about young hipster people standing/laying around and talking about "like, life and the universe man". The supernatural aspect has no relevance. It's was just the worst pseudolectual writing with the worst indie artwork. Wish I remembered the name of it.
