It's a sol it's a superhero setting
Started watching it this week. Something about it is just off. Like, I like the characters, but the episodes just seem boring as fuck. Very little action. Not much world-building either.
That said, it does remind me of Regular Show, so I do like it.
Garbage artstyle and animation
Too much reliance on references and referential humor
>reliance on references
But that's wrong
>referential humor
But that's fucking wrong
>Very little action
It's not an action show it's a comedy
>Not much world-building
It's not a drama it's a comedy. A character driven comedy.
>>referential humor
>But that's fucking wrong
Its not. watch the damn show. Just about everything in OK KO is a reference. All the characters are references to anime and video games and most of the visual gags are straight up references.
Show's creator, IJQ, lost his damn mind, "eating too much Sugar", apparently.
Besides the fact that even if those things were references, referential humor means you have to get the references for the jokes to be funny, which is patently false for OK KO.
>Just about everything in OK KO is a reference

How?
Not him but what?
KO, Enid, Rad, and Gar are all clearly based off of other characters.
Not how burden or proof with, but assuming you're referring to the "rad is piccolo" meme. Being an alien and having a beam power is such an incredibly small part of his character it's almost completely irrelevant. If you actually watched the show you realize that almost every character is far more than just X character.
You could do with explaining that statement
Name them.
Fucking hell, I meant "Not how burden of proof works"
Goku, Piccolo and some Naruto girl
IIt's a bit childish, the visuals are very inconsistent, I know that Ian Jones-Quartey says it's an artistic choice, but it seems like a lazy job, and the reference stuff is a bit annoying to me, it's not a show for everyone
KO- Kid Goku
Enid - Chun Li
Rad - Pickledick
Gar - Haggar
Opinion ignored
>. Being an alien and having a beam power is such an incredibly small part of his character it's almost completely irrelevant.
His design and fighting motifs are still based off of DB which was the original point
>KO - Kid Goku
He's excitable and a kid, what else is comparable about them? (Don't be a faggot and say the VA).
>Enid - Chun Li
Chun Li is an incredibly dedicated professional with years of disci- oh wait thighs. Okay fine.
>Rad - Pickledick
Assuming you mean Piccolo, a beam and an alien is not the basis of a character
>Gar - Haggar
Bait posting is bad for your soul user.
No.
>His design and fighting motifs
His design is far from Piccolo, and his fighting motif isn't even mildly fucking similar, Piccolo used special beam cannon like fucking 3 times in the series, and it functions far differently than Rad's beam which is his main fucking skill, stop being retarded and obtain more than a meme level understanding of either character
There was an entire Captain Planet episode. The fuck are you talking about.
>>Gar - Haggar
>Bait posting is bad for your soul user.
Unironically what do you mean by this
KO fags are as bad as SUfags
Hat was not a reference that was a legit captain planet episode
Why would you need to know what Captain Planet was to get that episode? I mean it was shit but it wasn't referencing events in Captain Planet, even if the old show didn't exist the episode doesn't change in the slightest because it doesn't rely on you knowing who any of the characters are in the episode more than what they explain within it.
The similarities are non existent beyond the fact they're muscle guys who don't where shirts? Were you seriously making that comparison as though it wasn't retarded?
characters being references to other characters/franchises is not the same as characters being exact carbon copies of the reference material.
>KO
don't forget that their design, motivation, and role in the show is also similar
>Enid
I'd really say that while visually, and with her fighting style often focusing on kicks, you can draw some clear parallels to Chun Li, but also to Sasuke as they are both ninjas (with the wood copies being an obvious naruto reference), both act like they're cool and aloof, and both have an affinity for fire in their fighting styles
>Rad
similar role as a mentor for a young warrior but mostly different personalities, his design is very clearly referencing piccolo in a parody/pastichey kind of way
>Gar
>pic related is Mike Haggar
>Mike Haggar -> Mister Gar
bruh
There's also fighting game tropes and anime tropes galore
Why deny that OK KO is full of tropes and references when its pretty much immediately obvious? It's not like its a bad thing that many things are references, the characters are still enjoyable for themselves but the little added stuff is just sort of like fun sprinkles for people who catch the refs, and as someone who likes all that stuff its honestly kind of a draw in for me.
Also, in case you still don't think KO is full of references, I submit the following:
youtube.com
>open thread thinking it's pretty soon for a new stealth general
>it's actually just a legit heated discussion
albeit this is better than seeing another post from pee user about robots pissing or some shit
anyways i like it, it's comfy and self aware and i dig that
I generally like it but feel that because the world has no rules; the stakes never feel real and you never care. Everything is just a bit TOO wacky.
What are the stakes?
You're watching the wrong cartoon. Watch garbage dramashit like SU
The danger never feels real because these characters are invincible. No danger = no tension = boredom. No matter how interesting the gags are.
It's a comfy show, jokes land often enough and I dig the chemistry between Enid, Rad, and KO. It feels like the show is stagnant plot wise though, that's my only gripe.
Its like a strong 7 to light 8 out of 10
this has been cartoonthony animationtano, internet's bussiest cartoon nerd
I hope it's not the stealth ko thread. I hate threads like these.
I for one ended up enjoying the show without getting/caring about the references.
What genre of show do you think it is?
>Tfw I'm not a weeb so I don't understand the references and just enjoy the show for what it is
>the show is stagnant plot wise
Fuck off lorefag. Do you cry about this shit with shows like Ed Edd n Eddy or Gumball?
This
Has the ok ko thread been deleted?
No, it just fell off page 10
It's all over the place.
Sometimes it wants to do "muh plot, deepest lore", 1/2 as an ironic joke, 1/2 as in you know deep down they're going to follow through with this shit. Sometimes it's zany off-the-walls fun and other times it's just preachy and boring.
Seems like it can't decide whether or not it wants the SU audience, but for sure it'll still rip off as much anime as possible.
Whether or not I like an episode or hate it seems to be a roll of the dice (holy fuck that furfaggot PSA), and at this point I cheer for Lord Boxman not just as the primary antagonist to the bodega plebs but as an overall more enjoyable character with a cute/funny family dynamic. If it's a good episode Boxman is involved, if not the main focus. Also Prof Venom and Fink are promising.
>bodega plebs
The correct term is Lakewood losers.
And the furry episode wasn't too bad. It didn't spend too much time with its message and made a joke out of it immediately afterwards.
>Tfw I'm not a weeb
>post show's biggest weeb as reaction image
It's managed to do something that SU never could: keep me engaged and happy.
A lot of that has to be because it doesn't do something similar to Steven universe's bomb format, I'd imagine?
I'd like to thank this show for reminding me that I want to pollute Doctor Blight
The people drawing it have fun drawing it and that enjoyment is passed on to me
Any porn of the doctor getting gangbanged by Cap and the Lakewood Teens?
i love it desu.
probably my second favorite CN show behind clarence at the moment.
i want to kiss fink and keep her cozy and warm
It has more to do with it not fellating itself and being a genuinely fun experience rather than an interstellar space opera with extra crying, hold the plot
The newest episodes are the best so far desu.
there better be more carla in the future
snagged this from /trash/
I still can't believe there's no fan art of Carla and PuppyKO interacting.
I love it, it's my current favorite show. I just wish the animation was more consistent.
brettygud
I want the unreleased Boxman episodes now, goddamn it.
Weird. I want to fuck her in the ass.
Whole i don't agree with everything you said, there is that scene where Mr. Gar suplexes Darrel similar to Haggar.
It’s fun. A little unfocused with the whole anything goes world building.
some episodes look better than others but i enjoyed it up until "No More POW Cards". i really can't stand politics in kids cartoons. i didn't think it was that bad in the "blorp" episode, but the "muh representation" message is too far 'cause it's just fucking wrong.
going on a bit of a tangent here. as a black guy myself, the whole representation issue is some dumb shit parents made up to project onto their stupid kids. its a bigoted way of thinking, honestly. if you were truly "progressive" you would let your kids look up to any character regardless of what they are. so i was just too insulted by that episode to even want to continue desu
it also seemed like a bit of a jab at SU fans i think, so i guess that part was alright
forgot to mention, i want to fuck nearly all the girls on the show so i certainly still appreciate it for that
Just keep going. It doesn't get that preachy again (aside from the Captain Planet crossover episode where the preachiness is itself a joke and it's so excessive that it becomes enjoyable). No More POW Cards is definitely the low point of the show so far, and I say that as someone who wasn't bothered by the politics or whatever as much as you.
the ep really just soiled my view on the show and the intentions of the people working on it. i think it's a solid, entertaining kids show but i'd rather just give up on it and watch better shows at this point.
I mean the message there was as much "racism bad" as it was "muh representation". More than anything I disliked it because it was boring shit I've seen rehashed a thousand times before.
The representation thing is only touched upon in Dendy's speech and even then not very hard, I don't think it's an indication of the writers using the show to as a tool push their inane politics. The show in general is very tame with the things it tries to push (largely based around being a good person and friend), and for the most part even No More POW Cards isn't an exception.
Even Elodie?
Elodie is only aloud to be shipped with suffering and pain
>Enid - Chun Li
Agree with everything except this, personality and design are nothing alike.
No it's just one faggot making us all look bad, I agree the characters are based on video game characters, I also agree that the show is full of refrences, doesn't matter to me though the show is funny and that's what matters.
JESUS
I quite like it so far, had a slow start but what show hasn't desu. At the same time, this show is one of the reasons SU hasn't been on in a long while (besides how you can't fucking re-run SU due to having to know previous episodes when just jumping into a random ep) so I do want this season done so we can transition into new SU and then re-runs of KO.
P.s: I want to fuck every female in this show too
Please just go back
???
bruh the whole plot revolved around kappas not being represented and how important it was to dendy, obviously a real life parallel to people claiming girls who dont have any good female characters to look up to, etc. its stupid and hamfisted. that boss of the company was such a strawman it was embarassing
I thought it was more a race thing, seeing as how kappas are a race not a gender and how the show's creator is himself black and may have actually experienced such feelings.
How the Fuck did you draw parallels to sexisim?
Her pilot design was much more obvious
Because he hates feminists more
>being literally retarded
i worded it badly, i think it goes for sex AND race. i see mainstream media care way more about female representation than black representation but thats just me
YES
I NEED MORE FUCKING CARLA
The ultimate moral in that episode was pretty on point though, which is that getting angry and protesting does nothing and the real cure for prejudice is money.
Sadly, we'll probably never see her again.
b
...
I'd say K.O. is a lot closer to Ryu from street fighter, what with his Evil Ryu-ish dark side and his constant drive to improve
But yeah. You're absolutely right. Just about everything in Ok K.O. is a reference. The loudmouth on this thread who disagrees is obviously a troll and should not receive any (You)s. Especially with that Mike Haggar comment.
The show is about waiting for Magi and Brandon to come out of the closet.
Do people like Dendy? It seems like the animators are really pushing her.
she's like a webby character
Magi's a skeleton. The closet is where he belongs.
...
I laughed way more than I should of here. I rewind it several times over just to see that over and over.
Felt like classic aqua team hunger force.
> tainting bromance with faggotry
So, they're still their own characters. It's not supposed to be subtle or anything, I don't understand why people think this is an argument against the show.
Mmm I guess. But like there are several female pow cards though.
Just because it uses them, doesn't mean it relies on them. A lot of the humour is classic slapstick. Sure, it uses referencial humour and references, but it uses them to enhance the comedy, rather than relying on them alone for the laughs.
I like episodes where they aren't afraid to get a bit wacky.
>Implying the Captain Planet episode was shit
ok what ep this from nigga
Stop Attacking the Plaza
nice gonna watch that later ty
The episode was a straight-up crossover. They didn't try to beat about the bush or have be a character that was a reference to Captain Planet, it was straight up Captain Planet. It also helps that the episode was a legitimately funny, respectful send-up of what made Captain Planet goofy, but also good. Also, best line in the whole franchise.
>"Infighting? Oh no, this is why all the other, original Planeteers went and got real jobs!"
