Cap's Kooky Quarter really upped the writing on the book for some reason.
Also, I feel like Don Heck was the first person to draw Cap's shield as concave instead of just a flat disk, an I really appreciate that.

It's more that Roy Thomas was just a better Avengers writer than Stan Lee ever was.

That's probably true, but unless Roy ghost wrote like the first year of "Cap, Clint, and Pietro argue constantly" then even Stan was better with them as a group than the originals.
Like, even though both groups were constantly sassing each other, the Quartet just worked better somehow.
