Japan's take on Sup Forums properties

Which one's your favorite?

Gets pwned by a little girl/robot with poo on a stick.

When was this?
Also marvel disk wars had some good moments

I have a special hole in my heart regarding Pippy Longstocking.

There are a bunch of background cameos of western super heroes in Urusei Yatsura. Oddly, although Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman always had their designs tweaked (like this mustached Superman here or a kanji replacing his S in another scene where he had a speaking role), Spider-Man often appeared with minimal changes.

>Spider-Man often appeared with minimal changes

Because of the Toei series, the Japanese likely weren't aware that Spider-Man was a Western character at the time.

There was an episode of the Second Lupin III tv series called "Lupin III vs. Superman" which is... exactly what it sounds like.

Japan at the time gave 0 shits about international copyright theft and trademark infringement. Fuck, Lupin III himself was a copyright theft, as Arsene Lupin hadn't even entered the public domain yet.

Superman looks suspiciously like Zennigata.

Japan is super strict on copyright infringement, even in parody. Probably didn't want to get their asses sued.

That, or they just thought it was funny.

The "su" makes it.

That's the reason why he keeps managing to keep up with Lupin III.

Then, what's the deal with Super Sonic?

In the 70s, they were only strict with domestic copyrights. Most international copyrights weren't recognized and a lot of bootleg-tier stuff was churned out because there was no way to stop them.

It wasn't until Japanese companies began actually paying licenses for foreign IPs that they actually started to care about recognizing international copyrights. Because the Japanese companies that were paying the licensing costs were getting fucked by the companies that were just taking foreign IPs without asking.

I liked when they had Wonder Woman and Superman have a red headed kid.

...

This appeared in Mystery of Mamo, which was a theatrical release in Japan. Obviously, they didn't ask DC Comics for permission, much less paid any licensing fees.

Japan worked differently back then and just used any gaijin property they wanted, whenever they wanted, without giving a shit about laws.

>just used any gaijin property they wanted, whenever they wanted, without giving a shit about laws
Damn, just like the internet. Such love.

Nah, Frogs are just booty blasted that they can't make a classy character like Lupin in modern times.

And years later TMS will do a official Superman project.

Rittah Ruru?

just like China

Have you ever seen Zenigata and Superman together at the same time?
