I worked at Twitter's SF office for almost 2 years during its prime, so I understand Twitter's culture fairly well.
1. First of all, the executives at Twitter absolutely love diversity, but instead of hiring a Latino or black person from a state school, they ONLY target minorities inside their target schools (Stanford, UIUC, Berkley, etc.), so they don't have to deal with "below average" talent.
I had a friend who worked on their recruiting team, they were instructed by the upstairs to parse resumes and filter out "shit schools", which is actually quite normal in the industry, regardless of talent.
2. Twitter is cucked from the CEO down. Jack Dorsey is the biggest douchebag that has ever walked in Silicon Valley (yes, worse than Bill Gates). Mr. Dorsey thinks he can run as many companies as he wants and seriously thinks he's on the same playing field as Elon Musk - seriously.
Twitter actively hides, shadow bans, and promotes trends that fit their company's agenda. I know for a fact they read direct messages and sometimes even stalk big Twitter accounts for creepy purposes (I'd rather not talk about this).
Point is - Twitter is well-connected to pleasing the big boys in Washington. They have a small office in DC but last I checked, it wasn't listed in any of their directories. Stay away from that shithole.
I don't have a Twitter account and I've never felt like I'm missing out on anything either important or interesting.
Do people working at Twitter expect that the company will go down within the next few years? Do they believe Twitter is not a fad and will be profitable eventually?

I applied to Twitter for a summer engineering internship and got a coding challenge from them
Eventually I decided not to do it because twitter just announced layoffs & I don't care for their product & I got better offers (from Microsoft and Google)
Do you think I made the right move?
Is working at twitter getting progressively worse? Why are they struggling so much?
I'm black btw (not kidding)

I expect all the big tech companies are for diversity as they have connections with the establishment in DC, from Wikileaks we see Mark Jewberg wanting to learn from Hillary etc.
What are your thoughts on FOSS or open source, can that help prevent the problems you have experienced? Communities that create transparency.

How do Shadowbans work? Are they permanent? Is it easy to be shadowbanned or do you have to say a lot of stuff that the Twitter heads don't agree with?

Wondering this to, what's the point of claiming to be for diversity if they're so judgemental? Even if they have the talent what if they don't have the same ideals or beliefs as them?

Nigga quite role playing.
They don't hide or shadow ban shit. Yall nigga let bots be used on yall site but everything made and spammed through are given little to no priority given how twitters trend shit works. And then past shit doesn't come up and trend as much when it becomes relevant since then shit like fucking Justin beiber would always be on top.
Like shit nigga not everything is a conspiracy theory working against your beliefs backed by your gay as feelings you know?
Quite role playing about shit that you aint got much of clue as to how it works ya fag.

> Twitter will never be profitable > its market value is purely based on speculation (future/growth projections); > But Twitter stopped growing a couple of years ago... Which means: twitter is doomed.
Facebook can't buy it because it would be a monopoly.
it will probably be bought by Google when its value sinks to 1b or some shit.

Not OP, but dev for multiple F500 companies throughout my career.
Not really, unless you're doing math heavy dev. Most work is CRUD shit or integrating two systems that can't talk to eachother. The rest is showing companies how to actually cache shit properly so the site doesn't fall down.

> filter out "shit schools" Filter out 100% or do they let people in who pass some kind of mark. Also, how does HR avoid getting the company into potential legal issues with this?
Christopher Green
>I had a friend who worked on their recruiting team, they were instructed by the upstairs to parse resumes and filter out "shit schools"
This scares me. I'm still in school for CS, but I go to a no-name state school. I spend most of my free time building software projects and I have a very high GPA. I've been programming since I was 12, and am pretty good with math, problem solving and algorithms.
Yet, I'm still going to fucking fail in this field because HR will just instantly decide I'm shit for not coming from one of the top 5 schools in the country.
Do you have any advice for how to get ahead in this field? Is my only hope to try and transfer to a more prestigious school and branch off from there?
Fucking hell, I know this is a shitty field to get a job in, but it's really, really what I want to do

It really depends on what kind of software you are creating. For instance; building a graphics engine requires a lot of calculus. Designing a network requires some discreet math. Basic programming doesn't require any of this. All you require is an understanding of the syntax, so software design can be very accessible even for people with poor math skills.
To answer your question more clearly: yes, an understanding of mathematics is essential to being a 'good' programmer.
Brayden Moore

Tell your boss to read Marshal McCluhen, and let him know that the format of Twitter has caused a lot of the fascism you see today. Fascism starts with the abuse of language, and I can't think of a more egregious abuse than to limit thought to 140 characters. This place, with it's rapidly disheartening threads, is pretty bad too, which is why it attracts so many fascists.
