Dark Crystal/puppet movies thread

Just finished this masterpiece, and all I gotta say is holy fucking shit. I cannot even imagine the amount of work and soul put on this shit, and I can't even imagine how much it actually delivers. I read that this is visually stunning but it leaves a lot to be desired in the story department but that cannot be more wrong. There's a solid fantasy story here that unlike most it is actually filled with wonder and adventure and bravery and sacrifice and shit. This feels like the blueprint of Jackson's LOTR trilogy desu.

Most of all, I just love the atmosphere of this, I love how it feels dark and weird but never gets too alien to be uncomfortable, there's a deep lore going on here aswell that makes the world feel alive as fuck.
And fucking hell the Skeksis, I mean, the Gelflings rarely do feel "alive" because they lack some expressions, but the Skeksis never feel like puppets, how did they manage to pull that shit off in 1982? Jesus Christ.

I'm fully into the puppet meme now, how good is Labyrinth?

yes, it definitely feels alive and surreal
not like the CG fests of today

also the music gets intense near the end, like the universe is about to end

>I'm fully into the puppet meme now, how good is Labyrinth?
not as good as dark crystal unfortunately

Labrynth is a better movie, but Dark Crystal is better artwork.

'I may be small but allow me to remind you that only serves to put me at castration level.'

> henson claims it was his vision
> all of the artwork is by Brian Froud
> henson is dead
> Froud is not

maybe there's some hope for this, if Brian Fround is involved.

of course he won't be.

Fuck you that shit traumatuzed me for life.

Love this little nigger.
I liked the first puppet they used better than the replacement even though the new one looked more "realistic".

the '80s remake of little shop of horrors will never not be mind-blowing to me

>Age of #Resistance

Dbrrrunmnohfghgt!!!

It's a shame puppetry apparently hasn't evolved at all in fifty years. That guy in the end looked super stiff.

The filmed it in slow motion then sped the film up to normal speed.

>puppetry hasn't evolved
That is objectively false in every sense of the word, you know that right?

Someone should tell Netflix

everything about the movie is interesting except the story.

it's weird how they're targeted towards children, when they have such intricate production

monsters in del toro flicks has a lot of mechanical animated parts in them

bump

does anyone remember the name of that puppet movie that was kinda horror-ish with the weird cat guy

it was kinda recent, like in the last 10 years

No, but I have vague memory of what you're talking about. Its gimmick is that it was one of the first movies to use a bunch of puppets in some time.
