Which is your favorite? And what method do you use to buy/pirate and watch them?
What postwar Japanese movies would you recommend?

Idk but I've been in Japan for three weeks and I'm sick of these condescending ugly gooks
Two nukes wasn't enough
I saw that one about the mother-in-law who dresses up as a demon to prevent her daughter-in-law from going to her son's friend's house and sleeping with him.
It was good
but youre surrounded daily by la creatura US military men, soldier
battles without honor and humanity
Tampopo
No, more like surrounded by a million japs crammed on a subway car together
you grab some ching chong ass?
t.Akira Toriyama
>Stray dog
>The bad sleep well
>Throne of blood
Tokyo story/seven samurai if you're on some kind of 1000 movies to watch before you die type deal
I think 'Ran' is still my favorite.
'Throne of Blood' is awesome too, there are too many excellent Kurosawa films to mention, but I am particularly fond of those two Shakespeare adaptations. But I don't want to just recommend Kurosawa films. Masaki Kobayashi deserves a mention too - 'Hara Kiri' (also translated as 'Seppuku') is fucking great, as is 'The Human Condition'.
Also, Hiroshi Inagaki's 'Samurai Trilogy' is good.
For something more contemporary that I believe is still in the tradition of these great Samurai films, try 'The Twilight Samurai'.
All torrentable.
>tfw too much of an adhd faggot to watch long movies
>Throne of Blood
good taste
great suggestions
also for a modern ish film watch
Taboo
starring Beat Takeshi
dont read synopsis or plot cause they usually contain spoilers
just find a good copy with subs and watch it
great action and acting with beautifully shot scenes
really great samurai story
just watch them in 20 minute chunks like it's a mini series. Many films are written as a series of Acts like a play and if you take a break after each act it shouldn't jarr too much. It spoils it a little from a non-ADHD point of view but I don't think you should miss out just because they are long films.
not the user you replied to but >homo shit
That's cool. I'm gonna get to watching some then.
>Toriyama
Akira Kurosawa?
you are why we cant have nice things
Pale Flower is good
just watch every single thing Kurosawa ever made. outside of his samurai movies, which are obviously the most popular, there are a bunch of hidden gems you are bound to find ..
>Stray Dogs
>The Lower Depths
>Dersu Uzala
High and low
Hana-bi
7 Samurai is good but it's capeshit though
you guys can do it all you want but im not interested
how do you know if you do not watch...just the first 10 minutes bro...its just real life historic story telling of true comraderie between based samurai bros...no ones around...just watch a little
fine. beat better not be doing any homo shit though.
Why did you say 'post war', OP?
Can you recommend some good pre-war Jap movies?
Dude fuck Tokyo Story
100% honest in saying it's only popular because it got caught up in that 60's French cultural artsy shit and it got toured around movie festivals because it was different than everything else showing at the time.
It holds zero weight by itself.
Kagemusha is my favorite. Or Ran
>Ran
You are correct.
Kagemusha would make a great comedy... It's a natural fit for a remake.
yes a Western remake with Ben Stiller in the title role
>Akira Kurosawa
The creator of Dragonball Z?
No, that was Miyazaki
The creator of dark souls?
ran
Heaven & Earth is the superior samurai epic
better than all these pleb answers
that's the one
>How should we simulate a castle burning down?
>I know
>build a castle
>then burn it down
>genius
