Ask a Warner Archive employee about future cartoon releases

Hello, I work over at Warner Archive and I have been releasing cartoons on DVD-R and Blu-Ray discs for years now (since 2009 really), yesterday there was a Looney Tunes topic that I posted in that I give out some details about future cartoon releases.

Anything you want to ask me about future cartoon releases? Heres the last thread I was in.

How much longer till all of the 30s and 40s warner bros cartoons goes into public domain?

When are we going to get a fucking non-Batman cartoon? I want WW but I'll take Flash or Superman

A whole lot of years, but we are making sure we keep the right to them.

I thought all copyright was removed once in public domain

Rock Odyssey?

Whenever DC feels like it, I don't make the cartoons, I just release them on DVD & Blu-Ray.

We are pretty much doing the same thing as Disney about keeping our cartoons under copyright.

Can we get some new BTS for Batman Remastered? Is Bruce TImm involved on color correction or is he just doing PR?

When are the new Looney tunes Wabbit episodes dropping?
I await screenshots of my mediocre frenchy waifu

Porn when?

Any fun Scooby Doo movie ideas coming soon? Also is WB still moving forward with S.C.O.O.B. and the Hannah Barbera cinematic universe?

It's complete bullshit how how disney and to a lesser extent warner bros are complete jews about copyright. Just let ancient cartoons that the makers and writers are all dead just go into public domain, there doesn't need to be 75+ year copyright extensions and another 20 whenever disney bribes congress to extent.

What format are the Looney Tunes source masters on?

Who keeps coming up with all of these weird Tom & Jerry crossover movies and are there any more coming out after Willy Wonka?

what are some interesting rumours circulating the place.

how's the production side of things? getting much work?

this is a good question. How are the originals holding up, if they haven't been lost yet? Did Warner make the whole stock digital?

1. Are you guys planning more Looney Tunes sets like the Porky Pig 101 set?
2. Where's Duck Dodgers season 3? Seasons 1 and 2 got DVD-R releases back in 2013, then nothing for the last season.
3. Any more 00's Kids WB shows coming down the pipeline? Wondering specifically about Mucha Lucha and Legion of Superheroes.

Duck Dodgers season 3 WHEN???
If you have any influence whatsoever PLEASE ask them to put this out, don't care if digital even.

>Where's Duck Dodgers season 3? Seasons 1 and 2 got DVD-R releases back in 2013, then nothing for the last season.
They got regular releases, not DVD-Rs.

When will the rest of Static Shock be on DVD ?

Courage the Cowardly Dog is WB still, right? Any future plans for the franchise?

Would WB ever consider doing a DCAU box-set with extras like new behind the scenes stuff and commentaries?

Scooby info plz

Why would you ask this?
The show ended, all seasons are on DVD.
Go away.

Hanna Barbera stuff is all selected at random so unless there is a licencing issue we will get to Rock Odyssey eventually, I will like to see Huckleberry Hound Volume 2 on DVD-R myself.

Speaking of Hanna Barbera, Bandai Namco did call us a couple of days ago asking us to release the 80s Pac-Man cartoon for retail, we said yes as the Diamond Collection releases that we shipped to retail are doing very well for us and Pac-Man (which would of been the complete series under their request) would of been a holiday release, however with the release of Porky Pig 101 and it selling so well that it out sold not only every other release we had at the Archive but retail releases such as every animated DC Movie released since The Flashpoint Paradox, every Tom & Jerry and Scooby-Doo direct to video movie released this decade and the 2 direct to video releases based on Batman 66 we had to call off Pac-Man in favor of focusing on remastering old theatrical shorts.

You go away you dumb faggot

Is Young Justice Season 3 going to come out on video?

Seriously man, you're taking away attention from shows that desperately need it. There is ZERO chance of a Courage revival, it had a LONG run.

How is the two part death and return of Superman coming along? Does it use the new 52 art style?

That reminds me, on the subject of video game cartoons from the 80's:
tvshowsondvd.com/news/Saturday-Supercade-DVDs-Planned/14789
Way back in 2010, Warner Archive had discussed the possibility of releasing the Ruby-Spears anthology Saturday Supercade (or at least certain segments, I know the Donkey Kong/Donkey Kong Jr shorts were off the table and Sony has the rights to the Q*Bert shorts). Has any progress at all been made on that in the years since?

Not my department.
No idea about new Scooby-Doo ideas as I don't make the cartoons, but the Hanna Barbera cinematic universe is still going strong.
35MM Film.
1.At both Warner Archive & Warner Home Video were remastering the first classical animation sets after Porky Pig 101, can't say which is getting a release first or if it will see a retail release, but I can say is that money is no longer a issue, we are still doing rereleases first to get some extra cash, however those are archive only.

2.The production side of things is great, even when you don't have much cash to work with working at Warner Archive is a blast.

3.Great if not excellent.
1.Yes but better, we are doing a complete Bugs, Daffy Enchanted Porky (set for retail), Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester & Tweety, Road Runner & Coyote and Bosko & Buddy (set for Warner Archive, really the rest of the black & white Looney Tunes to get those done with), most of them except for Bosko & Buddy may get retail releases and if they do they will show up faster then expected which is all I'm saying about the subject.

2.Cant say when right now, just that it needs to be pressed and shipped.

3.Yes but our main focus is remastering classical animation.

not the WB employee but all pre-50s cartoons were captured on 35mm nitrate film. cellulose nitrate was used as guncotton for a time so shit's highly flammable and unstable. this part of the reason why like 90% of silent era films are lost forever. after the 40s they had perfected a less flammable film stock.

If WB doesn't hold these nitrate films in their own vaults (likely) then they're probably being held at UCLA.

Is there any interest in releasing more classic CN? Specifically Johnny Bravo.

Speaking of Hanna-Barbera, I'd love to see Space Ghost and Birdman get rereleased.

The recent release of the Superman Extended Cut was Warner Archive, right? Any details about any other cuts if live action DC movies coming forward? I know they're all readily available, but that extended cut got me thinking about what other cuts might be laying around the studio.

Will the possibility of other DCAU Blu Ray releases (Superman, Batman Beyond) hinge on how well the BTAS Blu Rays are received?

Any idea if Justice League Action will get a Blu Ray release? How about Fleischer's Superman?

Also thanks for putting iZombie on Blu Ray.

Are the DC Nation shorts going to get a DVD release?

Tell WB to buy the rights from Robert Cuckman's Invincible and give it a good animated movie.

Any chance for a Freakazoid or Max Steel (original kidsWB) bluray release?

Teen Titans and The Batman desperately need both Blu-rays and OST releases. (OSTs probably even more, though, given the widescreen digital releases of both series - though TB isn't in HD.)

Any chance whatsoever of a Megas XLR DVD release? I read there's some tax problem with airing it on TV, but it's unclear if it applies here as well, especially since SBT is apparently in the same situation yet got DVDs (in Australia).

It would be so awesome to finally buy it on disc

If DC allows it then yes.
Not my department.
Yes, Q-Bert was cleared as we agreed to give Sony a cut from the profits but Nintendo wanted a retail release for Saturday Supercade due to that they were still using Mario and Donkey Kong, we might see a retail release eventually as we still get calls from Nintendo about a retail release for Saturday Supercade at least once every month (on top of game releases of which is not my department) but with the success of Porky Pig 101 a release of Saturday Supercade is put on hold.
Yes, but the focus now is releasing classical animation.
Hanna Barbera releases are all all selected at random, they will show up when they show up, and since the Diamond Collection is doing well for us it might even be a retail release as well.

We will see about it.
>The recent release of the Superman Extended Cut was Warner Archive, right? Any details about any other cuts if live action DC movies coming forward? I know they're all readily available, but that extended cut got me thinking about what other cuts might be laying around the studio
Yes it is, and if there is any more extended cuts we will release them when the time is right.

>Will the possibility of other DCAU Blu Ray releases (Superman, Batman Beyond) hinge on how well the BTAS Blu Rays are received?
No, those will get a release regardless of sales (we expect them to do well anyway).

>Any idea if Justice League Action will get a Blu Ray release?
If DC wants it yes.

>How about Fleischer's Superman?
Shortly after Blu-Ray Popeye at the very least.

>Also thanks for putting iZombie on Blu Ray.
You're welcome.
If DC allows them to get a release then yes.
We don't own the rights to Max Steel but Freakazoid and the other Steven Spielberg cartoons will get Blu-Ray releases, it's just that the Bruce Timm shows are going first as we don't have enough staff to do both the Timm & Spielberg cartoons at once.

Both are set for Blu-Ray but out main focus is on classical animation.
I'm not in the legal department, I just release the shows on DVD & Blu-Ray.

>Yes, Q-Bert was cleared as we agreed to give Sony a cut from the profits
Was that before or after the Q*Bert DVD that Sony released in 2015?

>I'm not in the legal department, I just release the shows on DVD & Blu-Ray.
I know, I'm asking if there's been any talk about it.

After.
Yes (same with Sym-Bionic Titan), but as of late we are mainly focused on classical animation (as in before 1970) due to Porky Pig 101's success.

Duck Dogers complete series on Blu-ray when? I really want to see season 3 in HD

Written off shows are fucking dead. Period. You'd have to buy a bootleg set or make your own if you want a physical release.

When the time is right within Warner Archive.

Just FYI seasons 1 and 2 are in crystal clear HD digitally. So I'm guessing season 3 would also be DVD-only in terms of physical releases.

Did you not read my post you faggot?
SBT actually GOT a DVD release. I've read some conflicting info but some say it's only for TV airing.

I did not say anything about releasing them, I only said that there were talks and nothing more.

Season 3 will get a Blu-Ray release as "The Complete Series", a solo release will be DVD only but through Warner Archive or retail is still being decided on.
>SBT actually GOT a DVD release.
In Australia, I deal with the US side of things.

Release The scarecrow movie by Richard Rich.

When the time is right.

>Season 3 will get a Blu-Ray release as "The Complete Series
Neat, will it be released digitally as well?

Why the fuck does the WA still release stuff on DVD-R? I was looking forward to getting Static Shock, Zeta Project and Porky 101 but no way in hell am I paying full price of some burnt dvds.

I know all your Blu-Rays are pressed and you did a limited run of Porky 101 pressed so why not just do it for all dvds? Especially ones that have a long sale tail life like the DCAU and Looney Tunes stuff?

Will the Bugs 101 etc that you talked about include All This and Rabbit Stew? Any plans to officially release the censored 11?

You said sales for Porky 101 have bee great, what kind of numbers are we talking about here? 1k, 10k etc sales?

are the odds to see a new standalone batman cartoon series in the next 5 years slim?

I'm guessing the Censored 11 DVD collection is dead, but is there a chance for a Clampett collection?

not a cartoon but any chance Lois and Clark gets a blu-ray release ever??

Favorite release?

>asking the useless questions
Back to your usual site, AMAfag.

Since "Batman VS Two-Face" has got me thinking about Adam West Batman, will there be a retail release of the "Legends of The Superheroes" DVD Warner Archive did some years ago? I don't like to buy stuff online, and the one copy I have physically seen at a previously-owned DVD store was close to 40 dollars.

Does Warner handle the dvd releases of Hanna-Barbera shows? Because I wouldn't mind seeing an actual dvd release of Flintstones: On The Rocks

Just curious, but how well did the DC Nation shows that were cancelled sell (Young Justice, Green Lantern, Beware the Batman)? I'd imagine YJ sold enough to help the demand for a third season, but what about the latter two?

Beware the Batman got DVD/BD releases. Being "written off" just prevents them from airing on TV. DTV and streaming are another thing entirely.

When are you going to release an HD release of CyberSix, with the full themesong?!

>Does Warner handle the dvd releases of Hanna-Barbera shows?
Not OP, but even I know Warner releases the Hanna-Barbera shows.

Are you retarded?
1. WB has nothing to do with that show, period.
2. It was not made in HD or 16:9 to begin with.
3. The rights for the full theme song have nothing to do with releasing the show itself, which is why it wasn't included on the DVDs.

You'd be better off contacting TMS about that.

What's something you know you have in the archive and you personally would really want to release, but Warner won't let you for whatever reason?

Most likely yes.
They were talks about going fully pressed for DVD releases just like with our Blu-Ray releases but for some reason they (the studio heads) still insist to use DVD-Rs, I don't know why.

That is up for debate, what is known is it will not be the same issue as the Tom & Jerry Golden Collection Vol.2 with it's "racist" cartoons, all I can say is Family Guy gets away with alot worse then whats in the Censored Eleven (the studio heads' words, not mine) and that it made them think twice about striping cartoons from release.

A solo Censored Eleven release is not set for a release any time soon, but spiting up the cartoons in multiple releases such as the Tex Avery & Bugs Bunny set seem to be the way to go as it seems to be hinted at.

Also the Bugs Bunny set will have more then 101 cartoons on it.

>Both are set for Blu-Ray
Thanks so much for the info! However, the digital HD releases of Teen Titans ALL have the same issue where the opening teasers (several minutes) are missing in the first two season finales.

Do you know anything about this? Is it a known problem?

I don't make the cartoons, I just put them on DVD & Blu-Ray.
After the Tex Avery set for sure, Chuck Jones too (including his MGM work as well and anything we own the rights to with his name on it).

The Censored Eleven is still set for release but it's just not something we need to rush out the gate.
When DC wants a release.
Porky Pig 101.
We will see.
Yes for almost all of their output and Hanna Barbera stuff is selected at random so The Flintstones: On The Rocks will show up when it does.
They sold very good, but Porky Pig 101 blew them out of the water.
>You said sales for Porky 101 have been great, what kind of numbers are we talking about here? 1k, 10k etc sales?
Way over 100k in the first month to say the least.
To tell the truth, if something has not come out, it will come out eventually but I will have to say Quick Draw McGraw due to music licencing issues (or so I heard).

Will OK KO, Uncle Grandpa, and Steven Universe get proper season releases?

Will Bunnicula continue to be released on DVD?

Will the rest of Regular Show finally get released?

Thank you.

That will be fixed for it's Blu-Ray release, that much I know.

For all of them yes, through Warner Archive and also on Blu-Ray.

Just not right now.

Maybe a dumb question, but why would UCLA have them?

Hey triples, you are that new marketing A.I.?

>you're taking away attention from shows that desperately need it

Oh fuck off with your sanctimonious bullshit it's just cartoons

>There is ZERO chance of a Courage revival, it had a LONG run

Except Dilworth made a short a few years ago to gauge interest, and after Samurai Jack's success it wouldn't be unreasonable for CN to reveisit other properties.

If you want to get the OSTs you need to buy the other DCAU OSTs first that aren't BTAS, the label already said as much.

What's the space jam 2 situation, do they have a story yet? I am working on a treatment.

What the fuck is up with the vending machine on the second floor that apparently has not been refilled in more than a year? Why is it even plugged in at this point?

Censored Eleven release when?

Also, no tripcode, OP?

What about the Courage the Cowardly Dog OST? The dumb faggot complaining about me asking for the show can't say that's been released.

Are there any animated shows where WB is missing the master copy?

Also not cartoon related, but do you know why WB never releases the 1 season CW shows on DVD? The Secret Circle, Star-Crossed, etc, all WB shows I'd actually buy if they released them.

Samurai Jack didn't have an ending, and needed one (at least in comparison). Courage didn't even need an ending, but already got one anyways.

>Way over 100k in the first month to say the least.
Holy shit. You guys must've made a fucking killing on that considering it wasn't restored and was just DVD-R. Better use that money for more/better releases.

their school has a humongous film/AV archive, second only to the Library of Congress. Being close to Warner Bros HQ also makes transporting flammable stock easier and cheaper (only government vehicles or Hazmat certified shippers can carry it)

Sounds like they've admitted their mistake re. Tom & Jerry Vol 2? Is there any chance of the set being revived?

Some really awesome info ITT.
Do you know anything about the cropping on the Samurai Jack Blu-ray? Was there a reason for it?

I don't know about any other properties other than the DC Soundtrack releases. Batman: TAS stuff written by Shirley Walker and company sell well, and so additional volumes get released.

But the Superman TAS OST does not nearly as well, even though it's by the same people and sounds just as great, so the label is hesitant to create additional volumes for more Superman or branch into other DC Shows.

youtu.be/FHpOVBEXCxM
youtu.be/RBG2ZZe7zY8

Long story short, buying the releases is what gets more volumes. The guys behind the soundtrack releases want to get them out the door. Buy Superman/other DC releases and other series will follow.

filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=119094&forumID=1&archive=0

Teen Titans is far more popular than any non-Batman DCAU series. It's silly and unfair to hold that one back.

Oh and also, is there in fact 5.1 audio for all of the episodes, and if so how come the Blu-ray only has 2.0?

The premiere movie DVD (episodes 1-3 and 11 of season 1) apparently has 5.1 audio...

It may be more popular has a show, but a soundtrack release is always different. The two don't always correlate.

I've got a ton of DC Soundtrack releases too, and more that I want. There's tons of stuff from STAS and Justice League/Unlimited that have still been unreleased, and those two titles [Superman & Justice League (w/o Unlimited)] have had an initial release but have not sold well enough to receive more expansions. Teen Titans isn't the only one stuck in purgatory.

>but spiting up the cartoons in multiple releases such as the Tex Avery & Bugs Bunny set seem to be the way to go as it seems to be hinted at.
Well A Coy Decoy was included in Porky 101 (which has a scene of Daffy riding a Mammy like a horse) I really hope you guys just quietly release the censored 11 that way if they don't get their own stand-alone release.

Speaking of
>the Tom & Jerry Golden Collection Vol.2 with it's "racist" cartoons
Any word on if that'll ever be released? It was all ready to go a couple of years ago wasn't it? Will it ever get it's Blu-Ray release and will it include the shorts that were initially left out due to racism concerns?

That's too bad because Superman TAS OST was amazing as was JL.

sounds like the porky pig 101 set had a lot of issues, will future releases get a better treatment now that they know there's demand? whataboutthad.com/2017/09/22/the-death-of-looney-tunes-on-home-video/

you tell your owners they better not do Iron Giant 2 unless it's hella good

Stop plastering new logos over the old ones you cocksuckers.

What's the next cartoon series to get a box set? Namely 90s and older.

Still not as good as TT, though. I mean, does even Batman TAS have any track that tops this?
youtube.com/watch?v=xlqLzMqxADQ

No idea at this point.
Nothing is set for a release date but the ones from Avery, Clampett and Jones have been hinted to show up their respected sets.
No, if we produced it we have the masters.
Thank you, it outsold Batman and Harley Quinn and Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory if you want a hint about how much it sold, and thats just for a DVD-R release.
Just about, as for a revival date, some time in 2018 at the very least, we are already remastering cartoons for 2018 now as we speak.
So far from what I can tell thats the plain, as for Tom & Jerry that will be Warner Archive only as the plain for retail is a complete Tom & Jerry collection (even including those direct to video movies, the actual movie and related TV shows) which does include the 2 missing shorts.
>Will future releases get a better treatment?
Yes, very much so, that is why we are making a enchanted Porky Pig set that fixes all of the issues Porky Pig 101 had, we are also including the color Porky Pig shorts in that set as well.
