Seriously, that's the most badass Man-Thing shot yet, and everything about that cover is fucking awesome. I would hang that on my wall.

>Taste the chain I said, again and again... long after he was capable of tasting anything

WHO'S NEXT

shit keeps a happening

hi thread!

Who has a van so we can have it airbrushed onto the side

This is up there in the pantheon of "Frank punches the cuddly polar bear"

>that's the most badass Man-Thing shot yet

We're going to top it this thread, I believe it's the next issue I'm thinking of.

Also a new gem from JohnByrneSays, he hates libraries for being a form of piracy

twitter.com/JohnByrneSays/status/930472857255141376

Hello, Storyteller.

So Berganza has finally been fired. Good riddance to old rubbish. Not only is he a shit person, but a shit editor.

Though the situation still ain't great, as this only happened just now, when he should've been booted ages ago. The industry is way too insular, and the result is companies trading personnel like cards, and legitimately awful people are not properly punished for criminal behavior. It's pathetic.

The cool, cool, crime of Piracy

pretty sure libraries pay for books

This is a take I have seen stupid libertarian types make before.

SO should you wish to undertake it, your (plural you) job is to find me the best, most piping hot, most transparently self-serving "THIS is what DC needs to greenlight content-wise to make it up to us for Eddie Berganza" comments.

Probably something Poison Ivy related

I've seen several people who will apparently not be pleased at all until DC invents time travel so they can go back and fire him sooner

Yeah, it's weird because on the one hand outsiders with 'clearly what DC need to do now is exactly what I say' vs. actual staff 'I always hated it and now we can move on gracefully'

Neither is really right or appropriate.

I see them hiring more women for the Superman office, but they already so have a woman editing Superwoman and a woman writing it, so I'm not sure how effective the "keep women away from him/look at all the talent that stayed away" arguments are.

Poison Ivy joins the JL and leads the Birds of Prey, runs feminist nature retreats and leads eco activism rallies in her spare time

apparently that mini had a sence where Ivy took out a work harasser that was about berganza

I have at least some sympathy for the actual staff who had the "I hated it but what can I do against a superior when clearly the higher-ups had already decided this situation was okay" thing

I'll be happy to see Harras go for this, though, because his "Are you okay with not editing?" was awful.

>"THIS is what DC needs to greenlight content-wise to make it up to us for Eddie Berganza"

New Gods by Brian Michael Bendis and Jim Lee

I'm trying to think if that would be worse than Byrne or Starlin.

I have to think, maybe a little, that "Richard Rory" is so close to:

youtube.com/watch?v=euuCiSY0qYs

lol

edit: no points for the Helenafan, I'm sure she's already made the argument because she blamed E2 and Dick the Usurper on Eddie

Would it be the first time a Fourth World comic made a Star Wars joke in regards to Darkseid? Because that's a joke Bendis would 100% make.

Oof. I'll pass, thanks. And frankly, I'd be more concerned about DC getting some better policies rather than content. One of their most prominent editors, for years, was a known sexual harasser, and the company only did something about it once it became fashionable to do so. That is unacceptable, and the higher ups seriously need to get their shit together before this debacle reaches witch hunt territory.

Probably.

But is that as bad as making The Source an eldritch abomination that kills everyone because its petty?

I'm guessing that's this

The part where I do hesitate is, writers for Loser City who seem supremely confident aside, without being employment lawyers and seeing a contract we don't know what it took to get him out

I agree that him being promoted, with all that shit in his file, was a stupid fucking decision and people should at minimum make sure that doesn't happen again. But then you get articles like this:

bookriot.com/2017/11/14/harassment-comics/

which got an actualfax callout:

twitter.com/cheryllynneaton/status/930587553866149888

it deserved.

Did not even bother to come to Sup Forums today, I can't even imagine the moviefag shitposting.

OK so yeah, I get it. A job is a job and for most people in comics it is probably your dream job too.

But like, what Khouri put out on his twitter? What he linked from Chris Conroy?

twitter.com/andykhouri/status/930579410721300490

twitter.com/dyfl/status/930581046537547776

It's just messy. The whole insider/industry person vs. outsider complicates it, but making your stand public at this moment isn't great to me. Part of the whole Berganza fuck-up is that the company did fuck-up, and for that reason with some of these people if someone sincerely draws a line here or will forever be pissed off about it I'm sympathetic to that.

There are a lot of people who could have broken this in the detail it was broken this time around at many points.

For the love of Dog God, please no kino in this thread

>without being employment lawyers and seeing a contract we don't know what it took to get him out

hell i remember when this popped up the rumor WAS he had a contract thing where they couldn't fire him.

No, weird retcons take way more work to undo. It took John Byrne and Walt Simonson's runs to reestablish that yes, Darkseid was Orion's father.

What it took this time around was the accusers straight-up going on the record, right? Because I'd *heard* about Eddie long ago, for sure, but no one was willing to name the accuser and no one had the time/resources to obtain the civil suit record--I asked a friend how you'd do it, and it'd take going to the courthouse. Going on record with legitimate journalists and not bloggers was the kicker.

>That’s exciting! He’ll be teaming up with Superman in Action Comics #995, by Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund, and Brett Booth (who once drove fan outrage on twitter towards a female journalist because he didn’t like what she said about a Teen Titans cover).

this is how i find out Booster is getting drawn by fucking brett booth? y u troll me DC

Crazy stuff.

Bendis on New Gods doesn't elicit that much of a horrified reaction from me. They've been through such shit, and stuff that they still haven't recovered from.

yeah i've seen a lot of good talk about how comics journalism isn't real journalism which is what is needed here

>Going on record with legitimate journalists and not bloggers was the kicker.
Johnston seems a bit salty this week, with a passing mention about "Ike" in a tweet, so I think he is upset that the Buzzfeed article called his website a blog

I have been relieved to see a lot of "FFS go to a real journalist who has an institution backing them and knows something about defamation, not a hobbyist blogger. Protect your own ass" going around.

Also some mean/snide but true stuff about how so many people in comics 'journalism' are trying to get into the industry, to which I add, bluntly, "as writers".

At this point I'm just glad they have stuff coming out so DC has a reason to do reprints of the run I actually want to read.

Yeah, I assume so. That and it hitting national news and maybe that was only ever gonna happen with a greater scandal going on around it.

Ah IDK. I'm not on board with these extremely righteous folks who use it as another string in the bow of "what I want is morally correct" but I guess I do think DC needs to eat some crow for this, and if you work there and were aware I don't think coming out with platitudes at this point means much.

Also looks like the Van Sciver brothers are next to come under fire, though as far as I know nobody actually has anything on Ethan except that he's kind of a dick.

I've avoided any and all talk about that shit and have no idea how anyone is reacting, I'm just not looking forward to how comics discussion is going to be nearly impossible for the next two weeks.

Fuck movies

I mostly stopped going to Sup Forums as it began incomprehensible and Sup Forumsonized but I still have a soft spot for the "going to the cinema" stories which have become their whole little ecosystem of absurdity.

e.g. archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/82897308

Yeah, those new trades are very snazzy. A far cry from the original black and white trades.

LOL RICH THE LEECH

IDK, I feel sympathy for "I worked there but couldn't do jack"

I have also heard that people did some serious behind the scenes arm-twisting which wouldn't have worked in public, but I'm not divulging.

Ethan's sure flirted with actual Nazi imagery

I didn't know Noah proposed to people? That's creepy?

I mean Marvel has someone who used to review Marvel comics for io9 about to write a Black Panther spinoff and they had Chris Sims writing X--Men and Deadpool.

Although there have always been people who started off in the fanzine culture who moved up, like Busiek. But I'd bet he never considered himself a comics journalist along the way.

i saw a not subtle subtweet about noah being handsy.

also EVS just seems like a total asshole but like Dan Slott did a livestream so I don't think he's like assaulting people?

Sims did stop writing/talking about recent Marvel stuff once he started writing for them.

fuckig roy thomas started in fanzines too i believe

>while we’re out here: i wouldn’t trust a van sciver in comics, ethan or otherwise. when those hands aren’t doing comics the older one’s gonna give a nazi salute and the younger one’s gonna put them on you at a comic convention and then later try to pressure you into marriage.

love these florida swamp biker gangs

right, there's just a lot of people pitching ~critical~ takes now who are also "buy my indie!" but it's probably always been so

Oh god, Man-thing has a chain! Now even more things will know fear around him!

At some point these accusations (and I don't really want to use that word) are gonna tip back and that's gonna be shitty for everyone except the people who already don't want to believe them. But I hope that's not yet.

Do you think comics can sustain serious journalism? A bit like vidya, it's very dependent on access.

>Fuck movies
Sad to say, this is what happens when one medium is deemed irrelevant by the market. Comics are little more than IP farms now.

Think I'm full of shit? I will remind you that in the comics industry, 20K is considered good numbers. Even video games push more numbers than that. Comics are less respected than video games, and there are STILL people who think games make people into murderers. Ain't nobody give a shit about comics.

... Well, I made myself sad.

To expand, what's fascinating to me are the people who simultaneously long for the Big Two job but who make their names and ground on criticism of/opposition to. Wheeler of CA, Shiach, the Woke King Who Fucks who flits in and out of company work, lots more

>Also looks like the Van Sciver brothers are next to come under fire, though as far as I know nobody actually has anything on Ethan except that he's kind of a dick.
EVS has been under mild fire for a while, what's Noah done?

There was a post I saw not too long ago about Ethan siccing cronies on some guy to harass him online

I remember that EVS harassment stuff and I clicked through and it was pretty clear he'd been doing it

I've lost pretty much all interest in Millar now that he's made his status as a walking IP farm official.

The sequel to the Secret Service mini also swerved hard left into SYNERGY and lost me.

>Do you think comics can sustain serious journalism?

i don't think it's impossible but i'm not big minded enough to see how it'll work. i mean look at entertainment journalism in general

>the Woke King Who Fucks

i dunno who this is but lol

netflix doing comics is pretty wild even if it's only to make shows out of them (which why)

well how are you owls today?

I survived today

He's a douche but to be fair people are attacking him constantly just as he's attacking others. I don't know who started the war. He's just one of those egotistical pseudo-intellectual right-wingers.

People gotta just leave each other alone over political horseshit, nobody fucking cares.

Yeah they were both called out, really surprised EVS didn't start a tweet war since he's usually pretty abrasive.

Noah apparently gropes people and pathetically went after this girl.

Ales Kot

It's because he had this thing about how if HE wrote Steve Rogers, he would 1) punch Nazis 2) FUCK

Ales Kot, I think. Who's working on Bond next year.

i thought Kot. lol. he did have Bucky fuck an alien which I'm always for

twitter.com/ales_kot/status/854491529100111872

Today was one of those days where I just think I'm never gonna be able to piece my life back together to a state where I want to live it

Poor Hanneman impersonation

A Bloodborne comic and he's got a comic with Tradd Morre.

...

I finally got the bike fixed so I can actually exercise again

Kot is one of the only comics people so insufferable I simply couldn't follow them, along with Leth.

Woke King Who Fucks sounds like a really bad Lovecraft porno desu

I'm good. Just got over an allergic fit that lasted all day yesterday.

Also Battlefront 2 is still pay to win whoreshit, so EA lied, which is a HUGE shock, that EA is full of crap. Never saw that coming.

twitter.com/royalboiler/status/908549044955267072

Graham is /ourguy/

Still one of BG's funniest tweets

> Kot

twitter.com/royalboiler/status/908549044955267072

I am so much more lowbrow and mainstream in my comics tastes but I do appreciate his genuinely no fucks given independent nature

Two steps ahead of me OP

Bloodbourne doesn't surprise me, but apparently there's a Little Nightmares comic, and I don't understand why.

Then again, video game comics are just kind of weird in general.

Graham unironically links to dumbass hentai comics, is he really that highbrow?

LOL

He's got this indie thing going on that I guess I sort as a kind of 'alternative high' because it's so indie?

>no fucks given
He eased up in the last year or so. He doesn't want people associated with him to get backlash for his shit talking, since he has pals who do work for Marvel/DC.

Also Eric Stephenson asked him to delete some tweets shit talking JMS' work at Image kek

Fucked up that the Dark Souls comic was such garbage with such great potential in the setting. I bet Kot's Bloodborne one will suck dick too.

I mean shit he bought his PS4 when he moved to Brooklyn to try and find himself.

there's so much in that last sentence to lol about

>Eric Stephenson
Is he too busy to finish Nowhere Men? It's been five years and 11 issues

Speaking of lowbrow and mainstream, Horrocks really, REALLY doesn't like the fact that Doomsday Clock exists and was basically saying everyone who buys it is a consumer drone and is spitting on Moore

Which I suppose is not false but come on man I already know I'm a thickskulled pleb for buying it, you don't gotta throw moral guilt on me too

>Hey asshole, that coffee was hot!

Eh, look on the bright side. It's not the Dead Space comic. EA really wanted Dead Space to be this multimedia powerhouse, but reality disagreed. Idiots.

R.I.P Visceral.

John Byrne truly is human garbage, even without his barely veiled desire to go Roy Moore on the local Junior High.

"Poor people don't deserve to read!" Fucking hell.

All I want is a KFC comic titled DOOMSDAY CLUCK

He's not saying THAT, user. He's just saying libraries teach people to steal.

Apparently there are people who only want to read it to spite Moore? I know there was a quote from him back around Before Watchmen where he said " If you buy Before Watchmen do me a favor and stop reading my work"

Amused to see Horrocks review Citrus tho

... Fuckin' wat.

Man-Things random throw-downs with wildlife are pretty great.

The anecdotes into his personal life, ESPECIALLY his dating life, are both the best and worst parts of John Byrne says.

twitter.com/JamesDRobinson/status/930613899849744384

>Wendy's Girl has tampered with the KFC menu and it's up to the Colonel to save the KFC multiverse

Only if they're getting books on robbery

that's magnificent, I applaud all of those people

and holy shit someone managed to make a Mariah costume that wasn't just body paint

Hugely impressed with their choice of scenery.

I would absolutely be okay with a Smug Wendy comic. Of all the dumb memes of this year, that was the only good one.

I know no kino but on the non-cape front has anyone in this thread watched the Blade of the Immortal movie yet?

No but I want to

...
