If Lars was able to go to the most hated character to one of the most loved, so can Lapis. I have faith in the crew when it comes to redemption arcs. Peridot's and Lars' were both solid as fuck
There's been like, a handful of barn episodes, but you guys make it sound like every second episode was a boring Lapis barn episode. I don't wish that was all rewritten, because in retrospect it fits - she hid from her problems and taking responsibility for them, just like she's done every time she flies away.
She occupied herself with TV and napping and generally escaping from the world, being lazy and never making any effort to change, and I think anyone whose ever dealt with being a depressed piece of shit can relate to that.
The whole point is that she's been coddled, and that her friend expended all her energy for the sake of her feelings. This is pretty blatantly explained in RTB. And a major theme of SU is relationships, and that's just not how a good relationship works. I dunno what to tell you if you really think the show is just, not going to solve or even address a problem it deliberately set up.
So what are the bets on what's gonna happen to Lars this season? >Makes it back to Earth >Gets stranded on alien planet >Decides to keep being a space pirate and doesn't even drop by Earth to visit

Do you all remember, when Steven and Connie first met? In that episode, Steven is trying to work out his introduction. You remember what he was muttering? "Hi, my name is Steven. Hi, my name is Steeeevan. Hi, my name is, Stevin?" Foreshadowing for a Steven X Kevin fusion all the way back then perhaps?
Think about it, Connie's life is on the line, and maybe a lot of people are trapped under something or cornered by a corruption, including Sabina, and then Steven sees Kevin, and Kevin is freaking out because his ex/rejected crush is trapped and he wants to help to prove himself and can't, and then Steven runs up to Kevin and says "C'mon Kevin, we have to help them, we have to save them, together!" It'd give us another Steven X human fusion, which would answer some questions, and it might bring Kevin around more often.

they were working on writing season 5 as early as late 2015, and from what i can tell, the season split thing was sudden to even the writers. that happened in late march, so they probably had a good portion of season 5 done.
whether the likely season 6+7, or an even further down the line 8+9 will have that same formula is unknown, but i hope they will.

Any of these would make for a good spinoff. I'd say was right too, but a genderswapping spinoff would be too predictable if they didn't change more than just the genders, there would have to be story changes too or it'd get boring.
