Well even if this will never be canon the fact is that Lapiven and Stevidot was shipped for two different people in the crew and they were preferred by these guys which was very important in the creative group.
Sugar probably had a preference for Lapis since that she is Flame Princess and Sugar wanted make of her the canon endgame for Finn. Writers recicle their ideas when they are incapable of show them in older works for external reasons, in that way the public can see the ideas that the writer wanted show them originally. (Just like Ian and KO)
Ian at the other side is clearly shipped Stevidot and he wanted make of her Steven's endgame. How we can see in KO that Dendy is recicled version of Peridot and Ian wants that we notice it. That's because Steven said "I love you Peridot" and since Mr Greg is Ian's favorite episode he probably used the "Colors Palett" as subliminal message to clarify the real ships of this show or his favorites (just like Zuke put subliminal message with Camp Pining Hearts), that's because Pearl is blue and Greg is Yellow colors that are oppose in the palett just like Green is oppose to Pink.
